Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Very belated merry Christmas, happy/merry appropriate seasonable celebrations for those of other persuasions, and all the best in new 2016 for all to whom the new year comes on Jan 1. ;-)

    Kitanoumi kyokai funeral

Another source had the same idea as Naganoyama (Yamahbiki and his okamisan), so that sounds right.

    Kitanoumi kyokai funeral

Who is the lady who walked in the procession before the widow? (Hakkaku, some oyakata(?), the lady, the widow with the tablet, the sons with ashes and the photo). The photos made me tear up. Sniff.

A mystery? Can you solve it?

A mystery? Can you solve it?

I have to admit I was wondering the same... (I think there's a law, at least in EU, that if it says "strawberry" then it has to contain some fruit, else it can only be called "strawberry-flavoured"....)

    Mage for Mitakeumi

"Flick the forehead 'cause one has a new hairdo" thing was quite prevalent in my neck of woods, too - dunno if it's still. Don't know the deeper meaning if it has one. Maybe that ever fuzzy "for luck".

    Urgent help needed with photo!

I don't suppose any of this helps? (Not mine, unable to properly credit)
  8. Is the poll above what you had in mind?

    The Wall 2015 Edition

Actually, from what manga I read, no man would like to be called "princess". ;-)

Unable to edit profile info or avatar.

Yeah, avatar change not working for me, either. ps. The workaround by Nishinoshima (put it online and use the link) did the trick but bleh, direct upload to forum software doesn't work and I'm miffed.

    Oyakata gallery

"Oyakata" is also generally a boss or master. I vividly remember a scene from Kagemusha where distraught concubines surround their fallen lord and call him "oyakata-sama"...

    Asashoryu activities

The nitpicker in me always wants to point out that it's the nazi version that's the backward one. And since it's Friday, I can't be bothered to restrain her. :-P

This lurking had to stop! So hello there!

Nice to see someone from Finland - the founder of the Forum was Finnish, and so are current Rijicho and top admin. Welcome!

    Happy Birthday, Fay!

    Happy birthday!

    Aki jungyo 2015

Thanks to Akinomaki for oodles of info, pics and videos. It's interesting to see how in jungyo posters Hakuho is *the* yokozuna, with other two rarely even shown in tsuna. :-P

    Winter jungyo 2015

Indeed you can't start a thread there (but I think you should be able to answer in an already existing thread). What you can do is create a thread here and then contact a mod (me, let's say) and ask for it to be moved there. If found of general interest, it'll be moved. :-)

    Happy Birthday, Asashosakari!

    Happy birthday!

    Yokozuna grandsons

Naya has his dad's face. Poor him. ;-)

    Happy Birthday, Manekineko!

Thank you very much from far too muggy sea-side. I feel like I'm in Japan. ;-)

    Preparations of the masses-July 2015

Love the one with smoke rising from the shisho(?). :-D

    Preparations of the masses-July 2015

As long as their ~28 tons were distributed over several cars, I don't think the train noticed: Average Weight per Car: Approx. 43 tons (http://web-japan.org/atlas/technology/tec08.html)

Former Ozeki Takanonami has passed away

That deshi behind Takanohana (you can see him clearly in the last photo) seems deeply stricken...

    Preparations of the masses-July 2015

Some of those photos are pretty high quality/skilfully taken, which is unusual for keiko photos.

    Happy birthday Jakusotsu!

Ditto. It's still the same week, so it counts. :-P
