Hakuho Applying for Japanese Citizenship
WakaTakaFlame replied to WAKATAKE's topic in Ozumo Discussions
The governing structures are not the sport. The kyokai is not sumo in the same way FIFA is not soccer or the IOC is not every olympic sport. Sumo is what happens on the Dohyo and in the beyas. Soccer is what happens on the field. If being a Mongolian is good enough to be by far the best person to ever compete in this sport, it should be good enough to be an oyakata. And if there are structural issues preventing that, those structures should be changed. -

Hakuho Applying for Japanese Citizenship

Nationalism is bs to begin with, but who are the people in the Kyokai that they think they are to decide if Hakuho gets to be a sumo coach. He must have like twice as many yusho as the whole Kyokai board combined. None of them have ever been Dai Yokozuna. And none of them are in the conversation for best ever. -
Rikishi Status Natsu 2019 - Day 13 Returns/Withdraw

Cells get oxygen from the blood stream. It gets there through the lungs. And you have a higher concentration of oxygen in your lungs when the air that surrounds you has more oxygen (assuming you keep breathing). The question is more if more oxygen helps you with that kind of issue. -
It also probably happens very rarely because fighting a Kadoban Ozeki with 7 losses late in the tournament is *the* case where it's most likely that their opponent, especially a lower ranked one, will take a dive. Putting Takakeisho against Tochinoshin was not only dramatic, it also was a way to make sure both were actually trying to win.

Promotion/Demotion and Yusho discussion Haru 2018
WakaTakaFlame replied to Asashosakari's topic in Honbasho Talk
I'll summarize my thought on Takayasu Pro: - 2 yun-yushos back-to-back - Beat Kakuryu (only active Yokozuna) the last 2 tournaments - 7/11 tournaments in sanyaku with 10+ wins, 3/11 tournaments with 12-3 - Only had bad results when injured recently - Is Japanese Contra: - No yusho - Never more than 12 wins - Never really been in contention for the yusho I don't think a 12-3 yusho should be enough. But 14-1 would be okay, if he beats Hakuho and shows great sumo. If he goes 15-0 and beats Hakuho and Kakuryu, he'll get the rope. -
There's also a difference in rank. Goeido is an Ozeki, he's supposed to beat his opponent with technique, speed or power, especially a lower ranked rikishi. And Abi is pretty light with just 140 kg. The lighter guys like him, Ura, Ishiura or Harumafuji tend to get away with a little more "dirty" sumo because they are at a disadvantage against most opponents. It's just more interesting to give them some leeway than just let the big guys roll over them.

I think getting the dohyo on the ground would help, or makikg it wider, so that there is at least more room to fall on. Or make it less steep, so the fall is not as big unless you get pushed really far. I also think it would be hilarious if we just had water around the dohyo and if a rikishi falls off it, you'll get a huge splash. The concussion-stuff is pretty hard to fix. I think they should just try banning headbutts, maybe not at the basho at first but give it a try a little lower down the ranks or at a one day tournament or something, and see how it works out. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work but there's no reason not to try it.

Drugs actually might actually make that harder. You can´t be doping all year. You have to do it in cycles and you peak at certain times. I don´t know if you can keep yourself at that level of performance for 3x23 days over the course of 4 or 5 months. Especially when most of the competition is only focussing on one tour. I don´t know how long the cycles are and they probably vary, so maybe that can be worked out but it´s at least something to consider.
