Doitsuyama 1,192 Posted March 22, 2007 There were no changes at the top of the makuuchi leaderboard today as Hakuho, Asashoryu and Tochiozan beat Kotomitsuki, Kaio and Homasho. With 10-2 Tochiozan already is sure to get a sansho in his makuuchi debut and still getting some sort of shin-makuuchi bonus as he is getting a mid-maegashira rikishi as next opponent. Admittedly the chance isn't big anyway that Hakuho or Asashoryu will let him walk away with the yusho. Tamanoshima beat Wakanosato while Kokkai got the better of ozeki Kotooshu to stay within two wins of the lead. Tochiazuma is the third sekitori to go kyujo after Baruto and Miyabiyama as his knee injury was getting worse as the basho went on. Ama and Tokitenku continue their strong basho with wins and it looks possible that both komusubi will be kachi-koshi in the end. Kotoshogiku got his third straight win, but it isn't likely that he can stay in the sanyaku ranks. It isn't easy to see a strong replacement from the maegashira ranks as most candidates lost today with Kisenosato, Toyonoshima, Takekaze and Homasho. Kokkai won and is 9-3 now, an 11-4 from M6e could be good enough if the others fail. Otsukasa beat the second juryo yusho leader in two days to advance to 8-4 and secure a repromotion to makuuchi. I think we can call him a dai-nyumaku now as this will be his 10th makuuchi promotion. Satoyama won against Tosanoumi in makuuchi to pull even with Goeido. Ryuo, Tochisakae and Koryu won to join Otsukasa at two wins behind the two leaders. Since Satoyama and Goeido haven't met this basho yet, their yusho chance is quite small. Takamifuji and Daimanazuru won today and together with Tamarikido they are 5-7, needing at least a 7-8 to stay in juryo. All those rikishi are matched up with hot promotion candidates from makushita tomorrow. Shirononami made a big step to stay with a win against Asofuji to improve to 7-5. -- Doitsuyama Day 12 Juryo Ms4w Tamaasuka (3-4) amiuchi J14e Hokutoiwa (2-10) J14w Oga (4-8) hatakikomi Ms3w Musashiryu (1-6) J13e Takamifuji (5-7) oshidashi J10e Bushuyama (5-7) J12e Daimanazuru (5-7) yorikiri J9e Kobo (4-8) J8w Toyohibiki (7-5) hikiotoshi J12w Tamarikido (5-7) J13w Shirononami (7-5) yorikiri J7e Asofuji (6-6) J6e Tochisakae (8-4) tsukiotoshi J10w Hakuba (7-5) J11w Kyokunankai (6-6) yorikiri J5e Toyozakura (5-7) J11e Koryu (8-4) oshidashi J4w Hokutoriki (7-5) J8e Shunketsu (7-5) uwatenage J3w Masatsukasa (5-7) J6w Katayama (4-8) oshidashi J2e Kaiho (5-7) J7w Ryuho (6-6) yorikiri J2w Takanowaka (2-10) J1e Otsukasa (8-4) hikiotoshi J9w Goeido (10-2) J1w Hochiyama (5-7) yorikiri J5w Kitazakura (6-6) Makuuchi M15e Shimotori (6-6) yorikiri M16w Jumonji (4-8) J4e Satoyama (10-2) oshidashi M14w Tosanoumi (5-7) J3e Ryuo (8-4) hatakikomi M12e Ushiomaru (4-8) M12w Yoshikaze (4-8) yorikiri M15w Tochinohana (6-6) M9e Aminishiki (8-4) yoritaoshi M13e Hakurozan (4-8) M8w Tamanoshima (9-3) yorikiri M16e Wakanosato (8-4) M9w Tochinonada (7-5) tsukiotoshi M7w Roho (6-6) M6e Takamisakari (7-5) yorikiri M11w Kakuryu (7-5) M6w Kakizoe (6-6) oshitaoshi M10w Tokitsuumi (6-6) M14e Tochiozan (10-2) tsukiotoshi M5e Homasho (8-4) M11e Iwakiyama (4-8) yorikiri M5w Tamakasuga (2-10) M10e Kasuganishiki (3-9) hikiotoshi M4e Futeno (2-10) M2e Kyokutenho (2-10) hatakikomi M8e Dejima (5-7) M2w Asasekiryu (4-8) kotenage M3w Kasugao (3-9) K1e Ama (7-5) uwatenage M1w Toyonoshima (6-6) K1w Tokitenku (6-6) okuritaoshi M4w Takekaze (6-6) S1w Kotoshogiku (4-8) uwatenage M1e Kisenosato (5-7) O1e Chiyotaikai (7-5) fusen O3w Tochiazuma (8-4) M7e Kokkai (9-3) okuridashi O2e Kotooshu (7-5) O1w Hakuho (11-1) yorikiri S1e Kotomitsuki (8-4) Y1e Asashoryu (10-2) yorikiri O2w Kaio (5-7) Day 13 Juryo J13e Takamifuji (5-7) Ms4e Ichihara (5-1) Ms2w Sakaizawa (5-1) J12w Tamarikido (5-7) J12e Daimanazuru (5-7) Ms1w Chiyohakuho (4-2) J11e Koryu (8-4) J13w Shirononami (7-5) J8e Shunketsu (7-5) J11w Kyokunankai (6-6) J14w Oga (4-8) J6w Katayama (4-8) J10w Hakuba (7-5) J5w Kitazakura (6-6) J5e Toyozakura (5-7) J14e Hokutoiwa (2-10) J9w Goeido (10-2) J4w Hokutoriki (7-5) J4e Satoyama (10-2) J6e Tochisakae (8-4) J3e Ryuo (8-4) J7w Ryuho (6-6) J7e Asofuji (6-6) J2w Takanowaka (2-10) J2e Kaiho (5-7) J10e Bushuyama (5-7) J9e Kobo (4-8) J1w Hochiyama (5-7) J1e Otsukasa (8-4) J8w Toyohibiki (7-5) Makuuchi J3w Masatsukasa (5-7) M16w Jumonji (4-8) M11e Iwakiyama (4-8) M15e Shimotori (6-6) M12e Ushiomaru (4-8) M10w Tokitsuumi (6-6) M11w Kakuryu (7-5) M9w Tochinonada (7-5) M9e Aminishiki (8-4) M16e Wakanosato (8-4) M15w Tochinohana (6-6) M8w Tamanoshima (9-3) M8e Dejima (5-7) M14w Tosanoumi (5-7) M14e Tochiozan (10-2) M7w Roho (6-6) M13e Hakurozan (4-8) M6w Kakizoe (6-6) M12w Yoshikaze (4-8) M5w Tamakasuga (2-10) M10e Kasuganishiki (3-9) M3w Kasugao (3-9) M2e Kyokutenho (2-10) M2w Asasekiryu (4-8) M7e Kokkai (9-3) M1w Toyonoshima (6-6) M6e Takamisakari (7-5) K1w Tokitenku (6-6) K1e Ama (7-5) M4w Takekaze (6-6) M4e Futeno (2-10) S1w Kotoshogiku (4-8) S1e Kotomitsuki (8-4) M5e Homasho (8-4) O1e Chiyotaikai (7-5) O1w Hakuho (11-1) M1e Kisenosato (5-7) O2w Kaio (5-7) Y1e Asashoryu (10-2) O2e Kotooshu (7-5)

Kaikitsune Makoto 209 Posted March 22, 2007 The biggest test for Goeido tomorrow. Hokutoriki's style was poison to him before, now lets see if he can reach for that mawashi as well as he has been doing in previous bouts this basho.
slt 9 Posted March 22, 2007 I found the end of the Ama - Toyonoshima bout particularily interesting. Ama almost put his hand down, right at the edge of the Dohyo, but somehow managed to swing Toyonoshima around by the mawashi. Not the best sumo I've seen, but it does reflect Ama's usual determination, probably his quality I appreciate most. On another note... Kotomitsuki at 8 wins... with only one Ozeki left ahead. Should we be expecting his usual 8-7, or something more thrilling ? No double-digit wins since Natsu 2005 - I say it's about time.
sekihiryu 51 Posted March 23, 2007 The biggest test for Goeido tomorrow. Hokutoriki's style was poison to him before, before? according to the online stats they have never faced eachother before, this is their first meeting (Sign of approval...)
aderechelsea 125 Posted March 23, 2007 Hokutoriki's style was poison to him before. the bold part is what he has faced before. (Sign of approval...) Kaikitsune must have meant the he is not doing that well against tsuppari-oshi attacks like Hokutoriki's
Kaikitsune Makoto 209 Posted March 23, 2007 I am grateful and grapeful for the recurring events of aderechelsea, Asashosakari, Doitsuyama or others explaining what I meant when someone brings on questionmarks to my comments sometimes (Nodding yes...) Very funny actually and yes adere is right, Hokutoriki's style as an apeman pusher was the thing that used to be poison to Goeido. Hokutoriki himself isn't that relevant. Didn't see the bout but I guess Hokutoriki's style was bad for genki ippai Goeido this time too...
Doitsuyama 1,192 Posted March 23, 2007 Didn't see the bout but I guess Hokutoriki's style was bad for genki ippai Goeido this time too... Let's just say that Goeido had no chance whatsoever, it was an easy pushout for someone like Hokutoriki.
sekihiryu 51 Posted March 23, 2007 Hoku gave Goeido an serious death stare at the edge of the tawara after he had ejected him, he wasnt happy about something.
Kaikitsune Makoto 209 Posted March 23, 2007 Hoku gave Goeido an serious death stare at the edge of the tawara after he had ejected him, he wasnt happy about something. Probably just got annoyed by Goeido's staring and arrogance. Goeido stares at his foes with attitude so when Hokutoriki evidently beat him 100-0, Hoku must have showed some disdain like "all that staring and weak pathetic sumo you punk, go get some power!" Jonosuke 28 Posted March 23, 2007 It must be pretty tough to be Kyokutenho this basho. First he lost his favorite tsukebito in Kyokutenzan, now reduced to doing Chanko duty back at the heya. At least Tenzan got Kachikoshi so he should be back to Makushita next basho. But as for Tenho, he just about lost left and right, front and back this basho. The only two wins came from tachiai henka. Perhaps he could get a tip or two from his fellow heyamate Kyokushuzan on the art of pulling and twisting to obviliion.
21Grams 0 Posted March 23, 2007 Perhaps he should just retire. He has done good enough for his ability.

Jakusotsu 6,017 Posted March 24, 2007 To be honest I'll be glad not to have to see "Asashoryu - Kyokutenho" on the torikumi. Probably the most predictable bout anywhere in sumo. I would be inclined to agree, if my very first time in the kokugikan wasn't day 11 of Natsu 2004. (Showing respect...)
Jonosuke 28 Posted March 24, 2007 After trashing him so bad, I decided to give him a benefit of doubt. I heard from a reliable source that he has not been able to step hard because of his right foot injury (the one he has been taping it up). So let's see if he can bounce back next basho as he should go down quite a bit on banzuke so at that level he should be more successful provided he recovers from the injury. But his sumo has been alarmingly deteriorating for a while now.
