Haha. He’s a personal favourite but I fear his best days are behind him.

Agreed, I'm currently just hoping I'll make it to a basho in time to see him before he retires. Anyway, I'm hoping he'll put up at least a 9/6 as its Kyushu, and i don't think he wants to meet Toyonoshima again after all this time down in Juryo (Laughing...)

Yeah, I was joking about the Geek. :)

    Aw :(

I was hoping I'd found another believer in the wild (Laughing...) Tbh when he first dropped into the rank and file I thought he'd fall further than he did and have a genuine chance at being a yusho contender from the bottom. Less so now for sure though...

  5. 2 hours ago, Eikokurai said:

or even surprise return to form from Giku-san

He's my favourite so I'm definitely hoping he'll show a return to form this time round, but alas, I think the yusho may be out of his grasp. If he was down at a super low rank like Yoshikaze was last basho, then maybe, but after an MK at M8...

Personally I fancy one of the Ozeki's this time too, though I don't know if I can pick between them... with Kise for the Jun-yusho and I think Ichinojo is my wild card bet

I look forward to being totally and completely wrong though, as always!

How to configure a VPN to watch NHK and Abema

The easiest way to do this is to use a service like NordVPN, Express or PIA, you have to pay obviously, but personally I think its worth it. I use PIA myself, its cheap and fast. When it comes to connecting, all you do is select Japan from the drop down menu, while installation was the same as installing any other program in my experience.

Some of the free services are really dodgy, for example Hola was found to be using its free users as exit nodes for paying customers, meaning it would be theoretically possible for someone to have been falsely implicated by someone using the service for any kind of dodgy business, amongst a lot of other negatives.

Another member here may be able to recommend a good free VPN, but if you worry about your data at all I wouldn't really recommend it, as the free services will most likely log and sell it (got to make up for that service being free somehow after all)

Komusubi Kaisei injured his left calf area yesterday. It happened today at degeiko at Kasugano beya. After training for an hour, he did some butsugari and was injured then. There is a chance of a pulled or even a tron muscle,  hanging dark clouds over his Kyushu entry. "It's the worst.." he muttered. He put some ice on it, but could not walk on his own and had to be assisted by two people to go to receive treatment

Ah man, that really sucks, I was hopeful that he'd kk at this rank too as I thought he was looking good this year :(

Here's hoping for a swift and solid recovery for him

  8. Overall, I'm thinking pretty positive here, I just don't think that Mitakeumi will get 12 and I don't think 11 will be enough with Kise looking like the strongest Yokozuna this basho, if Kak does enter and Mitakeumi does beat him (and Kise) in that 11, well then maybe that'd be another story. Buuuuut I have my doubts even though I do think he will make Ozeki one day, if he goes 11 and loses to other Ozeki and the Yoks then I don't think it'll be enough this time around, he could start another run though :-P

  9. I thought he might only rack up 5 in the last basho, but I was pleased to see he looked pretty good - I think he's definitely got enough in him for another 6 this time round. Fingers crossed anyway! I could see him challenging for the yusho even, well I hope we'll see that at least... :)

He'll probably be back, Miselet Plus itself was already the second channel after all. The question is if the next one will last this long again, now that he's on their radar.

Did they monetise their videos? I do subscribe to the channel, but I have a very strong ad-blocking regime on my browser, so I can never tell. I imagine if the videos were/will be monetised, then that blip on their radar will be much larger

I don't see the problem with Number 6 . This is what started the whole thing.  You're not the other guy's Oyakata, even though you're a Yokozuna.  Don't punish or try to take the law into your own hands, it's not under your jurisdiction, even if it feels like it is.. That's  what  the Oyakata is there for.  The fact that some of the Oyakata are not doing their jobs- well,  that's another  story.

I imagine that kind of rule would also help avoid yaocho accusations and the like as well, either way, I think it makes a lot of sense even if its a bit sad that they can't all hang out together after the basho

  12. 1 hour ago, Bumpkin said:

Jason (of YouTube) is not on sumoforum. Although, it would be great if he would join.

Oh yeah I know, I'm a fan really, although I don't follow his videos as much now as I want to see as many matches as possible whenever the basho is on, his footage/commentary is what got me hooked on sumo in the first place. I was recovering from an accident and watched a load of his playlists back to back just after I had read about Kisenosato's promotion, which was when I'd first really ever even heard about sumo (really owning up to my noob status here!). I think I watched maybe 12 basho in a row or something as I had a lot of time to kill (Laughing...)  I still go back between bashos and watch his old playlists every now and again in fact

Still even though he's really popular on youtube, I never see his videos mentioned here, I can kind of see why that is as his coverage is not as indepth as that provided by many of the members here (I know I started reading the forum more as I found I wanted more than I felt he could provide, both footage and analysis). And maybe its just that as I'm new, I've missed things from before

Is the other guy, Chris, on the forum? It seems like he's one of the most prolific youtube sumo people now, at least that I've noticed thanks to my youtube recommendations (if there are any more out there I'd love to know about them). I guess really I was just wondering why his content doesn't show up on the forum to be discussed much, and whether its worth checking out.

Anyway, apologies for going so off the topic of this thread!

  13. 7 hours ago, Chankomafuji said:

He's a long time sumo fan providing commentary since about January this year. And because of the good feedback on his early videos he keeps on doing it and gains deserved popularity. Some of the reasons for this are that he is trying to be unbiased (I say trying, because there is always some bias in sumo) and above all he actually speaks English.

I guess what I was mainly wondering about is why I've never seen him pop up here before for exactly those reasons, I suppose its similar to me being a bit curious as to why Jason is almost never mentioned as well

  14. 11 hours ago, Otokonoyama said:

This guy has suddenly started filling up my youtube recommendations, but this is the first time I've seen him mentioned on here, maybe I'm exposing my sumo-newcomer status here, but who is he?

I'm surprised I haven't seen him pop up before as he seems to be one of the most active sumo commentators on youtube (that I've seen, and in English at least, I get some Japanese recommendations but don't subscribe to that many channels as I don't speak Japanese).
