  1. I see. Well, one can argue that few ozeki hints at a relatively weaker competition overall (at least when there are also few yokozuna), thus making every performance somewhat less significant. But I got my answer, thank you.

Slim Shady ... Tochinoshin is back tomorrow!  He will be attempting to get his kachikoshi (to avoid further demotion), which means a minimum of 8 wins in 11 bouts (i.e., 72.7% win performance). Normally a KK only requires a 53.3% win performance.  Recently demoted Ozeki have to produce a 66.6% win performance (minimum 10 wins in 15 bouts) to get reinstated.  And as most fans here know, that's something which Tochinoshin pulled off in May 2019.

8 wins here, however, is a bigger ask.

Will our man from Georgia pull it off?  If he does, that should generate some added enthusiasm in this tournament!

At least, he won't have to deal with Asanoyama and questionable monoii decisions!!!

I think he doesn't aim for KK, but rather for whatever score will be enough to not send him to juryo immediately.

I wonder, too.  Was he known as a teacher/mentor in the heya?  Did he help guide the careers of Sadanoumi, Toyohibiki, Myogiryu?  Did he talk about "raising up rikishi to surpass me"?

In terms of age all of them are more or less his peers, Toyohibiki even being slightly older. Of course rankings hierarchy and everything, but still... I doubt he was a mentor figure for them.

Huh. Yesterday Nikkan wrote that a new medical certificate had been submitted which said the treatment period had been extended to "about 7 days" (約7日). And now he's back in as if the original (two days) was correct in the first place. :-S

I haven't read the artcle, but the 約7日 part could easily mean "approximately till day 7". Which is not completely lacking sense, because initially there was no 100% info that he won't appear on day 7. ... Well, after reading the article it seems more like "7 days" after all. Interesting, Anyway, if he is well, I'm glad.
