Another Sekitori Marriage

Recommended Posts

Kotooushuu will be married at the New Otani hotel (hmm.. , the usual "Inner City Hotel" owners will be very angry..) on February 14th, Valentine's Day, how romantic. He has invited Japan Champions (baseball) Yomiuri giants' manager Hara to the wedding. They have been friendly lately (Meiji supports them both) ,and Osh even sent him some choice Bulgarian wine after the championships. It is a big honor for Osh if the manager will attend, says the reporter.

Any idea what is the status of "the registering" of their marriage? Is it done already, or it will happen at the day of the ceremony?

I doubt that there will be any kind of church activity involved - so therefore I count that date of the registering as the real wedding date.

Osh's marriage was registered on May 30 so he has been officially married for over half a year. It is the wedding reception banquet that is going to be held on February 14. That's how things work in Japan.

When Osh went home to Bulgaria with his bride after Nagoya Basho, they had a mini wedding with his family. According to an article at that time, there are plans for a more elaborate church wedding on his next trip home.

In Japan, the magnitude of a wedding banquet is determined by the stature of the guests. Since Mr. Hara is the manager of both the current Japan Series champions, Giants, and the reigning World Baseball Classic champion, Samurai Japan, he is on the very top of the sports A List. Having him attend would be a major social coup for Osh and his bride. Mr. Hara would be extremely busy since February falls right in middle of baseball spring training, he is a man known for social obligations so there is a good chance for him to make a quick flight from from Miyazaki for a toast to the young couple. I am sure Meiji Dairies, sponsor for both, would make it worth his while. (Sign of approval...)

Robo finally has a girlfriend!!! After 33 years without a girl, Takamisakari has found someone to love.

Minami Matsuzaka, a 25-year-old model, was seen at the KK cheering Robocop on. Sakari, of course, denied a relationship but the girl was more forthcoming. When pressed by the reporter, she replied, "I think very highly of Seiken-san. Before the basho, he gave me some tickets and said, 'Please come and cheer for me.' So, I am here with three of my friends."

According to the media, the tell-tale sign is that she called him "Seiken-san" instead of the normal "Takamisakari-zeki" or "Sekitori." A young woman calling a member of the opposite sex by his first name in public reveals a lot in Japan.

Minami and her friends had masu seats right above the hanamichi. Reporters had noticed something strange when Sakari, who usually walks off his head held high after a victory, lowered his eyes as he approached the area where she sat. "Hey, I'm fighting for my life out there [on the dohyo]," he protested. "I don't have time for this nonsense."

But, in reality, he was caught by the media on a date with Minami-san late in December. He also denied a relationship at that time, saying, "What's wrong with having dinner with a friend?" However, a weekly even came out with an item about him asking her to move in with him. When the press inquired about that at the KK, the young lady hesitated for a moment but then replied shyly, "Yes, he did."

Jesse, the former Azumazeki Oyakata, knows about the couple and had told his deshi, "Look, you are going to be 34 this year. It's about time you got married."

Here is a picture of her at the KK. But you can google for more photos. She is very, very "gifted."

To which he replied: "I am not yet a rooden wooster."

Caught on a date, hum?...acidentally, they ran into the same restaurant, with a camera going... (Sign of disapproval...)

Good luck for the young couple! (In love...)

And may the press leave them alone...

As Sumo Forum members know, there are "Closet Gaijin" in Ozumo. Apparently, there are "Closet Sekitori Marriages" too.

It was revealed yesterday that Mongolian Hakuba has been married since October 2008. In fact, he and his 25-year-old wife, who is also from Mongolia, have a daughter born in November of that year. He told the media it was for his wife and child that he dedicated his first kachi-koshi ever in makuuchi.

Good things have been happening to Hakuba. As it had been reported elsewhere in the Forum, a personal koenkai was started last October by a town in Nagano with the same name. Yesterday, a group of ten Hakuba residents visited Kokugikan to cheer for their "favorite son." "I heard them yelling my name and I saw the large banner with 'Go Hakuba!' on it," said the happy rikishi.

The leader of the delegation was the koenkai president, Mr. Ikeda, who said, "We have a special bond in sharing the same name. We would like him to do well and be a goodwill ambassador for our town."

Well, unless I've fallen for an urban legend he did once blurt out in response to the question of which girls he likes, "girls with big [gifts]!"

Even without his glasses, he should have no trouble finding those. I wouldn't have thought Robo for the mate of an AV "model".

Well he is a keen reader of the sports tabloids, where one normally finds images of such talented young ladies. The last time I was at Azumazeki stable, he spent an inordinate amount of time sitting in the genkan, scanning the red-tops and mumbling to himself as he did it.

Truly a one-of-a-kind.

Kotooushuu will be married at the New Otani hotel on February 14th, Valentine's Day.

But will Asashouryuu attend? "He confirmed his participation when he was still active, but now, I really don't know.. He's in Hawaii right now, so I guess he won't be coming.. I am stumped..", said a befuddled Osh. To be on the safe side , he erased Asa's name from the program-Asa was supposed to break the traditional sake cask (how befitting??) at the ceremony.

A Mongolian friend of mine who is journalist told me that Asa was supposed to go back to Mongolia tomorrow for Tsagaan Sar (New Year), spend two days there and then fly to Vancouver to support the two Mongolian athletes.

The ceremony was held today. 600 guests, including Osh's parents and Hakuhou. A letter from the Bulgarian president was read out as well. Seeing his bride in her wedding dress, he said: "Everything is beautiful, see for yourselves. Magnificent!". "Now that I'm married, I have no choice but to aim higher.. I will concentrate on my keiko!", he declared. He went on to say "When I retire, my dream is to become an Oyakata.", hinting that he intends to acquire Japanese citizenship.

Ushiomaru said of his future wife: "She is a great cook. What I really like is how she has everything together." As for Mami, she said, "I was attracted to him because he is kind while being strong at heart. We plan to have 3 or 4 kids."

That is what I like to hear from a soon-to-be newlywed, "We plan to have 3 or 4 kids."

You go girl!

Asako has changed 3 traditional Japanese dresses + 1 white one in the end. Kotooshu has remained with his kimono - too bad I couldn't find pictures of him dancing horo with that... Must have been funny sight.

With the cake - seems like falling down:

By the way, one Bulgarian sports site mentions that there will be also a wedding ceremony in Bulgaria. Not announced when.

Ryu's advice: "If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life, never make a pretty woman your wife. A pretty woman makes her husband look small and that, Li'l Bro, causes a man's downfall."

My grandfather once gave me similar advice: "Get an ugly woman. They don't leave."

He was a classy fellow.
