This IS the July 2020 Basho thread!! Spoilers!!

I'm breathing a massive sigh of relief for takakeisho, even though it was the sloppiest KK ever, and got some very lucky rulings. (NSK was probably in panic mode to prevent losing sanayaku, so I can see how they may be a bit generous )

This IS the July 2020 Basho thread!! Spoilers!!

Here is a crazy stat. Today, 42 year old Tenichi beat 50 year old Hanakaze in their second meeting. Their first meeting occurred... 24 years ago! There 26 year old Hanakaze (then Tatsuyamaguchi) defeated 18 year old Tenichi. Who will win the decider in 2044?

    Retirees after Haru 2020

They fought six times against each other. pretty high amount by jonokuchi standards. Hattorizakura still has fierce rivals kyokushoriki and sawanofuji though.

    July basho?

Those fake noises are absolutely awful, I hope they don't do that for sumo.

Hanakaze as 1st rikishi in his 50s in ages

what will he even do after he retires? the ol' chanko restaurant thing? Wonder how much money he's made, considering he's never made it past sandanme it's probably not a lot. hope we get a match against hattorizakura before then though . looking quite likely these days.

    Sumo Reference Updates

Playoffs are missing for hatsu 2020. Also is there any easy way to search for tsukedashi? Always brings up an error when I try.

Talk sumo - social discourse for the locked down

Discord is not free software. It is non-free, closed source, and proprietary . A free software VoIP client would be something like Mumble.

    Basho attendance

Yes, but (assuming im reading the tables right) everyday of recent bashos has been in the top 20, whereas this one where a lot more people should be staying home and watching has half the days not even reach that.
  10. Yokozuna Hattorizakura

    Basho attendance

That looks pretty disappointing. You'd think more people would be watching due to being unable to attend, but it looks worse than usual.

So Sokokurai is not retiring? That's unexpected.

Promotion/Demotion and Yusho discussion Haru 2020

I feel that they will promote tobizaru over kotoeko precisely for this reason.

    Haru 2020 Basho Discussion (SPOILERS)

A dull end to a dull basho. at least we got a new ozeki to be happy about. This stupid virus better die by next basho. I can't stand this empty arena thing.

    Haru 2020 Basho Discussion (SPOILERS)

I too had mitakeumi over shodai. he's looking great so far, hoping his injury issues are gone and he returns to sanyaku where he belongs.

Yes I know. I meant perhaps a second time will do the trick.

    Banzuke for Haru 2020

Again they're punishing a high kyujo by promoting a weak high juryo kk. very annoying. hopefully kotonowaka wins the yusho and they learn their lesson

44th Fuji TV Grand Sumo Tournament

Where was this Takayasu during the honbasho?! So powerful. Maybe he is one of those guys who can't handle the pressure during a tournament? Hope he can turn this into a yusho win in the near future.

Kakuryu speaking English (oh and special Tokyo 2020 sumo announcement)

It's always pretty surreal hearing the wrestlers speak english. His voice is deeper than I thought. Are any of the sekitori fluent in english?
