madorosumaru 7 Posted September 29, 2010 (edited) Haruma doing the traditional ohimesama-dakko routine. Harumafuji officially presented his fiancee at a press conference. He said they were introduced by his mother last December and he proposed to her prior to Natsu Basho. The ozeki made those in attendance laugh when he joked that Asashoryu, who learned the lesson the hard way, gave him the following advice: "Be home early and don't drink too much." madorosumaru 7 Posted January 22, 2011 (edited) Two Mongolian makuuchi rikishi are holding wedding receptions after Hatsu Basho. Happily, both Mokonami and Koryu won their matches on Day 14 for kachi-koshi. Moko, who is having his celebration on Jan. 29, forced out the defenseless Kokkai. He had been teased by those around him: "If you end up make-koshi, you better cancel the reception." "Whew," The Fierce Tiger sighed. "Now, I feel relieved." His bud Koryu's reception is on the following day. Not to be upstaged, he pushed out Toyohibiki for his KK. He was all smiles, too. "There would have been a huge difference between winning and losing," clearly pleased with how things are turning out. Both rikishi have been married for a while and each has a daughter. It's just that they are finally having the receptions. Moko's wife's name is Otgongerel and she is older--a fairly common situation for rikishi. Koryu's wife's name is Odgerel. The names are very similar when transliterated to Japanese--オットゲレル and オドゲレル. Edited January 23, 2011 by madorosumaru

Kintamayama 44,987 Posted January 29, 2011 (edited) Mongolian Moukonami had his wedding ceremony at the world-famous Tokyo Metropolitan hotel today. 240 guests including Yokozuna Hakuhou. He was married 4 years ago when his daughter was born, but only got around to having the reception today. "I have been dreaming of the arrival of this great day for a long time.. I am filled with happiness!" said a slightly tipsy Moukonami. "I would like to respond to all those that have been encouraging me by aiming higher," he added. Kintamayama 44,987 Posted February 6, 2011 (edited) Amidst all the balagan, Toyonoshima got married to his singer girlfriend Sunaho yesterday. The party will be on June 11th at that hotel. He asked her out last July, but she said he has to get double-digit wins and a sansho before she agrees. He got an 8-7 in July, a 7-8 in September and he eventually went 11-4 with a sansho and they started dating. (The gambling stuff and how she coped with it are not mentioned) Edited February 6, 2011 by Kintamayama

madorosumaru 7 Posted September 12, 2011 It has been disclosed that maegashira Shotenro is married to Kyokutenho's younger sister, Hishigsuren Nyamjav. The 29-year-old rikishi and his 34-year-old bride began their relationship two years ago and registered the marriage after July's Nagoya Basho. By Kyokai regulation, the two brothers-in-law will be prohibited from facing each other in regularly scheduled honbasho bouts. The exception would be a yusho ketteisen. madorosumaru 7 Posted September 12, 2011 The ceremony was supposed to be held on June 11th but was postponed because of the yaocho scandal. New date-October 2nd. We are not invited but will be there in spirit. Instead of a wedding ceremony, an engagement gift exchange ceremony was held on June 11 at a shrine in Takaoka City, hometown of Sunaho-san. In front of both sets of parents, Toyonoshima was like a shy adolescent boy. "I was so nervous . . . and happy . . . that I just couldn't stop smiling," he told the local reporter. "I kept telling myself, 'What a lovely girl she is.'" The prospective bride was equally in a daze: "There were lots of people there, but all I could see was the Sekitori." Kintamayama 44,987 Posted September 26, 2011 (edited) This time it's Takanoyama. He will be marrying a "domestic helper", 32 year old Noguchi-san. He proposed to her after senshuraku after receiving permission from Naruto Oyakata and they will soon be registered to marry. He has been going out with her for eight years. Now for the kicker- their daughter was born in May and is called Maya. "I will rise on the Banzuke more and more and gambarize," he said. Papanoyama. Kokkai's wife was at the Kokugika on senshuraku. She was astonished that there is more than Juryo and Makuuchi, she couldn't believe that there are so many sumo wrestlers and 4 other leagues.
