    New ISP banzuke

Yeah, that is the way for less experienced or more erratic player to gain some points in SB masters, these games with no divisioning, like ISP, UDH, TH, CG, ... sometimes even the worst player can end up in the top ten ;-)

    New ISP banzuke

    1. The title of banzuke page says Aki Basho 2007 ISP Banzuke - perhaps it could be changed :-) 2. My ring name is Ruziklao, not Ruzkilao :-) 3. I had good share of banzuke luck this time as with 5-10 I have lost just 3,5 ranks, while others with the same score seem to have lost more ;-) Thanks for all the work!

    "Asashoryu facing YDC" banter

Indeed, I am quite surprised how personal this thread became. Usually it is not the case at this board. I dare to try to express my opinions anyway. If I remember correctly, Asashoryu was watched closely and criticized for many things for a long time. It was not possible to exclude him and many people had to withstand a lot of his behaviour. So it is possible their chance came, they can humiliate him. My guess is: money and fame. As yokozuna he is paid quite well, taking into account all kensho and prize money. Where would he be paid like that? Fame is on the line as well, he still can break a few records. But once he quits, no return seems to be possible. It is not like in NHL, where Mario Lemieux returned to add a few points to his life records. Therefore quitting is an extreme strategy. Probably considered, but not yet chosen. I have a feeling I am listing just obvious things, but may be I am totally wrong...

    Hoshitori Game Kyushu 2007

    58 -9 Shiroyama Sw | 907 8-7 761 86 90 -30 | 56 46 0 10 0 61 +7 Ruziklao M1 | 905 8-7 787 68 70 -20 | 69 59 0 10 0 62 +7 Mabunkiyo J1 | 903 8-7 769 54 100 -20 | 69 49 0 20 0 Hmm... I think no one else has 4 rikishi on 7-7 before last day. My KK/MK bonus/malus might theoretically vary from +40 to -40 as there are no matchups on senshuraku between them. (Shaking head...) Expecting the worst (Clapping wildly...) , hoping for the best... (Clapping wildly...)

    ISP Question

correct Are you sure? If I remember correctly, if that happened in the past, everyone was awarded a win (or a loss, does not matter) to avoid disfavouring those living in the less comfortable time zones. May be that has changed... On another matter - is there a possibility to get autopicks correct for the day 5? No one kicked in for anybody, it seems strange... of course, I have noticed that only because my own did not kick in (Blushing...)

Day 5 results and day 6 pairings

I am not surprised that you are so successful in games if you know already today tomorrow's kimarite of all bouts :-D ... of course, mistaken copying (Sign of disapproval...)

Another possibility: diversifying away most of the risk - better 1 sure answer than 2 with 50 % probability.

    Superbanzuke Update

ABBA? (Holiday feeling...) Good try, but no. (Clapping wildly...) Rather FIDE Album. (I am not worthy...)

    Superbanzuke Update

What an answer! Thank you very much for that! (I am not worthy...) Easily imaginable for me... I am running personal website on the obscure hobby (chess composition) for more that 9 years, it consumes a lot of time, I am grateful for any interest in it and service failures sometimes drive me crazy. Sounds incredible! These are interesting numbers for someone like me. (Holiday feeling...) No, it was not my debut if I remember well. Sometimes in the past I managed to become sekiwake in UDH and moved within 42 best rikishi there, for one basho only, however. And it did not last for Kyushu, as Aki 2007 saw my MK in ISP, therefore I am back at J1e (Clapping wildly...) I have heard something like "Consistency, dear Watson, consistency, that is something you still miss" (Shaking head...)

    Superbanzuke Update

Is there any chance to see update of website in the foreseeable future? I was hoping to see some interesting numbers next to my name for Nagoya and Aki ... of course, interesting only taking into account my low gaming qualities (I do not remember to be anywhere on the Superbanzuke now) ... and hoping to move within the top 100 2007 gamers.

Invitation for Shiyonofuji's Upside Down Hoshitori

After leading for a couple of days, I was heading for lower places and indeed my lack of self-confidence have provoked nightmares about makekoshi, but climbing back started soon enough to achieve at least a jun-yusho. While some others do have their cabinets already filled with awards, for me it is still valuable achievement. Feeling like Kyokutenho (Showing respect...)

    Sumo Gaming participation

Indeed, more talking about games would be great. Although my own performance is not worth of talking overall, time to time I have perhaps something interesting to say. Just... if no one else posts anything, it might look strange. And reading comments by more successful and/or experienced people is always welcome.

    ISP scoring problem

Yes, I think it should be sorted out not only for me, but for others. I have just checked my autopick and if it had kicked in, it would be a loss... (Sign of approval...)

    ISP scoring problem

I have noticed a problem with ISP score for Nagoya 2007. For the Day 14, I have scored "a". I am not sure whether I have made pick, probably not, however, my auto-pick should have kicked in anyway as did on days 1, 12 and 15. But it did not. As far as I can see, gusoyama, nagayama and some others seem to have the same problem, autopicks on other days, but not on day 14. For me it is a problem, because if the autopick would be win ("o"), I would have 10 wins instead of 9 ... and makuuchi promotion seems to be in question (Nodding yes...) :-/

    ISP scoring problem

It was in PM with me, but nevertheless... I had the feeling that the new banzuke is under preparation and also uncovered it was not only my own problem, but also that of others. So I wanted to bring it to the attention of other responsibles. By chance, thanks to non-kosho absence I managed to slip into Makuuchi as 5th and the last in line... (On the banzuke...)

    Kotomitsuki's Golden Opportunity

While I do agree with the most of what Chiyozakura has written, I have my point regarding one of the sentences bolded by previous writer as well: "If the punishment he received is fair or not is not for me to decide." It is not a matter of decision. Decision on punishment was done by NSK as expected. But the fairness is a matter of opinion and can be subject of discussion. Most long-time members are not surprised and see the punishment as fair, others do not. Everyone can have its own opinion on that issue. I tend to think that harsh punishment is all right. Nevertheless, marking someone as a "nationalist idiot" seems to be going too far a and someone with deep interest in sumo and its etiquette should reconsider that at least four times rather than only twice.

    first reactions to Asa's suspension

I have always thought that Kokkai can make great things, but this is going even further than I ever imagined... (Sigh...) (Sorry, I could not resist, I know you have meant Kyokai... :-S)

    Asa in hot water again?

... or as is expressed in the other topic (Asa in hot water again), it is considered too lax by about 2/3 of voters in the poll ... :-S

medical look at Asa in hot water

Thanks to everyone for providing any information. It is funny that Jonosuke has only mentioned the baseball issue as something analogous without going much into detail, while Madorosumaru has explained it more elaborately. I guess it was already discussed here, for me as a relative newcomer, however, these things are new, so many thanks again.

    Asa in hot water again?

That last sentence made me think of ... what were the worst things makuuchi riskishi or even sanyaku rikishi or even champions have ever done? While I do not want to turn this topic into tabloid, I think this might help some of us to put this Asashoruy's mistake into wider picture. As a complete foreigner I am fascinated by sumo world and its etiquette. I do remember only a few such bad things done that were frowned upon and in the moment I can only write a very few: Roho vs. Chiyotaikai Asashoryu taking kensho with left hand Asashoryu somewhere in Mongolia (Takasago oyakata had no idea where and when he returns) Mage pulling in the bout ... What is worse and why?

Day 10 results and day 11 pairings

Well, I understand the safety first fan approach, after all, I watch sumo since Aki 2001 and Kotomitsuki was often on display... but wait, exactly in Aki 2001 he has proved that he is capable of taking yusho. The opponents might have been incapacitated back then, but on the other hand he is also more experienced now... and likely Ozeki who is expected to fight for yusho after all...
  24. Ruziklao

Day 10 results and day 11 pairings

Sounds like a joke now - single no loss rikishi, likely next ozeki, and we should not talk about possible yusho?! (Clapping wildly...) If it was some M15, then well, yusho hopes would be premature even with 10-0, but talk seems to be all right anytime...

    Salarycap Sumo Invitation Nagoya 2007

Indeed, the cost sheet shown to me is quite funny as is the input form. E.h. Hochiyama is shown twice. I believe I am not the only one with funny inputs: M14E Baruto 109 M14W Toyohibiki 83 M15E Kaiho 66 M14W Hochiyama 112 M15W Tamakasuga 123 M16E Kakizoe 105 M16W Hochiyama 98 M17E Otsukasa 111
