    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

I really wish he'd start incorporating more grappling into his repertoire, he's got the build for it. Balance is his biggest issue, sometimes it's like he has banana-peel shoes on, but he seems to fare better when he can get a hold of his opponent. I've always seen him as the darkhorse when compared to other similar rikishi like Hoshoryu or WTK. He's rough around the edges, but with a bit of polishing, I could see him going on his own Yusho run one day.

That throw on Enho was so crisp!

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

Hell of a battle between Oshoryu and Tochikamiyama. It was something to see Tochi fight his way out of such a disadvantageous position to score a close win.

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

I feel like developing some form of yotsu-zumo could be the factor that gets Abi to Ozeki.

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

Still early days but I'm really liking Kiribayama's sumo so far. Yutakayama also looks very dialed in. I wonder what it's been like for him watching his Shodai deal with long covid. Perhaps the Ozeki's struggles have inspired him to fight harder, or he feels the pressure of representing Tokitsukaze-beya.

    Hatsu 2022 discussions (results)

I have really been enjoying the return of Abi. I was a fan when he first entered Makuuchi, but his antics and immaturity started to rub me the wrong way. His suspension seems to have humbled him and given him time to mature into a very respectful rikishi. I look forward to seeing where Abi goes from here!

Especially when you see him moving around stiff as a board because of that lower back injury.

Thanks for the update. Such a shame.

    Nagoya 2021 kyujo list

I apologize in advance if this is not the place for this question, but has there been any information on Hakuyozan?

    Nagoya Basho 2021

In this case, though, Diaiesho was out before the dame-oshi.
  13. This is incredibly disappointing. I feel gutted that he would do something so irresponsible. What could he have gained from breaking covid rules knowing how serious the consequences would be? It makes no sense...

Actually not so concise rikishi talk

If he was nervous he certainly wasn't showing it. He looked as calm and confidant as a rikishi can be.

Rikishi Status - 2021 Haru Basho

Just saw that Endo is kyujo, could be the taped left calf.

    March basho 2021

Going frame by frame through the Teru-Ono Matta, you can clearly see a good inch or two between the clay and Terunofuji's hands. It was the right call.
  17. Sanyo is something new to me. So if Miyagino retires and is rehired to consult, would he trade kabu with Hakuho? This is in the scenario where Hakuho doesn't get the ichidai toshiyori. Also, are some kabu ineligible to be Sanyo?

2021 "Kozumo" Hatsu Basho discussion thread

I'm curious if his 8-5-2 record from September is delaying a promotion. Going kyujo after getting his KK was the smart move, it saved his knees which most likely contributed to his impressive 13-2 in November, but it's not the most stable of foundations for an Ozeki run.

Do you mean Asanoyama? Shodai has beaten Terunofuji four times, the most recent being July 2020.

2021 "Kozumo" Hatsu Basho discussion thread

I know many do, though they're not often seen putting them on or taking them off. I remember once Hakuho was going into an interview after clinching a Yusho and he took his out and handed it to a tsukebito right before entering the interview room. Ah the days before covid...

Preparations of the Y/O- November 2020

I am curious if seeing Takakeisho, Shodai, and Hakuho taking part in joint-keiko will motivate Asanoyama to make an appearance as well. Just training with Asabenkei and Asagyokusei isn't going to give him the same kind of intensity he would get if he was at the kokugikan.

Sumo’s newest Ozeki — Shodai Naoya

This really puts things in perspective for newer fans who didn't experience the mediocre Shodai of the last few years. Being a Shodai fan through that time was full of ups and downs and lots of frustration, but I am so happy that he has finally gotten it all together and risen to his full potential. So well deserved. Congratulations Ozeki!

Ah, thank you! I was aware of his brother's actions, I'm disappointed Takagenji was involved in some of the hazing as well.
