Kotonosato 1 Posted June 6, 2007 Which Basho was won the most times by a non-Japanese??? (all gaijin winners combined) I don't remember exactly, but maybe it was in 2005 or early 2006. I seem to remember that every division was won by a foreigner except one.
Bealzbob 0 Posted June 6, 2007 .. and by quite a distance too. an addition to the above question. Which basho was the LAST one to be won by a gaijin rikishi, who won it and when ?
Bealzbob 0 Posted June 6, 2007 (edited) Kotonosato, I interpreted the question differently. I took it to mean which of the Jan/Mar/May/Jul/Sep/Nov basho's over history have been won the most times by a foreigner? For example, Hatsu over the years has only had 6 foreign winners. I guess I misinterpreted the question. Anyway, can someone tell me which basho I was thinking of? I'm pretty sure that there was a basho about a year or two ago where every division except one was won by a foreigner. Can sombody check that?
Bealzbob 0 Posted June 6, 2007 Nagoya '04. 4 of the 6 winners were foreign (M-Asashoryu, Jy-Kotooshu, Sn-Kokuryu & Jk-Baruto). Toyonokuni & Shiraishi won the others. Haru '04. 4 of the 6 were foreign too. This time Asashoryu, Hakuho, Kotooshu & Minaminoshima (Tongan) won the 4 top divisions with Keno & Onishi winning the bottom 2. There aren't any from 2004 onwards with 5 foreign winners.
