I'd put Hokutoumi and Onokuni in the pre-Futahaguro era, as the relevant date is his intai in 1988, not his promotion in 1986.
-
Could go either way, depending on whether they favor rank or record.

O2w, surely?

That's 7 slots claimed in Ms1-Ms5; who fills out the rest of the promotion zone? Seems like Chiyoarashi is a lock. Then Terasawa and Shimazuumi? With Murata just dropping out of the top 10?

21 minutes ago, Gurowake said:Then there's Takayasu up for Ozeki. I'd put him in the same boat as Terunofuji in terms of performance needed - 13 wins should obviously be enough, but 12 wins and a yusho should also be sufficient given recent precedence
Isegahama specifically said "a 13-win yusho" for what it's worth.

Pretty sure that's the case; 12-3 J/D is not much of a foundation for a rope run.

I mean, Kotoeko is 100% guaranteed to be ranked ahead of Okinoumi, as they both finished 9-6 at M12e and M12w, respectively.

I agree, and even J1e wouldn't be crazy.

However, I am happy with the yusho.
Thanks for the game.
Congrats! Tamawashi was on my short list, but there was no good way to guess which of the 6-7 guys would lose and therefore be in a position to face Hokutofuji. And even so, there were multiple reasonable choices.

14 minutes ago, Yamanashi said:According to the db, a 12-3 at M8 has gotten you to M1 for the last sixty years. Of course, Asanoyama got a Yusho at 12-3 from M8 precisely 2 years ago, and his reward was ... M1.
Yeah, you're right.

4 hours ago, Gurowake said:If Endo wins and Meisei loses, it might be a tough call for the last sanyaku spot. Endo wins by the numbers in this case, but someone who faces the full joi schedule and gets a KK is usually considered a better bet than someone just marginally better by the numbers from deep down in the banzuke.
12-3 at M8 vs 8-7 at M2 wouldn't be that marginal by the numbers...

That dart doesn't seem so random
But here's one that is:
15. Chiyotairyu

Oh right, so either way I need to make a different pick to stay in contention.

I know who I think the most likely aite is, but I guess I need to wait for @Sakura since she outranks me.
-
I keep going back and forth but running out of time so:
14. Hidenoumi

13. Kiribayama

12. Daieisho
After this is gets interesting.
-
Sure seems like it should be
11. Mitakeumi
-
10. Aoiyama
The Kyokai is always consistent in their decision-making from one day to the next, right?

That is the question.

9 hours ago, Sakura said:But he could play havoc for Day 10. Aoiyama was skipped over in favour of Onosho for an opponent for Asanoyama (& Hoshoryu for Shodai). Does that mean Aoiyama won't face any Ozeki? What about Sekiwake or Komusubi? Does his de-facto MK mean that he'll only face Maegashira or will he see some proper joi opponents?
Usually they throw them right into the fire
-
Looks like Aoiyama is re-entering but I don't think that changes my first choice (though it would change my second).
-
9. Takanosho (I haven't seen anyone pick the aite I think it will be if it's not Takanosho)

Only 4 kachi-koshi for the 21 maegashira from M1e to M11e does tie the record in the six-basho era at least, with only 4 prior instances, most recently at Aki 2000.
