madorosumaru 7 Posted April 27, 2007 Former Komusubi and current maegashira 13, Tochinohana (34) announced his impending marriage to Masami Tsukinaga (32), a former flight attendant. The couple received the blessing of both families last December and will register the marriage in the near future. The wedding reception will be held in Tokyo on September 1. Tochi met his future wife eight years ago and started a relationship soon after. He told the press that Masami was a source of strength during the difficult times when he fell all the way to makushita due to injuries. He decided it was the right time to get married after he obtained the Hatachiyama kabu last September. As for the bride, she said she was attracted to Tochi, who is "a kind and genuine person." They want to have a baby right away so that the child can have the opportunity to see Tochi still active on the dohyo. To quote Masami: "We want to establish a warm [traditional] family environment where the husband is the one in charge." Picture of Masami secure in the arms of her man. kaiguma 0 Posted April 28, 2007 Dayuuuuum what the hell is it with all these Sumotori and thier ugly ass wives? You'd think with how these guys are all professional athletes making good bank and sh-t that they could meet at least a decent lookin female, (Shaking head...) ! I've got to object to that. For one, your image of the ideal female is very superficial in typical American fashion. How do you think she should look, like Jessica Simpson, or Hakuho's wife? Not everyone wants a woman who looks like a beauty queen. And his new fiancee is certainly not a dog! For a 30-some year old lady she is kinda cute. I remember you were recently praising the young Russian amasumo cheerleaders and I was thinking "Why?" Those girls were not attractive at all . . . just showing a little skin and you're happy? I know, I know different strokes and all, but you could at least stop short of calling a resonably attractive lady "ugly-ass" anything. My 2 yen anyway. The happy couple were introduced by a friend two years ago during Osaka Basho. Ushiomaru said of his future wife: "She is a great cook. What I really like is how she has everything together." As for Mami, she said, "I was attracted to him because he is kind while being strong at heart. We plan to have 3 or 4 kids." The ceremony is scheduled to be held in Tokyo after Aki Basho on September 29.

To quote Masami: "We want to establish a warm [traditional] family environment where the husband is the one in charge." Despite "cold feet" caused by unkind remarks by a forumer and a desperate last-minute search for the "perfect woman" in the Great Lakes area, the wedding ceremony for Tochinohana and his "unlovely" bride, Masami, was held as scheduled on Sept. 1 in Tokyo. The event was attended by approximately 530 people including Kitanoumi Rijicho and the mayor of Tochi's hometown. The mayor said in his speech, "The merger of towns and cities are successful if both parties respect each other. It is the same with human relationships." The Rijicho led the "Breaking the Cask" of the renowned Iwate sake. When the couple, who had an eight-year courtship, held hands and jointly cut the wedding cake, the assembled guests broke into sustained applause. An emotional Tochi said, "I am deeply moved by all the people who came to celebrate with me. I would like to do well in Aki Basho and make my bride happy." His fiancee is Megumi Yoshimura, also 29, a former temporary office worker from Fukuoka. They met ten years ago during Kyushu Basho and started their relationship. They plan to file marriage papers on November 23, during Kyushu Basho, which happens to be the anniversary of the start of thier courtship. The formal marriage ceremony will be held on February 9 of next year. Torideyama 30 Posted September 26, 2007 They met ten years ago during Kyushu Basho and started their relationship. 10 years? Wow! madorosumaru 7 Posted December 14, 2007 Iwakiyama is getting married. The prospective bride is Mariko Kato (22) from Aichi Prefecture. The couple will file the paperwork before year end and have the ceremony on April 27 next year. Mariko is a big fan of Iwaki and they met three years ago during picture taking. When asked what he liked about her, the big rock of a man got red in the face and said, "She has good presence of mind and also very nice manners." As for the young lady, she said that she wanted to maintain a family environment where he could relax when he comes home from a hard day. Here is Iwaki doing the traditional "Ohimesama Dakko." madorosumaru 7 Posted December 18, 2007 way to go Iwakiyama, he is marrying up! Reactions from his dad upon hearing the news: "I am not surprised as much as I am relieved [that he found someone]." "When I first saw Mariko-san, I thought she was much too beautiful for my son," said the much too honest Mr. Tsushima. "It was like something out of the 'Beauty and the Beast.'" "I understand that everyone in Mariko-san's family is a fan of my son," he continued. "That makes me very happy." Next week Iwaki and his folks will head to Aichi to meet Mariko's family to exchange betrothal gifts. His dad concluded by saying, "[sumo] is a unique world unto its own and I am sure the two will face many obstacles, but I want them to gambarize and support each other. And, if possible, I would like to see a grandchild real soon." The calm and collected beauty with her blushing beast. The happy couple first met in 2004 at a benefit sumo tournament in Tokyo. Mariko, who loved sumo since she was a little girl, went up and asked Iwaki to have a picture taken together. They started corresponding when she sent him a copy of the picture with a fan letter. Soon their relationship developed into having dinner dates. Before Natsu Basho this year, Iwaki was not well physically. When he informed Mariko about his condition, she rushed to Tokyo to nurse him back to health. At that point, Iwaki realized that she was the one for him. He decided that if did KK in Nagoya, he would proposed to her. Not only did he achieve that goal, he went 12-3 and won juryo yusho by beating Goeido and Tenho in ketteisen.
