What other sports do you watch?

I could watch pretty much any sport as long as I have a rooting interest in it : local or favorite player/team, betting interest, storytelling, heavy underdog (Enho, Tokushoryu in Hatsu) ... I'd rather watch a random handball match with the French team than say an Liverpool-ManCity FA cup final, even if I prefer soccer to handball overall. Tho, my go to sports are baseball and soccer. Pro wrestling is fun to watch sometimes too.

    Yokozuna historic timeline

Personnally I did this on Excel, as Excel is my "go to" for pretty much anything. Some personal preferences into it (in case you find some weird/inacturate stuff). The purpose was to learn some sumo history as I'm a newbie, and to have an idea of how many Y/O where active on average per basho.

    Hakuho & the Olympics - a dilemma.

If that indeed happens, we are in far more trouble than just missing one event ...

    High School Banzuke 2019

Thanks so much for this Mikawa May I suggest that you include for each guy their 'class-year' (meaning 1st, 2nd or 3rd for Middle and High School, ...) ? If it doesn't require too much work anyway of course. Outside of the 3-4 amasumo experts here, I think it may help newbies like me to follow who is turning pro, going on with his life or on his way to top the next-year banzuke. Thanks again.

    New Juryo for Natsu 2020

That's hard for Kotodaigo, getting past by Chiyonoo despite a 4-3 from Ms2 and 2 wins against Juryo. Dunno if counts much, by he did lose to Chiyonoo on day 9. Better luck next time.

    Guys with fever-Haru 2020

For those who wonder, we had 2 fusen in Jonidan on day 2 : - Jd1w Tomiyutaka, 19yo from Tokitsukaze beya - Jd11e Taranami, 18yo from Tatsunami beya My money is on the basho going on.

    New recruits for Haru 2020

I see Davaaninj got a Japanese shusshin, he won't have to wait for Hakuho's retirement after all. And Sakamoto from unknown heya ? He's training on his own until he gets signed by a pro scout ;) ?

    Haru 2020 Basho Discussion (SPOILERS)

Dunno if it's the best place for this, but sumodb didnt catch the Sandanme torikumi for day 2. Is there a way to fix this ? Edit : saw it was reported in another thread.

    Corona and sumo

Holding the basho without public seems a reasonable solution. I'd go as far as letting only sekitori compete to have a meaningful basho with less risk of spreading the potential virus. The bottom of the banzuke stays still for Natsu. Or let the Ms1-Ms5 compete too as they are the more likely of promotion.

    Wakaichiro has retired

I'm counting 20 heya having a "foreigner spot" open (counting Sokokurai and Hakuho as a Japanese now) among the 45 active heya. Of course I may be wrong. 3 stables managed to have multiple foreigners : Tomozuna, Kasugano and now Michinoku.

    Wakaichiro has retired

There is still Colvin Ryuga Delzatto in low Jonidan/Jonokuchi, who isn't considered American either.
  15. In that case : Takakeisho YAsanoyama O Hokutofuji
  16. Takakeisho Y Terunofuji O1 Asanoyama Takayasu O2 Hokutofuji I'm going with the re-promotion of 2 former ozeki during 2021, along with Takakeisho taking the belt during 2020. I also hesitated to bring another Ozeki in, but 6 guys at the top seems a bit too much.

Turn The Tide - Banzuke Hatsu 2020

You could have gone kyujo after day 7 with a 'sore TTT decision making' but you decided to walk it off and fight on. Kudos!

Promotion/Demotion and Yusho discussion Hatsu 2020

He's listed at 100kg on Abema (via Miselet VK channel). The lightest rikishi above Makushita beside Enho.

    Hatsu 2020 Basho Discussion (SPOILERS)

The Good : Shodai using the exact good timing to send Takakeisho pushing the void and staying on top of the leaderboard. Shodai's smile while running back to the locker room was fun to watch. The bad : Aoiyama, what was that ? Your usual 2-hands-to-the-throat tachiai is what you do 99% of the time and you decide to go lean-forward-shoulder-blast against a guy known for his henka ? Have you ever heard about strategy and matchups ? Geez ... The ugly : The poor rikishis having to soldier up and compete with one leg, one arm or concused. Stayed motionless after falling on your head off the dohyo ? I suggest banging your head against 200kg men for the next 10 days, that will do wonders. Teared you UCL, MCL and/or whatever-CL ? Let's do multiple squats and try to push 200kg men for a week. The NFL is under the spotlights cause they don"t care about the health of their players, NSK says 'hold my beer'. /RantOver

    Hatsu 2020 Basho Discussion (SPOILERS)

I'm not the best at sumodb queries, but here is what I found : Makuuchi bout from J5, 366 occurrences, last time was in Kyushu 2015 Makuuchi bout from J6, 96 occurrences, last time was in Natsu 2011 Makuuchi bout from J7, 36 occurrences, last time was in Natsu 2011 Makuuchi bout from J8, 9 occurrences, last time was in Natsu 2011 also (I think we have a pattern here) 2011.05 9 J8w Fujiazuma 6-3 (9-6) okuridashi M13w Tokitenku 3-6 (8-7) Makuuchi bout from J11, 7 occurrences, last time was in 1933 Haven't find any bout from lower (I've done query up to J15). So here are your answer, I guess : J8 is the lowest for the modern era, but overall it went as far as J11.

    Hatsu 2020 Basho Discussion (SPOILERS)

The high makuuchi lineup this time seems a lot harder than the previous basho : Endo, Myogiryu, Hokutofuji, Mitakeumi ... that's a hell of appetizer. The matchups become far easier in the middle part : Tamawashi, Okinoumi, Shodai, Meisei, Enho (and Takarafuji if it goes this far). If they decide to stay active, our yokozuna and ozeki should get a few wins. Not that a 9-6 Kakuryu gives much hope for the futur.

Banzuke Surfing Hatsu 2020 (*new* 16th Wave)

Ok my friends, Dewanoryu trolled us all. But at least NSK gave him Hattorizakura to make sure we don't go berserk on this forum. @Wamahada congratz, you won the 1st leg of this wave.
