Peterao 3 Posted September 19, 2006 (edited) After his loss to Miyabiyama, NHK mentioned that Baruto felt like he had "twisted his knee", and was going to have it checked out. Even if he continues in the basho, at 4-6 with a bad knee it looks like his sanyaku promotion may be deferred for at least another basho... aderechelsea 125 Posted September 19, 2006 he couldn't stand up after the bout so i guess it must be serious ... in the end he climbed on the dohyo but looked like he was ina lot of pain. I guess that's the end of his Aki basho .... pitty
yamaneko 2 Posted September 19, 2006 Kotooshu might be the only one pleased with this as tomorrow he will probably get a forfeit win to break his loosing streak. I hope baruto is not seriously injured, but i hope he learns not to keep doing the sumo he does. Not only is it not good, but its dangerous when he backs up like that. He almost got injured earlier in this tournament on a similar falling back thing...forgot who it was against.
aderechelsea 125 Posted September 19, 2006 that pull down was not very smart indeed. he and miya cover 70% of the dohyo ... where the hell was he thinking he could go? hope he recovers fast though, or even better he is not seriously injured at all
ilovesumo 12 Posted September 19, 2006 (edited) He limped out with a face full of pain. No look at the fans, usual is a smile...he wasnt seen on the way out, hospital or secret way out... PS: a video, view is from the top of the Hanamichi is here, but yotube isnt taking it...if you want to see it, PM me how to get it online. Kintamayama 47,275 Posted September 19, 2006 Left knee-no fracture, maybe a ligament. "We'll see in the morning" usual talk. I say he's out.
sumofan 6 Posted September 19, 2006 (edited) Left knee-no fracture, maybe a ligament. "We'll see in the morning" usual talk. I say he's out. Probably. The thing with knees is that you always use them. The only thing that can fix a knee is rest. And unlike an arm, there is no way to protect it during Sumo. If he continues now, he'll do so much damage that his next basho will be bad as well. Edited September 19, 2006 by sumofan
Bishonohana 0 Posted September 19, 2006 From what I saw, I thought it was his left ankle... I guess it was his knee, if that's what NHK said. It sure looked like he twisted his ankle in an awkward position! Either way, it looked very painful!! Ouch!
ilovesumo 12 Posted September 19, 2006 (edited) Knee! It was all red when he limped out. He also banged his head. I hope he is ok...at least that he don't need a knee surgery... (Nodding yes...) It would kick him to mid Makushita or worse... Edited September 19, 2006 by ilovesumo
Fukurou 534 Posted September 19, 2006 From what I saw, I thought it was his left ankle... I guess it was his knee, if that's what NHK said. It sure looked like he twisted his ankle in an awkward position! Either way, it looked very painful!! Ouch! The first time I sprained my knee, I injured the ankle too (I still don't know which gave first, the knee or the ankle). So IMO it's quite possible for his ankle to do what you think you saw, and the main injury still being the knee.
Kotoku 0 Posted September 20, 2006 Doesn't matter if he ends up in Jonokuchi -- he'll be back. But -- and I think he is just great -- if he does not learn to get down at the tachiai and keep his sumo within himself, he is going to continue to get hurt. That would be a major bummer, cause he seems to be a great guy with a lot of promise.
