I hoped, they wouldn't. AvJun-Yusho and a 12:3 are weak. But the need, to present a Yokozuna was to big, I guess.
-
I would adopt Ura.

I wasn't allowed to open a thread in the Sumo Information-Forum, so I'll do it here. I didn't find any thread about art related to sumo (woodprints, statues etc,) and think, this is missing. I'll start with an slightly older painting of mine.

Since the Jungyo 1995 in Paris on Eurosport - same as with many others here, I guess.

Please don't.

I will miss owls, lousy games with words, the sweeping half time shows that Motemakura mentioned and I will keep fond memories of font day... A musician from Israel was for many years my lifeline to sumo. An incredible story made possible by the internet. Thank you so much for your work. Even if video quality will improve, your comments wil be missed. תודה

In past days butter wasn't that hard, but nowadays it is harder due to feeding cows soy. If one insists on eating butter judtget it out of the fridge an hour befor breakfast.

March 16, ME 2, Sekiwake He is not the next big thing. He will establish in Makuuchi, maybe reach sanyaku once in a while but won't be the big japanese hope to arise.

Terunofuji Y Harunafuji Hakuho Y Kakuryu Kisenosato O Kotoshogiku

I would oppose. The older I get, the more do I chose my teams rather by mind than by heart. If I'd ever move to Israel I'd sure become fan of Hapoel Tel Aviv - just because of the political views of the fans. I diapprove my soccer team's sponsors over the last years an have lost sympathies for them, though I am hoping for better times. You actually CAN choose.

Right. Complaining about spelling mistakes in an international forum isn't helpfull at all. I for example am German, Motis is Israeli and we even have Monglians around here. Concerning the thread-question: I guess it is hard to find real differences without excellent insider knowledge. There sholud be nothing like a progressive left wing fair trade heya around, I am afraid. ;-) And, as mentioned, many heyas don't even have a sekitori. And a heya with 3 or 4 Sektiori (Makuuchi or Juryo ranked rikishi) can be without any sekitori 5 years from now. Much easier to find out about are the individual style and manners of a rikishi: Is he doing henka? Is he giving extra shoves? Does he use grips that can hurt a guys elbow? Though he has an arrogant appeal, Kisenosato i.e. is a very fair acting rikishi. An other example comig to my mind is Aoiyama - though both certainly don't do very exciting sumo. Ichinojo will never do a henka as well - he just isn't fast enough.

Good decision by the commitee.

Outstanding Basho, outstanding half time breaks, great work of Moti and Tenshinhan (though I prefer Kuririn...) Thank you so much guys for the time and work!

I've had Bruce Willis, Telly Savalas and Meg Ryan, but Kingsley is a first. A mixture of George Clooney and Brad Pitt, I'd say.

It is rather a vague impression than a true believe, but considering the number of participating Europeans, 2 Ozeki by now is a lot. Mongolia has only 3 Million inhabitants, Europe about 750 Million. If Northern Americans, Polynesians, Europeans, Africans would start participating in Ozumo, hardly any Japanese sekitori would remain.
-
It seems, the NSK is avoiding a trip to Europe. Raising the interest in watching sumo outside - okay, but it seems, they don't want to fire the interest of Europeans to actually practise sumo and to participate in Ozumo sooner or later, setting the chances of any japanese sumotori to nearly zero, to ever win a Honbasho again.

13:2 is normlly enough to gain a yusho, 12:3 is not. Consideringthat, Terunofuji should need 14 victories and the Yusho next Basho, to make it to Yokozuna. But if he stays unhurt, it should be only a question of time. After Asashoryu came Hakuho and Terunofuji could be Hakuho's successor.
-
Kakuryu should be reprimanded for his use of Henka. Though it is legal it is in no way a legit thing to do for a Yokozuna. (Don't know if the fine difference between legal and legit, that work's in German, works in English too.) It is okay for a hurted Maegashira or an old rikishi + 35 to do once in a while, but it is a disgrace to the Yokozuna-rank. Doing no Henka is not about rules but about sportmanship and fair play.

I started watching sumo with Takanonami and Akebono as Yokozunae. Takanonami was a great fighter with strong opponents like Akebono and Musashimaru and he was behaving like a Yokozuna and honoring his rank. On the other hand he didn't have to face Wakanohana, Takanonami, Akinoshima, Takatoriki - making it easier for him to reach his results. Asashoryu may have been the most talented Rikishi I ever saw, but he hindered himself with his arrogance - inside and outside the dohyo. Hakuho has become arrogant in his older years, giving extrashoves and behaving like a jerk, but his sumo has always been brilliant and he gained more victories than any other. And his behaviour in his earlier years has not to be criticized. By now I'd say, Hakuho is the greatest Yokozuna I ever witnessed - but he may destroy this, if he keeps behaving like he did recently.

The Tower of Power has crumbled. Not really a big suprise, but a sad sad day. :( One of his typical bouts versus his arch enemy Musashimaru (though he lost that one) from the tournament, that started it all for me:
