And now I see you wrote 2 more as Ozeki but I can't go back and edit my post (misunderstood at first). In that scenario i think he definitely could be promoted
-
In that scenario Tochinoshin would have 2 tournaments at Sekiwake and then only 1 at Ozeki, I feel like he would definitely need another Yusho at Ozeki before they would possibly promote him. I could be wrong and perhaps others know a couple scenarios where it happened
-
His matches always seem exciting for some reason, and as a casual observer with an untrained eye its always very entertaining. Definitely look forward to his bouts each day
-
Yeah, seems like we go through this every tournament nowadays. Goeidou usually starts off strong and we all start thinking perhaps he has turned a corner, then he comes back to earth with a few questionable losses and we end up back at square 1.
-
I agree with this mostly. If he wins in March i'd say he's Ozeki for sure, but not sure if he somehow would win 3 in a row if that would get him to Yokozuna...that would only be one basho at Ozeki...I am unaware of any kind of precedent where this happened in the past.
-
Could have another wide open basho if Hakuho sits out, again at least 5 or so guys you could point to with a real chance. 2 months seems like an eternity, can't wait til March!
-
At this rate it is definitely Kakuryu's to lose. 15-0 seems extremely possible (hard for me to imagine who will defeat him at this rate barring an injury flare up or Yoshikaze / Hakuho type matchup from last basho), his sumo has been extremely solid so far. Tochinoshin also looks like he will be hard to stop and could be the bad luck runner up at 14-1. Just a case of the unstoppable meeting the immovable, one of them had to lose their matchup.
-
Yeah hakuho definitely dislikes that guy, lol
-
Well if he doesn't hesitate he can raise up from that Tachiai and head straight to Georgia :)

I remember over one holiday season many years ago my mother actually broke her toe when a glass A1 Steak sauce bottle fell off a shelf and hit her small toe. At the time i thought it was ridiculous, but to this day she still has some pain in that toe. While she isn't a world class athlete, certain injuries can linger even after they "heal" and cause issues.
-
Yeah, hopefully only his pride is hurt. Never want to see injuries
-
Yeah those types of injuries are scary, body just giving out and unable to support his movement. Could also tell Shodai knew something was wrong too, not your normal slippiotoshi
-
Yeah like I mentioned earlier, Kisenosato losing his 3rd bout already is not encouraging and almost a worst case scenario, especially to a couple rank and filers. If this was Kakuryu the calls for retirement would be overwhelming, does this performance put Kisenosato on a make or break basho next time, or is his time already running out and if he gives up another gold star that's it?
-
Also on another note, have some really intriguing matchups coming up here on day 4. Definitely looking forward to seeing Tochinoshin vs Takayasu, two guys who have looked strong so far so should be a great bout. Also looking forward to seeing if Ichinojo can come out with the same fire against Kakuryu as he showed yesterday. Goeido vs Hokutofuji should also be fun as well as Kisenosato vs Kotoshogiku (what a thing it would be if Kisenosato lost his 3 bout in 4 days). Should be a great round

Course he hasn't had a chance to really bump the lower ranks just yet, he has had to face both Ozeki and a sekiwake in his first 3 matches. Course still has the Yokozuna ahead, but I think he should be ok in matches against the likes of Yoshikaze, Shodai, Okinoumi etc assuming he faces some of those guys in later rounds. Feels a lot like the tournament from tochinoshin back in September and Tochiozan in November. They were M1 and M2 respectively and had to face all of the top guys the first week, can be very tough since you are really not favored in your first 5-6 matches and by most accounts "should" lose them to the higher ranked opponents.
