Anyway, does that suggest that Nakagawa is in Isegahama ichimon then, filling the spot held by Kiriyama and Kasugayama?

An interesting question indeed... We'll never get an official answer to that, are we. (Laughing...)

Elsewhere, I notice that Nakadachi-oyakata (former Komusubi Oginishiki) is part of the lifestyle guidance department, having previously been a member of the Haru basho organising team. Maybe he's being prepped to replace Kagamiyama as director of that department at some point? All the other members are the over-65 re-employed oyakata. Not sure exactly when that change was made but I guess after the Haru basho - Nakagawa was also on that team, so perhaps effective at the same time as his move to shimpan.

My tracking page no longer has copies going back that far, so all I can say is that the Oginishiki move must have happened no later than the end of Natsu basho (the oldest update I have access to was from May 28). I'll be able to say more about the timing of Nakagawa's move once I've finished my digging into the separate shimpan data.

Edit: Spoke too soon - I forgot I can still view the summaries of older changes. The Oginishiki change was announced around May 14, so for the start of Natsu basho. Nakagawa's was at the same time. It looks like Shiratama (ex-Kototsubaki) and Ikazuchi (ex-Kakizoe) are their replacements in the Osaka team, Ikazuchi has left his jungyo duties for it.

Takekuma-oyakata, who turns 65 in September, has already applied to get reemployed till age 70.

Just to have it updated here, Takekuma (former Maegashira Zaonishiki) celebrated his 65th birthday on September 3rd and is now into his extra five years as a consultant. His (then impending) retirement was marked at Tokitsukaze-beya's senshuraku party after the Nagoya basho.

Oyama-oyakata (former Maegashira Daihi) turns 65 on October 16th, according to Azumazeki's okamisan he will also be staying on for the extra five years. He also received flowers at the heya's senshuraku party after the Aki basho.

Nishiiwa Oyakata, ex-Wakanosato , will leave Tagonoura beya to open his own heya-Nishiiwa beya, taking with him 2 deshi-Wakasatake and Wakanoguchi, both lower Jonidan. Now there are 46 heyas. "I shall train them using the old Naruto and the old Futagoyama's system, mixed with my own ideas.." he said. This starts on February 1st, 2018.

Don't really know a better place to put it without opening a new thread, so here it goes - the usual mid-November rijikai meeting to confirm the salaries for next year didn't happen this time, or did I just miss the news?

And here we go- Shikoroyama Oyakata has left Tokitsukaze Ichimon together with Minato Oyakata and Tatsutagawa (ex- Houmashou). They will not be affiliated to any Ichimon for now, but will be backing Takanohana during the coming elections.

Yes, I do. Ex-Akinoshima is Takanohana's nemesis.

35-year-old Shotenro (Mongolia, Fujishima-beya), former 25-basho makuuchi participant and career-high maegashira 2, has decided to end his active career, and today's board of directors meeting confirmed that he will be staying in the Kyokai as Kasugayama-oyakata.

Listed as a loan by the Kyokai. Who's the owner of the share now, anyway?

I was wondering about this. This is the one where the owner didn't have possession of the certificate and a protracted court case? How did it come back into circulation so quickly?

Pulling together the Harumafuji incident-related job changes, now that the Kyokai has finally updated the duties list after Takanohana's demotion has become official:

On 21.12.2017 at 01:51, Asashosakari said:

Isegahama meanwhile has been moved to the fairly meaningless role as deputy chairman of the competition inspection committee, joining Takasago who's already deputy of that same group.

Takanohana was demoted from jungyo chief (No.3) to Deputy Director for Diffusion of Leadership (No.13).

FWIW, Takanohana's new post is just as meaningless as Isegahama's. Taka is joining Michinoku as a second leadership deputy here.

And they appear to have named official replacements for their previous duties after all: Replacing Isegahama as head of the Osaka basho department is Kagamiyama, while Takanohana's jungyo chief job has been assigned to Kasugano who already was his interim replacement in the winter tour.

In other news:

And in the other Rijikai decision today, thirteen oyakata have been appointed to the newly-created social contribution department (社会貢献部), which will be involved in responding to emergencies, disaster relief, fundraising for charitable donations and so on. This is a formal follow-on from the Dosukoi Volunteer Team which helped to raise funds and visited affected areas following the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami of 2011.

Standing from left: Mihogaseki (Tochisakae), Shiranui (Wakakoyu), Kiyomigata (Bushuyama), Araiso (Tamaasuka), Onogawa (Daido), Sanoyama (Tosayutaka).

Seated from left: Iwatomo (Kimurayama), Hanaregoma (Tamanoshima), Takenawa (Tochinonada), Furiwake (Takamisakari), Sekinoto (Iwakiyama).

Two other members not in the picture are Hatachiyama (Tochinohana) and Takasaki (Kinkaiyama).

On 27.1.2017 at 22:46, Yubinhaad said:

One correction to the post about that new department: Kimigahama-oyakata (former Maegashira Hochiyama) has also joined it, so there are 14 members, not 13. The Kyokai simply didn't mention him when they posted the above picture. Sorry for the confusion.

Kasugayama (ex-Shotenro) has now also been added to this department. As was Nakamura (ex-Sadanofuji) at some point after his retirement in May, which hadn't been noted here in the thread before, so they're up to 16 members now.

Kitataiki has retired and is now Onogawa-oyakata - a Kitanoumi kabu, so I guess he owns it now. The so far Onogawa (Daido) changes to Otowayama and like demanded by Takanohana, ex-Kobo, who had it on loan, leaves the NSK http://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2018/01/13/kiji/20180113s00005000136000c.html

Official changes per January 13:

Both Daido and Kitataiki are listed as owning their new myoseki, for Daido this is a change from holding Onogawa on loan before. Kitataiki has also immediately been added to the social contributions department, so that's 17 members now.

In addition they've changed Shotenro's full oyakata name from 春日山 大士 to 春日山 翔. (Kasugayama Shō, I guess, as in his naturalized legal name, but there's no reading listed.) Not sure if that is an actual change or an error fix...I'd go with fix, I think.
