Doitsuyama 1,156 Posted July 6, 2003 All Yokozuna and Ozeki took part and won on day 1 of the Nagoya basho; it must have been a long time this has happened. Several rikishi didn't look good today, especially Kotomitsuki and Tosanoumi come to mind. Tokitsuumi had a successful return from injury absence showing strong sumo against Buyuzan. The Juryo division seems strong this time with Kakizoe, Shimotori, Kokkai, Futeno, Takekaze and Chiyotenzan looking good on day 1. -- Doitsuyama Day 1 Juryo J12w Masutsuyoshi (1-0) tsukiotoshi J13e Kotoiwakuni (0-1) J11w Chiyotenzan (1-0) yoritaoshi J12e Nakao (0-1) J11e Kitazakura (1-0) yorikiri J10w Takanotsuru (0-1) J9w Wakakosho (1-0) oshidashi J9e Tamanokuni (0-1) J8e Takekaze (1-0) hikiotoshi J8w Harunoyama (0-1) J7e Hamanishiki (1-0) yorikiri J7w Oginishiki (0-1) J6e Kokkai (1-0) yorikiri J6w Futeno (0-1) J5e Senshuyama (1-0) uwatenage J5w Toyozakura (0-1) J4e Wakatoba (1-0) uwatenage J4w Kobo (0-1) J2w Shimotori (1-0) kirikaeshi J3w Hayateumi (0-1) J2e Kakizoe (1-0) hikiotoshi J1w Tochinohana (0-1) Makuuchi M15w Kinkaiyama (1-0) uwatenage J1e Yotsukasa (0-1) M15e Tamakasuga (1-0) oshidashi M14w Aogiyama (0-1) M14e Ushiomaru (1-0) hatakikomi M13w Wakanoyama (0-1) M12e Kasuganishiki (1-0) yorikiri M13e Kotomitsuki (0-1) M12w Kasugao (1-0) kotenage M11w Tochisakae (0-1) M10w Otsukasa (1-0) hatakikomi M11e Asanowaka (0-1) M9w Asasekiryu (1-0) yorikiri M10e Iwakiyama (0-1) M8e Kaiho (1-0) sukuinage M9e Gojoro (0-1) M7w Hokutoriki (1-0) oshidashi M8w Tamarikido (0-1) M7e Tokitsuumi (1-0) yorikiri M6w Buyuzan (0-1) M5w Kotoryu (1-0) katasukashi M6e Jumonji (0-1) M4w Toki (1-0) hikiotoshi M5e Tosanoumi (0-1) M3w Takamisakari (1-0) hikiotoshi M4e Tamanoshima (0-1) S1e Wakanosato (1-0) sukuinage M3e Takanonami (0-1) O2w Tochiazuma (1-0) uwatenage M2w Kotonowaka (0-1) O2e Musoyama (1-0) oshidashi M2e Kyokushuzan (0-1) O1w Chiyotaikai (1-0) oshidashi M1w Aminishiki (0-1) O1e Kaio (1-0) oshidashi M1e Miyabiyama (0-1) Y1w Musashimaru (1-0) uwatenage S1w Kyokutenho (0-1) Y1e Asashoryu (1-0) okuritaoshi K1w Tochinonada (0-1) Day 2 Makushita Ms10e Yoshiazuma (0-0) Ms10w Nadatsukasa (0-0) Ms8e Sumanofuji (0-0) Ms8w Toyonokuni (0-0) Ms6e Fujinohana (0-0) Ms6w Tokitenku (0-0) Ms4e Komahikari (0-0) Ms4w Tochifudo (0-0) Ms2e Asofuji (0-0) Ms2w Asahibenten (0-0) Juryo J12e Nakao (0-1) J12w Masutsuyoshi (1-0) J13e Kotoiwakuni (0-1) J11w Chiyotenzan (1-0) J7e Hamanishiki (1-0) J11e Kitazakura (1-0) J5e Senshuyama (1-0) J8w Harunoyama (0-1) J10w Takanotsuru (0-1) J5w Toyozakura (0-1) J4e Wakatoba (1-0) J9w Wakakosho (1-0) J9e Tamanokuni (0-1) J4w Kobo (0-1) J8e Takekaze (1-0) J3w Hayateumi (0-1) J2e Kakizoe (1-0) J7w Oginishiki (0-1) J6e Kokkai (1-0) J2w Shimotori (1-0) J1e Yotsukasa (0-1) J6w Futeno (0-1) Makuuchi M15e Tamakasuga (1-0) J1w Tochinohana (0-1) M13e Kotomitsuki (0-1) M14w Aogiyama (0-1) M14e Ushiomaru (1-0) M12w Kasugao (1-0) M11e Asanowaka (0-1) M15w Kinkaiyama (1-0) M10e Iwakiyama (0-1) M13w Wakanoyama (0-1) M12e Kasuganishiki (1-0) M10w Otsukasa (1-0) M11w Tochisakae (0-1) M8w Tamarikido (0-1) M6e Jumonji (0-1) M9e Gojoro (0-1) M9w Asasekiryu (1-0) M6w Buyuzan (0-1) M5e Tosanoumi (0-1) M8e Kaiho (1-0) M4e Tamanoshima (0-1) M7e Tokitsuumi (1-0) M7w Hokutoriki (1-0) M4w Toki (1-0) M1e Miyabiyama (0-1) M5w Kotoryu (1-0) M1w Aminishiki (0-1) S1w Kyokutenho (0-1) O1e Kaio (1-0) M3e Takanonami (0-1) M3w Takamisakari (1-0) O2w Tochiazuma (1-0) O2e Musoyama (1-0) S1e Wakanosato (1-0) K1w Tochinonada (0-1) O1w Chiyotaikai (1-0) Y1e Asashoryu (1-0) M2w Kotonowaka (0-1) M2e Kyokushuzan (0-1) Y1w Musashimaru (1-0)
Yubiquitoyama 4 Posted July 6, 2003 The Juryo division seems strong this time with Kakizoe, Shimotori, Kokkai, Futeno, Takekaze and Chiyotenzan looking good on day 1. Kokkai-Futen'o was a great match where both rikishi showed great abilities. It should only be a matter of time (and not that much of it either) before we see them in Makunouchi. The match ended though with Kokkai falling in high speed head first straight into the audience and he came up slightly limping. I don't think it was serious though, but that he at most got a slight concussion and will be back tomorrow. I was very impressed by Shimotori against Hayateumi. If he continues like that he should easily take the Juryo yusho. I was quite worried for Musashimaru though. In my opinion he looked very bad and I'm very sad to say it but I suspect this might be his last basho... Hopefully he'll prove me wrong tomorrow... In other matches, Takanotsuru seems to start where he left off. He was simply walked out the dohyo by Kitazakura and it looks like Makushita might loom for him... Asashosakari 16,974 Posted July 6, 2003 M15w Kinkaiyama (1-0) uwatenage J1e Yotsukasa (0-1) Yotsukasa probably hoped to avenge his senshuraku loss from Natsu which cost him his spot in Makuuchi at the last second, but no such luck for him here against Kinkaiyama. Not that I'm one to complain, as I actually put down a KK for Kinkaiyama in Sekitori-Oracle this time... :-D
Kashunowaka 269 Posted July 7, 2003 In other matches, Takanotsuru seems to start where he left off. He was simply walked out the dohyo by Kitazakura and it looks like Makushita might loom for him... After day 2 of Nagoya basho, Takanotsuru has 17 straight losses and counting. His record since Haru basho is 4-24-4... (Sign of disapproval) :-D
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted July 7, 2003 After day 2 of Nagoya basho, Takanotsuru has 17 straight losses and counting. I don't remember seeing any mention of an injury. Could he have some kind of chronic disease that keeps his performance down? 4-24-4 looks even statistically weird. Even in a "regular" bad shape a rikishi should win more than every seventh time he steps onto the dohyo. :-D

I think Takanotsuru has a really bad time in some area and simply can't concentrate, or care, about sumo at all. Today again he looked powerless, weak and uninterested. Then again, it COULD be a lingering injury, or perhaps another rikishi starting to have diabetes problems.

I haven't seen him in "action" (feels weird to type that in relation to 'tsuru right now) yet this basho, but this sounds like a repeat performance of his Natsu bouts. (Clapping wildly...) He doesn't seem to have any obvious injury, so I tend to agree with you, it appears to be something mental...he's doesn't even seem to be there on the dohyo. Certainly looks a LOT different from, say, Kotomitsuki and his hurting elbow (in Natsu), albeit with the same end result of losing all the bouts...
