    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

Wow! What a bout that was! Props to Takakeisho for hanging in there way past his usual stamina limit, but Takayasu take a bow. The yusho is yours!

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

Hoshoryu feels the full weight of Ichinojo's attack. Literally. That looked uncomfortable.

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

Takayasu withstands the pressure and rejoins WTK in the lead! Not quite a two-horse race but they're two wins ahead of the chasers now.

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

I think just because his record this time was stop-start. Lost, won two, lost, won two, lost, won, lost, won three. These last three days have been his only streak, so he's slipped under the radar for me.

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

Shouuuuuuudai! (Am I using the 'u' correctly?) Manhandled Takakeisho with ease there, more or less dropping him out of the yusho race (unless he gets lucky with a 12-3) and putting himself with one of his own KK. Six wins on the bounce. Great comeback! Edit: Miscounted TK's record. Best he can get now is 11-4.

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

Ichinojo kachikoshi. He has quietly made his case for a komusubi return, being the highest-ranker with a KK at the moment. I've barely noticed him this basho.

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

Decent effort from Kotonowaka there, but Wakatakakage marches on. 11-1 and for now at least, sole leader. Pressure back on Takayasu. Koto now needs to win the next three days and hope other results go his way to get a 12-3 yusho, but 10-11 wins would be a great tournament for him wherever he finishes in the final order. Shodai tomorrow. Mitakeumi for WTK.

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

He and his stablemate brother to one day meet in a playoff for a yusho? That'd be fun.

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

Chiyonokuni was super chuffed to win after coming back from kyujo with his shoulder covered in tape. He avoids makekoshi with that to go 5-3-4. Kagayaki also fends off the makekoshi for another day, snapping a six-bout losing streak right on time. 5-7 with no margin for error over the next three days as he's (almost) right at the bottom of division. Tochinoshin's outside shot at the yusho comes to an end. He had to win out to finish up on 12-3 and hope that was enough, but he falls to 8-4.

Hehe. True. I just reassembled the letters for Wakatakakage: WTK.

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

And KTW drops to 9-2, one off the pace with Mitakeumi. Takakeisho clears the kadoban hurdle and is also technically in the yusho race at 8-3. That's two guys on 10-1, two on 9-2, two on 8-3. Good prospects for the final few days.

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

Incidentally, Tochinoshin is technically in the yusho race. He's on 8-3, two behind the leaders on 10-1.

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

Mitakeumi can thank WTK for that win, as his own victory over Abi moves him back within one of the lead, and he will surely get the chance to overturn that deficit in coming days. We only wait now to see if Kotonowaka joins him one off the pace, or beats Takekeisho to stay with WTK and Takayasu.

Shodai is in the black for the first time this basho.

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

Well, well. WTK moves into the shared lead.

Tochinoshin secures his first Makuuchi kachikoshi since November 2020 with a pretty amusing tsuridashi on Terutsuyoshi.

Possibly keeping Ozeki free to face the yusho-chasing pack at the weekend?
  18. Eikokurai

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

Okay. You phrased it like he has a history at Sanyaku level, that's all.
  19. Eikokurai

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

Hope he wins the next three straight so he's not fighting for his rank at the weekend.
  20. Eikokurai

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

This is his Sekiwake debut. He had one basho at Komusubi previously, which was a losing record, but not enough to identify any trends from. His numbers in the joi have been fine. Not spectacular, but kachikoshi.
  21. Eikokurai

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

Takakeisho wins a bout that lasts longer than five seconds.
  22. Eikokurai

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

Gah! Mitakeumi drops out of the immediate chasing pack, though with Wakatakakage facing each other tomorrow, it may not be that damaging. A WTK win would put him and Takayasu on 10-2, so if Mita beats Abi to go to 9-3, he's right back in it.
  23. Eikokurai

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

If he finishes with 13+ this time, one more 11-win basho should do it. He got 9-6 from M1 last time out. That's a solid foundation, especially if he manages to nick the yusho here (a big if).
  24. Eikokurai

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

Wakatakakage! He goes into tomorrow's crunch match with Takayasu with the chance to make it a three-way tie for the lead (and possibly four if Mitakeumi wins today).
  25. Eikokurai

    Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

And close to being tied for the lead! Takayasu hangs on though and pulls out the win against a very stubborn Hoshoryu.
