Winter has arrived

Recommended Posts

This morning when I woke up I went to check on the goats, and it was -28C/-18F air temp, with a wind chill reading of -45C/-48F.

It will get colder from here. Warnings say -40C/-40F is not out of the question, but more likely only -35C/-31F.

Goats are cozy and warm in a heated barn.

Just in case certain former Minnesotans are homesick....

It's kind of nice being back in a climate where "Samui desu ne!" has real meaning. But of course, I get to wear more than a mawashi.

Glad the goats are cozy.

I have been feeling a bit homesick lately, actually. But, I'll never be a former Minnesotan, just a Minnesotan living elsewhere for the moment.

We had only our second snowing of the year here a couple days ago. (I missed the first one as I was in Kyushu climbing mountains.) People couldn't undrstand why I was so happy. Finally, it felt like winter. And I toasted the snowfall from my balcony with some hot sake.

No goats here, but yesterday chatting to a girl by instant msgr she asked what my job was and I said "I'm a nomadic goatherder. I wander the plains of Yonago with my goats." She believed me, which I've decided is a sign of good things to come in the future. ;-)
