What is the rule for Hakuho's Yokozuna promotion?
YukataNinja replied to Tikozan's topic in Honbasho Talk
I'm still new to sumo, but I heard Yokozuna promotion as looked at the record over the previous three bashos with 38/45 being a minimum. Hakuho went 10-5 and 13-2 (+playoff) the last two, meaning he would need a perfect 15-0, or do the 2 consecutive bashos trump this? -

What does Osh's shirt say? -
really you think 11 wont be enough for promotion? If two ozekis disappear due to promotion and retirement, he might have a chance with 11 wins, but I think the Kyokai will want a stronger proof of consistency before they repromote him. With four or five ozekis, there is no rush to promote him. From the post basho YDC thread: So I guess 10 is iffy, and 11 is a sure thing.

I'm surprised there wasnt even a monoii, I thought it was clearly an extremely close call the first time I watched that video (before reading this board). And atleast in the Asa comparision above, asa had the mind and determination to go belly first and eat sand, unlike miyabiyama (thats more to respection asa than dissing miyabiyama).

Okay here is my first go. Infobar is on the right http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asashoryu_Akinori Please tell me what you think. What should be added or changed, before the info bar is added to every makuuchi page, which I plan to start next weekend.

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone else would be interested in working on adding info about sumo wrestlers to wikipedia. There is already a decent article on sumo, but I would like to create and fix up individual wrestler pages. I have attempted to create an infobox template: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Sumo_wrestler_infobox, but I am not very skillful with wikipedia. If some people would like to help me work on this template and then get up pages for makuuchi division wrestlers, I think it would be helpful in spreading info about sumo.

Is Kotooshu destined for sumo greatness?

Hey ya'll. Im somewhat new to sumo, I first saw it on TV while studying for 6 weeks in Hiroshima the summer of 2004. I found it very interesting and have tried to continue watching, but it's hard being I can only watch it 2-4am on NSK mini webcast. But atleast I can still watch. A little more about me, I'm a Junior in Electrical Engineering at the University of Illionis (Yea, the school with that kickass basketball team). I also started taking Japanese this semester. Check my profile to see a picture of me. Then maybe you'll understand my alias. o.O yoroshiku onegaishimasu

Hello all, this is my first time posting here! I was wondering if someone could explain what all went on in this match (Ama vs Tokitenku) on day 14. I have only been watching sumo for a year and dont know japanese (yet :p) so I had no clue what the judge was saying. Also, anyone have an offical time how long that was and how offten a bout lasts that long.
