Perfect timing, Hiro...

Well, Haru is still far away. He's 15 he will add some height for sure.
-
I know he "has to", but I won't be surprised if he doesn't (at least for now).
-
So, what will Terunofuji do now. Pulling out is very justified, but he has shown multiple times in the past that if there's any choice he usually elects to persevere.

No way. If he takes yusho, he will almost certainly be promoted to sanyaku. And he needs to stay maegashira to collect more kinboshi.

Not a great day for the commentator debut, with Miyagino on Abema.

More than 50? Hakuho looks down on those weaklings. http://chaingang.sumogames.de/Standing.aspx?B=91&D=1

Yeah. And 20 years ago it was Asashoryu.
Edit: And Asashoryu's was somewhat random. Ura's was very deliberate.

I think there's a quota for Ozeki wins per basho at around 23. And with Mitakeumi out early the other two had to make most of it by themselves this time.

Meisei is a certified giant slayer. Let's not forget he has 2 wins over Terunofuji in last year too.

These guys on the photo found him at night... boy must have been scared to death.
-
It can be 6 losses then 6 wins for Akua or 4-4-4 for Mitoryu.

Is he just playing with us all... this is not Shoudai...

Belt came loose. Inosuke went to fix, Terunofuji saw it, Wakamotoharu didn't.

Maybe it's right. But I don't think something that big should be decided "case by case". 1 positive test (which may or may not turn into negative 2 days from now) and 24-33 Dewanoumi-beya, 2-4 injured kadoban ozeki included, gets kosho. Who knows what's next? If they are absolutely adamant on that the virus can't be contained any other way, imo demoting everyone is the only way that doesn't break the system too badly.
-
Tsk-tsk. What a good timing. First KKs and MKs in lower divisions start to appear exactly on day 7. I just don't see them making it a rule that "If it's before nakabi it's everyone Kosho, if it's after, everyone goes to hell'.
-
2 minutes ago, Eikokurai said:0-12 is clear cut: demotion. They’ve already got their makekoshi. Makekoshi is ‘achieved’ the day it happens, not when the basho ends and the final record known.
But only for ozeki it is as simple as demotion - not demotion. Do you freeze ranks of everyone in the heya? Do you freeze ranks of everyone, who is yet to get "confirmed" MK? Treat 0-7 and 7-0 equally?
-
But not demoting Mitakeumi creates a precedent that can bring trouble in the future. Yes, Mitakeumi is 2-4 this time, but what if it's someone with 0-6 instead? What about 0-12? Let's not forget that it's a whole stable (not a small one) and it would make sense to treat them uniformly.

Good plan, but on the very first step it will become apparent that they are mostly the same people.

Yeah, not accounting for opponents ranks at all won't do. If one wants to calculate strength of the opposition which does not have any Y or O among them, I'd say just look at their positions at the next banzuke. Of course it's not the case when talking about makuuchi yuusho, but there are still some viable methods, e.g. just like counting for promotion/demotion purposes - Rank+score.

There is one riikishi left in Makuuchi who beat him when he had his favoured grip. it was also the last time. Guesses ? :
Just for the laughs I will go with Shoudai.

Teru's just one off, but he seems so weak against aggressive thrusters this basho, and he still has a few to go.
Shared with the great Ichiyamamoto himself.

Yokozuna really delivered today. Amazing perseverance. Some questionable or even straight up bad calls from gyouji not questioned by shinpan again today.

After 6-0 start Ryuden loses 3 in a row and these 3 bouts are nearly identical. Strange lack of awareness from him.

Might as well just follow traditions and start from week 2.
