Midorifuji has gotten married. The bride is Chihiro, 23, the daughter of an Isegahama beya's koenkai member. The two first met when she was 17, but only were casual acquaintances.  They met again a couple of years ago, and soon after began a relationship. They got engaged in March of last year, a mere three months after they began dating, and welcomed a newborn daughter into the world last October (presumably the reason for the quick engagement). 

"Speed sumo," joked Midorifuji about the quickness of the relationship's progression.

Hokutofuji and his wife Mami (?) finally had their wedding ceremony & reception today at a Tokyo Hotel. They registered the marriage in 2020 but had to wait 4 years. 600 people attended including master Hakkaku.

After the marriage  January 2020 they intended to have the ceremony in June, but Corona stopped that. In March 2021 their first son was born. Hokutofuji (31) after the torikumi could go to the hospital then, because the Haru basho took place in Tokyo. And because there was no jungyo, he could be with his wife Manami (35) at the time when childcare was hard.

No jungyo after Hatsu - the time is used for weddings. Today also Chiyoshoma (32) and his wife Enkhmurun Börte (guess from エンフムルン・ブルテ) (33) had the Corona delayed ceremony and reception - 5 years after the marriage, with about 500 guests, among them the oyakata, the former Kokonoe okamisan and the family of Chiyoshoma.

She graduated from Mongolian state university and then came to Japan for language studies, where the 2 met in Aug. 2014, as he was in makushita - he tells it was love at first sight, they exchanged contact addresses at once. Kotoeko and his wife Yukari had their wedding reception today - he really kept everything secret so far. Her brother was acquainted with Kotoshogiku and she loosely with Kotoeko's tsukebito. It took quite long for Hokutofuji to get the hint! She's a champ for patiently going to see the show so many times

I used to work event staff for a hotel in Japan, and if the bride was pregnant then yes they substituted with a non-alcoholic drink

 I was puzzled to see Naruto Oyakata there, but checked and saw that they were in Sadogatake at the same time (Kotoeko making his first attempt at Juryo run when Kotooshu retired).

More puzzing is that Kotoshogiku doesnt appear in this picture (maybe he got there later), but they shared even more time together in the heya

I'm almost positive I've read somewhere that the show cake and the cake served to guests aren't usually the same.

The cake she's feeding him in the earlier pic has berries on it, which the big show cake doesn't.

I don't know what the procedure is in Japan -- since the whole wedding cake thing is a Western theme, it's probably the same as in the U.S.  The big display cake is a dummy or faux cake.  It's decorated, but the foundation is usually styrofoam.  Sometimes the bottom (or top) layer is a real cake so they can do the cutting.  Often, the whole display cake is fake, and the staff has a sheet cake in the back that is cut up and served to the guests.

Imagine the chance of that tall cake falling over or collapsing!  Also, imagine how tall a piece of cake from the bottom tier would be.

With the new banzuke as new makuuchi also the marriage of Tokihayate was announced - by himself. Shiori is 26, 1 year younger than him, care worker from Nagasaki pref.
