yamaneko 2 Posted November 15, 2006 Is it just me, or does this basho have so much less intrigue surrounding it. Im just not really feeling much electricity or excitement in this basho. THe most interesting things that have happened, have been hakuho kyujo and kyokushuzan intai, not even directly related to bouts. So far in the bouts, there havent really be any "put that in your vcr and keep it" moments. Asa looks like the favorite so far, but nothing that spectactular even from him yet...futeno almost beat him. Osh looked great the first 3 days, then looked ridicluous today. Kaio is generating chants from the crowd, but his wins seem pretty cheap so far. Chiyotaikai is an unbroken record......slap slap slap, pull pull pull. MIyabiyama not really thought of to make ozeki. no one else really in promotion zone. Some higher maegashira guys might take a komusubi slot, but not much buzz yet for that. No really exciting shin nyumaku guys...kakuryu is ok, but no one really looked forward to his debut like recent guys such as baruto and homasho, etc. Not sure what its going to take to give this basho a kick in the butt, or sumo in general. Not enough "hype" now, as there are no yokozuna, ozeki hopefulls, baruto injured, etc. etc.

aderechelsea 124 Posted November 15, 2006 well look at it this way ... if we continue to have a "boring" basho untill the final days, we will have a lot of yusho deciding bouts then. all the excitement will be centered for a change on who will get the yusho. it would be nice to have 4-strong rikishi (with yusho chances) on day 13. Fukurou 534 Posted November 15, 2006 MIyabiyama not really thought of to make ozeki. I thought that door was still open...
Tony 16 Posted November 15, 2006 I completely agree with Aderechelsea! It's very interesting to see that all sekiwake, ozeki and yokozuna are genki.
kaiguma 0 Posted November 15, 2006 (edited) MIyabiyama not really thought of to make ozeki. I thought that door was still open... "Not really thought of . . ." Yamaneko probably means with one loss already in the first four days, he can only lose one more in the next 11 days if he even wants to be up for consideration for promotion. From Miyababe's recent performances, I'd agree that it's not bloody likely. But go for it anyway you beautiful blob you!!! GANBARE MIYABIYAMA! Let's see the hypnotic armflab once again. (Do not watch my slappy palms, see only the armflab, swinging left, swinging right, swinging left, swinging right . . .follow the arm flab my son.) EDIT: Oh yes, and I'm finding the basho plenty exciting. Right now I'm most into the Joi/Komusubi fallout as the basho progresses. Roho is strong to hold his rank, and we know Kissyface can do it again from 2-2. Kokkai and Aminishiki are going to have to beat the heck out of everyone below then come day 8 or 9 or they don't have a chance with 0 to spread around between them. Futeno looks poised to jump up if he can stay steady, but Ama, Iwakiyama, and Kotoshogiku have a very tough road ahead of them. In my opinion, only Ama can pick up KK from 0-4 with such a top-heavy banzuke. Edited November 15, 2006 by kaiguma
Ryukaze 0 Posted November 15, 2006 (edited) I think the biggest story of this basho will be how well Kaio does. He has looked very strong thus far, (granted a couple pull downs at the beginning but....) even thus he appears to be quite well, (I guess his new tactic is stall for the whole year until Kyushu comes around (Applauding...) ???) I am also interested to see how well Roho whill do, since his sudden and more aggresive change in sumo came last Basho he has looked excellent. I am was also excited to see little Kakuryu get his faced smeared, (so far hasn't quite happened yet.....) So while I wouldn't say this is the one of the more exciting basho's of the year that we've had, I wouldn't necessarily say its boring either........... Kintamayama 44,639 Posted November 16, 2006 (edited) Extremely interesting basho with intriguing questions: 1. Is Kyokushuuzan a gangster? 2. Who will take over Isegahama beya in 5 days? 3. Who designed Osh's bandage with the hole in the middle? (The DONUT bandage) 4. 10 rikishi winless after 4 days. 5. 7 rikishi lossless after 4 days. 6. 1 fan clueless after 4 days. 7. 41 rikishi topless after 4 days. 8. What brand wireless mike is Kokonoe Oyakata using when explaining the mono-ii? 9. Will Baruto have enough hair to make an oicho in the course of this basho? 10. Who has more acne-Ama or Rohou? 11. Is Tamanoshima around? 12. When will we finally see Kisenosato fly off the handle after a loss and get suspended? 13. Will Chiyotaikai ever touch an opponent's mawashi again? 14. Are the Japanese opponents letting KaioU win? 15. Is Katayama's perfect 160 degree angle shiko sapping all his energy that by the time the bout starts he can hardly stand, not to mention win? 16. Is Iwakiyama a cartoon character? This is just the tip of the excitement iceberg. Feel free to add. Edited November 16, 2006 by Kintamayama

Ryukaze 0 Posted November 16, 2006 (edited) In my opinion, only Ama can pick up KK from 0-4 with such a top-heavy banzuke. Not having to face the Yokozuna tommorow he won't, try 0-5 brudda. Edited November 16, 2006 by Ryukaze

slt 8 Posted November 16, 2006 I also think this basho is great, personally - and it seems a bit strange to call out a "boring basho" after the first four days...
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted November 16, 2006 19. Does anyone care?
Naganoyama 5,879 Posted November 17, 2006 20. Who cares about yamanekos opinion?Everybody has gotta have their own IMHO about this basho :) Unnecessary, uncalled-for, unkind!!! I suggest you take a deep breath and/or count to 10 before you post again.
yamaneko 2 Posted November 17, 2006 (edited) I think the basho is getting more interesting. THe first few days, there wasnt much buzz due to the aforementioned things. However, now we can wonder if asa can zensho....will kotooshu have another big loosing streak again, Can Kaio continue with his fountain of youth performance, will chiyotaikai continue to win...look at all the guys still without a win.....who is going to drop from komusubi.....can kotomitsuki finally keep it together for an entire basho......can baruto continue to beat the maegashira guys despite his injury......
