He DID it inthe past...:) With a different set of knees of course... :(

During Terunofuji's bout I had the feeling that he is inpatient, seemed like he gave up some form and security for a quick win.

This IS the July 2020 Basho thread!! Spoilers!!

Looked like a (somewhat) clear Enho victory to me... -
Konnichiwa! As other European fans, I also enjoyed sumo many years ago, till Eurosport stopped to broadcast it. I now have a 7 yo daughter with whom I had a play-grapple and explained to her, what sumo is. One thing led to another, and for the last several months, we (the whole family with my wife) are following this great sport and tradition. (My daughter knows the Hatsu Banzuke (Makuuchi and Juryo) by heart... My Shikona is my daughter's invention. My favourite rikishi is Takayasu, and "Apa" means Father in Hungarian. So...hakkeyoi!

Just like Asanoyama did. Shame.

I really like the sumo Enho shows this basho. A see his technique improving towards a more "correct" sumo. I hope he will continue this way, thus reducing the risk of a severe injury.

Isten hozott :).

I cannot make heads or tails of it. Now he doesn't seem (to my untrained eyes) injured, knees and foot seem solid. Is this bad decisions and technique?
-
Today Takayasu took his painkillers, looked like he was alive. Good to see Tochinoshin back. Maybe the most powerful rikishi on the banzuke.

I thought that once a kadoban finishes with make-koshi, he loses the ózeki rank and that's all. Now i read on tachiai.org that : "The big news, of course, is that we lose one Ozeki (at least temporarily) and gain another. Tochinoshin (7-8) will be ranked Sekiwake at Natsu, with a one-time shot to regain his rank with 10 victories." Is it so? Is it official, or a custom, that finishing with a "yokozuna kachi-koshi", you get back to ózeki?

I know, but I’m a lazy guy AND a Hungarian, so I’ve got the ó right on my keyboard :)
-
Strange. Hakuhó semms to me the kind of guy who is pragmatic enough to go to a proper doctor and have hmself treated, whatever it takes. He certainly woudn't want to transform into a Kisenosato-like walking injury.
-
I feel really sorry for Tochinoshin. He put up a good fight, stood his ground against Kakuryu. I think if he were100% healthy, he would have lifted Kakuryu out, like in the good old times.
-
Not his former, dominant self, but much-much better than in the 1st week. Came too late though...sad.
-
And - for me - Nishikigi. Somehow I expected him to continue his dominant sumo in March. Didn't happen, but I hope he'll grow to a very successful rikishi.
-
You're right. I'm just _guessing_ what he'll do / wants to do, not what the Comitte will let him do.
-
He is _more_ agile than last year, that's for sure, but we won't see him doing a henka :). As for the big part, I recall Tochinoshin lifting him up. So there is big and there is strong. Let's discuss on day 8 ;)
-
I don't think so. The expression "yokozuna kachi-koshi" exists for a reason. 8-7 is enough for retiring with some dignity.
-
Kisenosato looked "as usual" these days -sadly. OK tachiai, some all right technique, but no power. Tha tanks are empty :(. Hard to predict from one day, but also hard to believe the he can overpower Ichinojo tomorrow...
