    Takagenji Caught Smoking Weed

Well, other expulsions for criminal behaviour never made it to trial either, like Takatoriki, Kotomitsuki, Wakanoho, etc. It's not like this is vindicating him. In fact, when's the last time a rikishi actually did dragged in front of a judge?

    Hakuho intai raw overview

Kanechika, that oyakata who married into the job, ousted the incumbent Miyagino, rarely attended keiko, and eventually got fired after being arrested for assault.

    COVID-delayed oyakata danpatsu-shiki

Looks like he's shed plenty of weight already. This tweet has a more close-up photo.

Was that thumbnail meant as a hint?

That was the daintiest, most courteous, ashitori I've ever seen.

    Rikishi Status - 2021 Aki

Shishi looks like a very late withdrawal today. Not listed on the official site yet, but just gave a fusen-sho to Chiyootori.

    Most underrated/overlooked rikishi?

Musashimaru. Remarkably forgettable for a dai-yokozuna. Just because he wasn't the first foreign-born yokozuna, and his career peaked in between two all time greats in Takanohana and Asashoryu. Even now I forget the guy's still in sumo as an oyakata.

Aki Basho 2021 - Discussion Thread (Spoilers!)

Only Day 6 I know, but that's got to be some kind of variety - one of the co-leaders knocked off by a juyro visitor.

    Rikishi Status - 2021 Aki

He looked fuming after yesterday but not injured

    Rikishi Status - 2021 Aki

Hokutofuji has withdrawn. Knee injury, not fever. Takanosho will get the fusen.

    Yumitori-shiki rikishi news

The guy's 44 now, so I would be surprised.

    Hattorizakura (Shounanzakura)-intai

Even in his own retirement thread, the guy is easily overpowered.

    Hattorizakura (Shounanzakura)-intai

Now only Hanakaze is left of that trio of record holders that made the bottom divisions a little more colorful.

    Hattorizakura (Shounanzakura)-intai

Would've been nice to hear his new shikona called out in victory at least once, but oh well. I swear he's actually regressed a bit recently, so it's not that surprising to hear him say he's reached his limit.
  15. Damn. I remember him proudly holding a camcorder in the crowd during his son's 10-5 makuuchi debut. I seem to recall some Chris Sumo video that quoted an interview with him and he sounded really supportive and nurturing. And I mean supportive-supportive. Not "supportive" in the spartan sense, as often the case with sumo fathers. edit: here we go

    We're gonna sing!

Some of the gyojis probably could.

If only Gagamaru was still around.

    Terunofuji is the 73rd Yokozuna.

Extra pressure with his citizenship application to wait for. It feels like Kakuryu again.

    Takagenji Caught Smoking Weed

Seeya, kid. Your career was nothing to sneeze at, but to me you're always going to be that guy Terutsuyoshi threw over his shoulder.

    Terunofuji is the 73rd Yokozuna.

It's probably already been said elsewhere, but he's the first yokozuna since Onokuni in 1987 not to seal his promotion with a yusho. However, such is his performance ever since coming back to makuuchi, that it still sounds like the YDC consider it a no-brainer.

    Nagoya Basho 2021

I've found Hakuho tremendously entertaining this basho, if nothing else. It feels like it's been ages since he had this kind of boss presence. I'm inclined to look at everything through rose-tinted glasses right now, because Ichinojo's coming back to sanyaku. Yay. edit: Or not. Seiyashi's right. Takayasu had been looking good, I'd forgotten he was actually make-koshi.

    Nagoya Basho 2021

Shimpan are really keen to call out hairpulls this basho. Although, I think with that one even Ura sensed his hand was dangerous there, from that exaggerated "hands off" gesture he did afterwards. And no one told Hatooka to shave before his interview today?

Ura's experimental "handstand tachiai" went about as well as expected.

    Nagoya Basho 2021

Not to discount his achievement, but if Mitoryu slips into makuuchi, it'll feel like some kind of natural order being broken.
