Free NSK wall calendars

Recommended Posts

During the day tomorrow - shonichi - the staff of the Kokugikan will put out several hundred 2007 wall calendars, free of charge to the first to see them.

IIRC they are split into 2 groups and put out a few hours apart.

This has happened for as long as I can remember on shonichi of the Hatsu Basho - it just came to me today that it has never been said here before.

If you want one - gambatte. (usually released early - mid afternoon (again IIRC 1pm - 3pm or so)

I don't believe this is their calendar on sale. That one you can purchase (if they have still copies left) at souvenier shops in the Kokugikan.

The one they are handing out is a poster size calendar with all 12 months on with basho dates on the bottom and a drawing on top.

If you order the regular calendar through the Kyokai, this one sheet calendar comes with it. This year's version has an Edo-era drawing of two rikishis on the dohyo surrounded by a dozen rikishis (I notice a rikishi with Kashiwado name) with shimpans on the dohyo in a packed arena and someone climbing up to 300 level by a ladder !

In fact I got this calendar last year not on Shonichi but on the 7th day of the Hatsu basho. So, there is still hope for those who could not make it today to pick up one next weekend, I believe...
