madorosumaru 7 Posted April 25, 2008 As you have read elsewhere in the forum, Kotokasuga, who required 91 basho to reach makuuchi, announced at the press conference that he is also getting married. His fiancee is Eri Yamagami (30), who was his classmate in elementary school. She had moved away when they were in the sixth grade and the two had lost contact with each other until fate brought them back together two years ago. At a dinner hosted by a mutual friend in Osaka, they discovered that they were from the same hometown. A few queries later, she blurted out, "Are you that terrible Keigo that used to pull my braids?" His surprised response was "And you are that funny-looking girl named Yamagami?" That chance encounter got their relationship started anew. At that time, Kotokasuga was in makushita. But with a new incentive, he embarked on a kachi-koshi streak that resulted in his becoming the second slowest promotee to makuuchi after Hoshiiwato and his 115 basho. "She was the Madonna of our class," he told the gathered media, fearing for his life if he told the truth. "I proposed to her that November, but my own father told me he wouldn't allow the wedding until I made makuuchi. Now, we can finally be together." It has been a tough 15 years since he joined sumo. Ozeki Kotooshu and Kotomitsuki are his juniors at the heya. He had contemplated intai numerous times when his career was stymied by bad elbows. "Once I met her again, sumo has become more enjoyable. I am really glad I didn't quit." Such is the strength a woman can give to a man. As for Eri-san, she said, "I respect the sekitori from the bottom of my heart." The couple will register their marriage on May 2. The wedding ceremony and reception are scheduled to be held at a hotel in Tokyo in September.

higginbotham 0 Posted April 26, 2008 After some "yoyoing" following his makushita Yusho, Kotoyutaka finally started winning again in July past and has his best chance so far to become a sekitori. Maybe there is something in Sadogatake. :-)

Asashosakari 18,786 Posted April 27, 2008 Iwakiyama is getting married. The prospective bride is Mariko Kato (22) from Aichi Prefecture. The couple will file the paperwork before year end and have the ceremony on April 27 next year. The ceremony was held today, as usual at a Tokyo-area hotel. madorosumaru 7 Posted April 30, 2008 Iwakiyama is getting married. The prospective bride is Mariko Kato (22) from Aichi Prefecture. The couple will file the paperwork before year end and have the ceremony on April 27 next year. The ceremony was held today, as usual at a Tokyo-area hotel. Around 460 people were in attendance, including Chiyotaikai, rijicho Kitanoumi and former yokozuna Wajima. The ceremony was held at the Sheraton Miyako Hotel in Minato-ku, Tokyo. "The Rock" was nervous as he never had been before. He could only muster a frozen smile as the Rijicho, Kyokai officials, oyakata and koenkai dignitaries filed by him and his lovely bride Mariko in the greeting line. Only when his ichimon buddies Dejima, Miya-babe, Kakizoe, and Futeno showed up did he loosen up a bit. Also, in attendance were ozeki Chiyotaikai and former yokozuna Wajima. (see picture) "I am nervous," he confessed. "I am really, really nervous. What do I think of the bridal outfit? It's nice. he he . . ." But not too nervous to forget about his fellow Aomorian, the hopelessly timid Takamisakari. "We've arranged for that guy to meet a girl at the reception," he said conspiratorially. Harry 67 Posted April 30, 2008 Good for Beast which is what I'll have to call Iwakiyama from now on. I hope he improves his sumo a bit for natsu. He had a few good matches near the end but some really bad ones in the middle, including getting "small package"'d by Roho. Alas, poor Robo...
madorosumaru 7 Posted May 9, 2008 It was reported elsewhere on the forum that Futeno is getting/has gotten married. Here is the reaction of his pal, Miya-Babe in his blog. 04/09/08 Best Wishes for a Happy Marriage! Hello, everyone. It's really cold in Tokyo today. It looks like true spring is still far, far away. Well, we didn't have asa-geiko today and I had some spare time so I flipped open the newspaper and I saw an article on Futeno's marriage. The two of us have had dinner together a few times and I had heard that he intended to get married sometime this year, so I wasn't really that surprised but I got the strange feeling that he beat me to it. (laugh) In additon, I felt a tinge of "jealousy" to have [my buddy] Futeno taken away. (laugh) ha ha ha But still, Futeno's bride is a really nice girl. I think she is wasted on that guy. (smile) I mean it when I say congratulations. I hope you will be very happy. I am going to catch up to you soon. Now that I made that determination, I am going to bed. (laugh) Good night. ZZZ Taikai is looking for a bride. Miya-Babe is also raring to tie the knot. What's going on? Must be in the chikara mizu.
madorosumaru 7 Posted September 12, 2008 Kotomitsuki's engagement announcement has been reported elsewhere on the forum, but it deserves to be filed with the rest of the sekitori marriages. Ozeki Kotomitsuki announced his engagement to Maya Tanaka, a 33-year-old former hospital staffer from his home prefecture of Aichi. The press conference, held at Sadogatake Beya, was delayed for nine days due to the recent marijuana incident. The happy couple first met in 1999 when the young lady visited an asageiko session in Nagoya shortly after Kotomitsuki joined Ozumo. After a six-year courtship, the two will register their marriage later this month. The wedding reception will be held sometime next year. Kotomitsuki said, "When I am with her, I feel relaxed and secure." As what attracted her to her man, Maya-san gushed, "He has such a warm heart. [Even though some gaijin fans call him Mickey, he has a heart of a lion.] Oh, by the way, he also has a very nice smile." Asked what he calls his future bride, Mickey reverted to his characteristic squeak, "You're embarrassing me. That's our very own secret." Kotomitsuki holding Maya-san in the traditional ohimesama dakko pose. Maya-san acting properly demure.
madorosumaru 7 Posted November 15, 2008 (edited) Miyabiyama is rolling along undefeated in Kyushu. The reason may be his newly-wedded life. According to a sports publication, Miya-babe has been secretly married since prior to Aki Basho. His bride, who remains anonymous, is a 24-year-old former office worker from Fukuoka Prefecture. Miyabi has been having some hard times recently. Though he beat Asashoryu for a kinboshi in 2007 Haru, he injured his thigh that same basho and went kyujo. Several months later in June, his mother passed away. His bride, referred to only as A-ko-san in the article, was there to support him during the adversities. She had always been a Miyabi fan and the two often had meals together during past Kyushu Basho. Their formal relationship began last year. "I can relax completely when I am with her," said the happy big man. "After my mother died, she was the one that made me feel the urge to be competitive again." A-ko-san graduated from college earlier this year. At that time, they decided to get married. Before the start of Aki Basho, Musashigawa Oyakata, his shisho, gave his approval. They had held back on the announcement because of all the negative news about sumo. The Rijicho said, "I think we can make the formal announcement after [Kyushu] Basho. I hope the marriage will get him going in the right direction." Miya-babe displaying Marriage Power! Edited November 15, 2008 by madorosumaru
madorosumaru 7 Posted December 24, 2008 As reported elsewhere, maegashira Yoshikaze, 26, announced his marriage to Ai Nishiguchi, a 29-year-old floral arrangement designer. He had met his bride during Haru Basho three years ago through the introdution of mutual friends. "It was love at first sight," confided Yoshikaze, considered an "ikemen" hunk by his many female fans. "We started dating right away. I proposed to her two years ago but her career took precedence. It was my winning the Kanto-sho that provided the impetus for us to get married." The lovey-dovey couple call each other "Ai-chan" and "Maa-kun" (short for his given name, Masatsugu) and their affection for each other was obvious at the press conference. Ai-san said, "The sekitori tells me that he wants to remain active until he is 45. I am going to do my best to support him in that effort." As for the happy groom, he said, "She always has a smile on her face. She creates the proper atmosphere for me to concentrate." The marriage was registered on the 22nd. The wedding ceremony/reception is scheduled for next year. The happy couple in the traditional "ohimesama dakko" pose.
madorosumaru 7 Posted December 24, 2008 (edited) The Rijicho said, "I think we can make the formal announcement after [Kyushu] Basho. I hope the marriage will get him going in the right direction." As promised, Miyabiyama held a press conference after Kyushu Basho, during which his mystery bride was revealed to be 24-year-old Yuka Horie from Fukuoka. Miya-babe said that it was love at first sight. "She walked into the keiko-ba to watch asageiko. Her skin was so fair I thought she looked like a doll." Yuka-san had a job with a securities firm lined up upon her graduation from university this spring, so Miyabi went into a full offensive. "I convinced her to join 'Miyabiyama Inc.' instead," he said with a big grin. "I won her over with my best forward-moving blitzkrieg attack." He proposed to her in the spring and the marriage was registered in September. "I am very happy," Miya-babe told the media. "We want to have kids right away." However, it is obvious who is the boss at home. "I am on an allowance," the big guy said meekly. "When I was single, I used to go through 500,000 yen a month easily. Now, I get 50,000 yen for spending money. I really have to be careful with my bets at the racetrack." What about the kensho money? "He hands that over to me with the envelopes unopened. I stash the money away for the future," said the little lady. "He can't get away with anything. I count the number of kensho banners everyday." Kofuji 0 Posted May 5, 2009 Kurt Easterwood reports on the SML: fwiw, Kotoshuu announced his engagement to one Asako Ando today, with the wedding planned for February 2010. Other tidbits: they've been dating for 5 years, she's originally from Aichi Prefecture, she's 29 years old, works (or did?) for an airline company, and Kotoshuu proposed to her last Christmas. She knows how to cook 2 or 3 Bulgarian dishes, his parents are happy....that's all I remember from the press conference....
Kintamayama 44,354 Posted May 5, 2009 "It feels about the same as winning the yusho!", he said. Asked about a possible acquisition of Japanese citizenship in the future in order to stay with the Kyokai after retirement, he said. "I'll be thinking about that from now on..". Kintamayama 44,354 Posted June 8, 2009 Miyabiyama is expecting-wife should give birth in September. Yesterday was also the anniversary of his mother's death, and his new wife wore his late mother's kimono in her memory when she changed to clothing B, as is customary in weddings (the clothes changing, not the wearing of one's late mother in law's kimono). madorosumaru 7 Posted December 6, 2009 Miyabiyama held a news conference after 2008 Kyushu Basho to announce that he was married. Here is a snippet from a post from last December. . . . it is obvious who is the boss at home. "I am on an allowance," the big guy said meekly. "When I was single, I used to go through 500,000 yen a month easily. Now, I get 50,000 yen for spending money. I really have to be careful with my bets at the racetrack."What about the kensho money? "He hands that over to me with the envelopes unopened. I stash the money away for the future," said the little lady. "He can't get away with anything. I count the number of kensho banners everyday." A year later, Miyababe won the Kanto Sho at Kyushu, his first award since 2006. He was in great form during the press conference after the basho, waxing majestic about his prowess, until the subject came to how he was going to spend the ¥2,000,000 prize money. His smile disappeared and he told the media glumly, "If I don't hand the whole thing over [to my wife], I'd get [in deep trouble]. You know, she checks the number of kensho each and every day. I really think I should be getting a performance bonus with my allowance."
