Why didn't I think of that Jedi-level analysis?

AND ... HE DID IT! 4-2 at Jk2 will definitely put him into Jonidan. Now he can start getting fitted for those nice Sandanme slippers.
  3. Yeah, well, he's been out of the rikishi ranks for 30 years (and had the class to retire when he fell ill). Kakuryu, who has finished 8 of his last 20 basho, is allegedly still active; John puts him in a sentence with another ex-Yokozuna, as if it's a "where are they now?" column. Please understand, I have absolutely nothing against John, it just tells you how quickly Kakuryu made it to the past tense.
  4. "even if they take the final step and earn the white rope, we’ll have yokozuna akin to Asahifuji or Kakuryu at best." "Geez, John, Kakuryu's standing right over there ... "

Mr. Pricklypomegranate, your legal theory is quite unusual, but I'm going to allow it.

Videos (all days) - Aki 2020

Well, more like ~2010, but yeah. Of all the rikishi in the last X years, Osh is the guy that looked like he was going to shower up after his bout and take Cameron Diaz out for a spin in his Jag.

Jeez, Asanoyama could still win this. If he still has Takakeisho and Shodai, and beats them, he's tied with them. The lower-rankers face each other, so one of them is gone. If that winner loses , too, we have a four-way playoff scenario.

Don't post this in Ridiculous Predictions. We have standards over there.

Sorry if I seemed to blame you. It was a general rant; you just posted the fodder.

That's funny, because many people only see an Ozeki as being "on his way to Yokozuna". But Ozeki aren't Junior Yokzuna, Yokozuna are Senior Ozeki. If Ozeki are defined as "guys who are in the hunt every basho, and pick up a Yusho here and there" and satisfy the "Ozeki kachi-koshi" of 10 wins, then what's the problem with Asanoyama? Over the last 7 basho, starting at M8, he's had 6 double digit basho, one Yusho and two Jun-Yusho. Is he going to stall at Ozeki, like Kaio and Kotooshu? I don't know, but that's not a bad career. I think he'll make it to Yokozuna barring injury, and I think he's being a little Kiso-esque at times, but I've got no issues with his record.

Personally, each match I look for possible evidence that he had a slippiotoshi on his own salt shower. Heh, heh.

This is SumoForum. To the extent that we try to stay pure to Ozumo, you should have a five-basho back and forth between Ms10 and J13 before you start climbing to Makuuchi. However, in reality you get promoted by posting more, so even an irritating goober like me can be a Sekiwake. Incidentally, this post puts me one closer to Ozeki; I'm pondering my 4-shikona manifesto even as we speak ...

It sounds better in the Google Translate version, but you've got the basic story here.

Aw, come on, what about Iwata, who fought his way up to Jk2 without ever going katchikoshi in 6 basho, and at 3-2 he may yet rocket into the Elysian fields of lower Jonidan.

The foot inside the ring was OK; it was the foot outside the ring that was problematic. It looked to me that Daieisho hit the ground at the same time that Shodai's foot crossed the plane of the dohyo -- that is, if there had been an extension of the dohyo, they would have hit ground together. This is not the first time this has been rendered a torinaoshi, not by far.

I saw that, too, with much trepidation. As Tolkien would say, Nírnaeth Arnoediad, the Battle of Unnumbered Tears.

    Aki talkie

I have a semiserious question: with the torikumi written the way it is, how could a rikishi take it two bouts at a time?

... which tells one that rikishi in this situation really are injured, and they're still not tiptop when they re-enter. I assume an oyakata could force a wrestler to go kyujo for the first y days because of a heya infraction, but it's the only reason I can think of that a rikishi could come back from several days off and still be a star on the dohyo.

    Ridiculous Predictions September Basho

Yes, or like those wonderful old bowling-over-the-gyoji shots Kintamayama is using for his Basho video covers. I think I'd buy a framed 14 X 11 of this one for my den.
