Doitsuyama 1,192 Posted March 19, 2007 (edited) Sakaizawa lost to Kitataiki to fall out of the makushita yusho race, but two other rikishi upheld the hopes of the 2006 Haru debut class for another makushita yusho as Tokitairyu won against Tochinoshin and Matsutani beat Nionoumi. Tomorrow Hoshihikari or Kimurayama will complete the leader field. Sakaizawa also fell behind Chiyohakuho and Wakanoho in the promotion line to juryo as both are ranked higher and also are 4-1 with wins over Wakakirin and Tokusegawa. Even the lead makushita Mokonami won with tsumatori against Buyuzan and needs just another win for a likely juryo promotion. Tsumatori actually is a very rare winning kimarite; I know only three previous occurances, Hatsu 2004 Furuichi vs. Toyonokuni, Haru 2000 Akebono vs. Tosanoumi and March 1930 Hitachishima vs. Shiogahama. It isn't a stretch to see Sakaizawa just in fifth place with a 5-2 - all needed is the other three ahead of him get one win and Kitataiki wins the yusho. So Sakaizawa better finish 6-1 or hope for hard demotions from juryo. There are more young rikishi getting kachi-koshi today with Daishoyu, Shibuya and Arawashi. The new makushita tsukedashi Mori is 2-3 now after getting tagged with a tsukite loss - touching the dohyo with his hand without influence from his opponent, the wily Kagaya. The first batch of sandanme leaders is dominated by older rikishi as Dewanosato, Hikarikaze and Kiozan won against younger opponents. The fourth leader, Hungarian Masutoo actually beat a younger opponent too, but Chiyonoshin is just six months younger. Tomorrow the two remaining young rikishi Koga and Kabasawa will find it tough against Hoshizakura and Tetsuhikari. At the top of sandanme Sadanoshima got his kachi-koshi to ensure a return to makushita which doesn't sound like much, but it was the first time he was able to beat Satsumanishiki after five losses. Among the early jonidan leaders are the national college rikishi Masumeidai who won against jonidan lifer Shinjo and former makushita Katsunofuji with a win against 16 years old Takakagaya. I'm relieved to see that Chiyonishiki isn't kyujo yet after facing Minami and Aran as he appeared to beat Koseki with tsukidashi. The new stars on the block get in action tomorrow with Aran facing Kotokaneko who has a 64-109-20 career record. -- Doitsuyama Jonokuchi Jk25w Higashi (2-3) yorikiri Jk36e Akatsuki (1-4) Jk33w Fay 1,677 Posted March 19, 2007 Arawashi, Taika and Chiyohakuho 4 - 1 (Pulling hair...) Great bout today from Mokonami, although most of the time I only saw half of the dohyo because of some strange camera work. But I am getting a little depression because of Sugita's 0 - 5. :-S

Doitsuyama 1,192 Posted March 19, 2007 BTW, does that make tsumatori the rarest of all kimarite? What does the uber-database say? Well... the next time we have a kakezori, sototasukizori or okurigake will be the first time I have it in my database. Then I have only one instance of the lovely shumokuzori, from September 1929. The winner was Hitachishima (again!) and he did that move against Azumazeki. All other kimarite are at least five times, so tsumatori is right up with the rarest of them. I should mention that I omitted all obscure kimarite now which were called before 1960 before apparently the kimarite list became standardized (Ever heard of a yoridashi? oshikiri? tsukihanashi? and many more...). Of those I have a lot only once or twice.
