Promotion/Demotion and Yusho Talk, Natsu 2022

Not 100% certain about Hidenoumi. He might just slide over to j1e. That's rare but it did happen as recently as 2018 (Kyokutaisei).

Yup. We badly need a couple of convincing ozeki, but pushing guys who aren't up to the role isn't going to solve anything.

Takakeisho looks to be hurting. Hope it's nothing serious.

Was that the one Gōeidō self-destructed in? I suppose you could call it that, but I'm a glass half full kinda guy.

Just to say that the most compelling yusho I ever saw was an 11-4. Harumafuji coming back from a 2-3 start to win at Aki 2017.

Don't think we've had one of those since March 1997 so yup, come on Mita!

One year ago Sadanoumi was posting a 6-9 at juryo 6 and looked to be drifting quietly towards retirement. He deserves enormous credit for turning things around at his age. Loved Tamawashi's expression just now when Ichiyamamoto stepped out "Aww why'd you do that, I wanted to hit you some more!"

If we hit "reset" right now and produced a new banzuke based on how good the wrestlers have been over the last few basho, how would the sanyaku look? Here's my version: Y: Terunofuji O: Mitakeumi, Wakatakakage S: Hoshoryu, Kiribayama K: Daieisho, Takanosho

Promotion/Demotion and Yusho Talk, Natsu 2022

You should ask to speak to the manager an demand a refund while you're at it.

Promotion/Demotion and Yusho Talk, Natsu 2022

I have to disagree about Ishiura. His extra win in March meant that he was certain to keep his place in maku'uchi. So when he takes May out to recover fully he comes back in July in juryo, rather than makushita. It was a gamble with his long-term health admittedly, but that's not exactly unheard of in this game.

Thanks to Shodai and Tamawashi for the shokkiri bout. I thought they only did those on the regional tours.

Considering how all the ozeki are doing, and considering that this new torikumi committee seems to be living shaking things up, i wouldn't be surprised if most of the intra ozeki bouts wind up getting skipped. I can understand why they do this but skipping intra-ozeki matches is something I find really annoying. Ozeki are being effectively rewarded for doing badly. Yes Shodai, I'm looking at you.

March Madness (makushita) - May version

Looks like Oshoma v Kanzaki for the yusho. I am going with Oshoma as the prize of promotion might give him the edge in motivation. There you go Kitaharima, I've jinxed the pair of them for you mate!

Ideally, we should be able to visualise the talent profile of sumo as a pyramid, but it's looking more and more like an igloo.

    GTB Natsu 2022- Results!!

The logic in terms of over-promotion vs. under-demotion seems to have done a 180 since March. Just when you think you've got the game figured out it rears up and bites you on the bum. Cricket, Golf, Darts and Bowling work in much the same way in my experience. Sometimes you feel that someone on the banzuke committee has a sick sense of humour. "You see a pattern? Hmmm...let's see... How do you like your pattern now? Mwahahaha!"

49 here. Could go either way. Good top half, but fell apart lower down the list.

Include me in. I've been checking the db for about 5 years and it seems worse than ever (in terms of down time) at the moment.

Will also be remembered as the winner of the 9-man play-off for makushita in January last year,

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

He may also be the oldest-looking 21-year-old in human history. I bet he never gets ID'd... not that he would ever engage in any activity that requires ID, I hasten to add. All in all this was an excellent basho for up-and-comers with names beginning in "K". The four lower divisions went to Kinbozan, Kanzaki, Kotetsu and Kototebakari, all of whom looked impressive.

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

And now we are down to 3 unbeaten lads in the division, and two of them are from the same stable. Potential in-house play-off between Kotokenryu and Kototebakari? Called it!

Yup. And tomorrow he gets Hoshoryu who is battling to hold on to that rank.

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

Wakamotoharu has confounded my expectations. I thought his promotion would result in a classic "cup of coffee" stay in makuuchi but that's two kks now and he looks like he's going to stick around for afternoon tea. Meisei has been painful to watch this time. He doesn't seem to have any strappings or bandages but something must be very wrong.
