Howdy from Texas, y'all! Figured I'd create a thread dedicated to Dallas Sumo Club for those who have interest in United States amasumo. We started in January 2021 and have been going strong, improving every week. We have a backlog of videos on our YouTube channel and will continue to update it regularly. Here are our latest efforts: Dallas Sumo Club - Yamageiko Highlights (August 4, 2021) Hakkey'all!

Dallas Sumo Club - Keiko (November 20, 2022) It's been a few weeks since we've been able to do a normal Sunday keiko, due tournaments and demonstrations at public events... But we were surprisingly joined this Sunday by two attendees of our demo at the Fort Worth Texas Japan Fall Fest - Dom (middleweight) and Parker (heavyweight)! Please support our new deshi to gamabarize by cheering them on and let us know which bouts were you favorite in the comments! Dallas Sumo Club - Keiko (November 16, 2022) Hakkeya'll! It's been a while since we've posted a keiko video - we're going to try to get back to bi-weekly videos, but MATCHES ONLY for now! If you do have any questions or suggestions, please comment! Apologies for the lack of videos - I've gotten so busy with freelance film and photography (my livelihood outside of the dohyō), that I haven't been able to edit any of our keiko and event videos. I shoot, edit, create and post all Dallas Sumo Club content and it's become impossible as of late with my hectic schedule. With that being said... We're looking for a VIDEO EDITOR if you know any! - Dallas Oyakata (Corey Morrison) Support Dallas Sumo Club: https://www.dallassumoclub.org/ Join Dallas Sumo Club: Sunday 11AM - 2PM & Wednesday 9AM - 12PM Arlington School of Self Defense 2225 W Park Row Dr. Pantego, TX 76013

Our sumotori dust off the dohyō after a week without proper keiko. There's a lot of motivation to gambarize coming off the end of The World Games 2022 Birmingham and the start of the Nagoya Basho in Japan. Also, the "Gunyō" brothers complete their official club uniform with the addition of their official Dallas-beya zekken - おめでとう! Please leave a question in the comments or here you'd like answered by Dallas Sumo Club rikishi in the next video! Dallas Sumo Club - Keiko Highlights (July 10 , 2022)

Dallas Sumo Club was joined by two members of the United States of America Sumo Team competing in the World Games 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama, USA this month for a joint-training session to help prepare them! Although several of us were injured, we did our best to gambarize. Robert Fuimaono (Heavyweight) and Justin Kizzart (Lightweight) shared a lot of knowledge with us between matches and it was an honor to host them. Enjoy the hilarious Q&A at the end... がんばって TEAM USA! Please leave a question in the comments or here you'd like answered by Dallas Sumo Club rikishi in the next video! We've decided to pickup the pace of our keiko and try more of a traditional heya approach, doing away with most of the pre-match rituals before every bout. We were joined by several shin-deshi (first timers) and they absolutely blew us away, figuratively and literally! We have short interviews with them at the end, along with a good-sized Q&A segment! Please leave a question in the comments you'd like answered by Dallas Sumo Club rikishi in the next video! Dallas Sumo Club - Keiko Highlights (June 26, 2022)

Rick Garza has already shown great signs of developing his ring sense. Sean Byrd improves his already great tawara work. Some of Stephen Pretto's bouts were missed, but he proved his balance is nothing short of impressive. Kashōkuma (Drew Bramlett) ramps up his power from the tachiai and shows he has what it takes to stay inside the dohyō for as long as needed. Miseba (Khalil Collins) goes on what may be the longest king-of-the-hill run we've seen, he even yorikiri-ed his asthma out of the ring. Liz Dixon (Kurowashi's roommate) joins us for the basics! Kurowashi (Matt Jim) really shines and gets the most wins he's seen in a keiko so far. Akakokkaku (Dakota Eggert) tries out tsuppari for the first time... While he has the speed, he needs to work on power. When Hananooni (Jonathan Flowers) wants to put your cardio and conditioning to the test, you'd better be ready for a lengthy bout. Osuushigishi (Jared Tadlock) once again holds a seminar in diversifying your kimarite. Dallas Oyakata (Corey Morrison) starts on a good note, but can't seem to find his footing against larger opponents after dropping to lightweight.

Dallas Sumo Club - Keiko Highlights (March 27, 2022) Note: We're adding short interviews with the rikishi at the end of the videos to help you learn more about us, give club updates and hear the perspective of our sumotori. Osuushigishi (Jared Tadlock) proves again why he is our club's heyagashira, but definitely has to work hard for it. Sean Byrd hosted a senshūraku watch party for the Haru Basho the evening before practice and while everyone's a little hungover and groggy, his tsuppari are just as brutal as ever. Kurowashi (Matt Jim) gives his body a bit of a break during our warm up and saves his energy for more bouts. Albert Martinez is a multitool of technique and his fire simply cannot be extinguished by anyone but himself. Mike Hammond's ring-sense continues to grow and has become a viciously strong oshi-zumō specialist. Akakokkaku (Dakota Eggert) acts strictly as gyōji for this practice, as he was saving his energy for a Lightspeed Saber League tournament in the evening. Dallas Oyakata (Corey Morrison) is now officially competing as a lightweight and now must navigate new ways to secure wins against his heavier opponents. Dallas Sumo Club - Keiko Highlights (March 20, 2022) The Brothers Garza (Rey, Rick & Bubba) join us as our latest shin-deshi after jumping in the dohyō at a public sumo exhibition we held last weekend. Their experience in wrestling helps them easily find their footing in sumo. Steven Cao returns to practice and once again shows his strength and fighting spirit. Osuushigishi (Jared Tadlock) goes on a splendid king of the hill run, demonstrating his ability to supply a defense against different opponents attack styles. Hananoni (Jonathan Flowers) thirst for battle can never be satisfied until injury is sustained. Albert Martinez deploys a powerful oshi-zumo style, while keeping his yotsu-zumo skillset in his back pocket for when he needs to summon it. Mike Hammond exudes raw power, sending several of his fellow sumotori flying out of the ring or causing them to give up at the tawara. Kashōkuma (Drew Bramlett) returns and really puts the medal to the medal with his improving tachiai and ring sense. Miseba (Khalil Collins) although injured, insisted on proving his talents and superb balance. Dallas Oyakata (Corey Morrison) rallies the troops and attempts to improve his wins to losses ratio.

Dallas Sumo Club - Degeiko Highlights w/ Sumo Nomad (March 13, 2022) Kyle Ferriter of Sumo Nomad (2021 USA National Openweight Gold Medalist), joins us all the way from Colorado Springs, CO for a weekend of training and gets in as many bouts as he can before the 2022 Sumo Nationals in Salt Lake City, UT! David McGibbon tried his hand at sumo for the very first time and had great form during suriashi. Dallas Sumo Club's okamisan, Siggy Sauer, joins us for our pre-fight exercises. Albert Martinez ignites the fire for combat deep within and pushes himself to the absolute limit. Osuushigishi (Jared Tadlock) goes toe-to-toe, bringing his wrestling background to the forefront. Mike Hammond proves that several months off sumo didn't do much to his skillset and snatches some formidable wins. Dallas Oyakata (Corey Morrison) thrusts a lightning fast nodowa and tries to stay low, but ends up becoming a ragdoll several times.
