If Onosato gets another promotion, I'd expect Terunofuji to go for retirement. Which could be early next year.

Off topic, but I wonder if they'd wheel out Terunofuji for Onosato's potential tsuna run? It's not compulsory, but for the sake of continuity and so on.

I was about to say that won't Terunofuji also have a "yokozuna stock" but then I remembered that was abolished together with Hakuho's case, if I remember correctly. So he'd still need one.

Terunofuji as yokozuna can stay for 5 years without kabu, only the ichidai toshiyori special myoseki was abolished. He'd need a kabu to switch with Isegahama, if he wants to take over the heya. Else he has to wait with retirement till Asahifuji reaches age 65 and becomes consultant for 5 years - then he could get the kabu when Asahifuji has to leave at age 70.

That's still in four months at best, there'd be no need to vacate the kabu right away.

I believe it'll be at least six-eight months, because hatsu yusho celebrations are likely the reason Onosato blotted his otherwise immaculate double-digit KK record.
He's now got yusho and ozeki promotion double celebrations to eat into his training.

For some reason the Kyokai's oyakata duties page still hasn't been updated with the three newly minted oyakata, while the simple members listing was already refreshed at least a week ago. I'm only mentioning that because, in addition to Takakeisho (with special iin taigu toshiyori positioning as customary for recently retired Y/O), Myogiryu and Aoiyama getting added, the update also changed the position of Onoe-oyakata (ex-Hamanoshima) in the list; by analogy to the duties list order it would appear that he has taken up a role in the jungyo department. He previously only held the default assignment to the guidance department that all stablemasters have.

I'm not entirely sure if anybody else has left the jungyo team in turn.

The update finally came in today, backdated all the way to September 24, Tuesday after senshuraku when Myogiryu and Aoiyama retired. The aforementioned addition of Onoe to the jungyo department is now confirmed.

Other belated news:

  • Magaki (ex-Ishiura) is now also part of the jungyo group.
  • Mihogaseki (ex-Tochisakae), already a member of the Fukuoka basho team, is now also listed as part of the Nagoya team. (I don't recall seeing anything like that before.) All three regional basho departments now have four regular members in addition to each respective department director.
  • Minatogawa (ex-Takakeisho), iin taigu-ranked as expected, as well as Furiwake (ex-Myogiryu) and Iwatomo (ex-Aoiyama) have all been given a generic assignment to the guidance department plus membership in the social contributions group for now.

And I forgot to mention it earlier - in case there was any lingering doubt that ex-Hochiyama might have upgraded from borrower to owner in his switch to the Tatsutagawa share back in May, that possibility was eliminated by the toshiyorifying of Myogiryu and Aoiyama, who have both been added above him in the list. Tatsutagawa remains the most senior of six toshiyori on loan (down from seven after the recent departure of ex-Asahisho who had to vacate Furiwake).

And we might as well mention it here for posterity: Hidenoyama (ex-Kotoshogiku) branched off from Sadogatake-beya officially on October 19 (forum discussion, official notice); there are 45 heya now.
