I was curious to see which of the Yokozuna past & present that you all favor. Even if they were active before you started watching sumo, based on footage you have seen, or research you have done, who is your all time favorite Yokozuna and why? If you can’t narrow it down to just one, feel free to list a few.

Serious question. Not to count chickens before they hatch, but if Terunofuji does manage to become Yokozuna someday, will his knees allow him to perform the Dohyo-Iri? He looked to be in quite a bit of pain getting to his knees during his latest Ozeki promotion ceremony, so how will he be able to manage the Dohyo-Iri?

Does anybody know how many sumo-related surgeries Hakuho has had? A list of how many and the nature of the surgeries would be appreciated if anybody knows how to find out. His most recent knee surgery got me thinking about how many times I have read that he has undergone a knee operation and it seemed like quite a few. All of the years of wear and tear have surely added up to a decent amount of operations.

Hmm....I wonder if they are only counting major surgeries, because I seem to recall many more minor operations on his knees over the years, unless I’m getting those mixed up with another rikishi....

Unfortunately I don’t speak Japanese. What is his favorite food?

I hear that Asanoyama is working with a personal trainer now. Does anybody have any insights into his training routine or nutrition program?

What’s up with all of this talk of nervousness from Asanoyama? Is he being modest, or does he actually get this nervous each time he steps on the dohyo?

I believe it is considerably more than 100, like several hundred per day.

Unlike many other sports, I don’t recall ever seeing the wives/families of rikishi shown in attendance at a basho. Is it not customary for their families to go to the basho and watch, or is it just not shown in the broadcast? Also, if wives and kids do usually attend, do they get comped tickets?

100kg at 60 years of age? Good for him, that’s awesome to hear. Glad to see that he is keeping himself in good shape. Can’t wait to see his kanreki dohyo-iri, I hope he is able to do so soon. This yo yo weight gain/weight loss is not good for the body so the sooner he can get back to maintaining a lower weight the better. A big happy birthday to Asahifuji, and may there be many more to come.

Tonight I made Japanese curry for the first time. Unfortunately I forgot to get chicken so it ended up being a tofu curry, but it was delicious all the same. What did you all have for dinner?

Does anybody know of any documentaries or in-depth promotions on Musashimaru? I want to know more about him and see more footage of not only his matches, but his training and his time as Yokozuna. But there doesn’t seem to be much out there....surely he must have been filmed a great deal while he was Yokozuna?

I have seen a couple of the vids you mentioned where Konishiki does most of the talking, but I guess I just figured it was because Konishiki loved to talk haha.
