In Mitakeumi's case it might be this, you said that type of training doesn't work, i say it does work in any sport including sumo. Things just got confusing on the hypothetically-speaking of Mitakeumi being weak in training or training his weakness. Final word: Going full on in training isn't always the best option and letting sparring partners exploit your weakness works.

2018 Nagoya - THE UNDERDOG GAME (TUG) - ENTRY, TORIKUMI, STANDINGS

Got 0 points on six days and missed 2 days, still managed a good record i guess. Thanks for the game! -
About Kisenosato, he has to enter next basho right ?
-
Agreed. That's the point i tried to make, Mitakeumi doing "bad" in training isn't a bad thing. Sumo is a sport like any other but no other sport is like sumo. Doing calculated training works, reckless training and going all out doesn't, don't confuse that with training hard. I wonder why so many rikishi are injuried...
-
Gotcha. That type of training is the exception, most fighters only want to improve what their good at. The great majority of fighters do go all out in training but there's something called overtraining that sports didn't take serious until recently. Over the years, the fighters that adapted to how much and how hard you should train got the better results. It's sumo we're talking anyway so it's not like any other sport(not saying that sumo is only a sport by any means). What benefits the fighter more: only upgrading what you're good at or ugrading what you're bad at ? The point is, if Mitakeumi is only working on his weakness, looking weak in training but is looking good on the basho, his training method works.

I'm sure i voted for Asanoyama, there's a lot of picks for Meisei, could there be an error ? If not i must've missclicked it. -
That is actually pretty common in combat sports, Muhammad Ali let his sparring partners exploit his weakness so he could get better at them. It worked for him and looks like it's working for Mitakeumi.
-
Sad to see Chiyonokuni getting injuried again, hope it wasnt that bad and he can continue to do good sumo.
-
Torinaoshi was the right decision, Takayasu did not win that bout. Well that just makes the yusho race more exciting... right ?
-
In the worst way possible, yes, TAKAYASU!
-
Just let me dream for an underdog yusho

Endo, Mitakeumi and Asanoyama. Three different crops of new generation promises from almost exactly 2 years apart each(Endo debuted in maegashira at Aki 2013, Mitakeumi Kyushu 2015 and Asanoyama at Aki 2017) are doing great this basho, nice to see how all of it is unfolding. Endo is 3\3 against Mitakeumi and is 2\0 against Asanoyama, Mitakeumi and Asanoyama have yet to meet. How crazy would it be if a 3-way playoff between them happened?

Finally getting my rythm back and getting to the top 10. This basho is making this game so fun! -
Also its not about only numbers, its about performances.
-
There should be a mixture of both, for you to be an ozeki for long time you need to perform like it, but if you put your body on the line too much for a chance to be a Yokozuna. Reaching potential and staying healthy is the goal for an Ozeki i think. At no point at all an Ozeki should only be thinking about maintaining a salary and using mk/kadoban/kk, that goes against sumo imo.
-
Honestly this is being a good basho imo in terms of suspense and anticipation. We surely will see the young and old guys hungry for the yusho so some stars might start to shine or get a spark back. Mitakeumi leading the wave undefeated while Endo, Tochinoshin, Myogiryu, Asanoyama and Chiotairyu at 5-1. Goeido and Takayasu at 4-2. Again, new rikishi and old might catch a glimpse of light in the end of the tunnel through this basho. Last 5 days should be great!
-
His sekiwake run was actually better than his ozeki run if you dont mention the 15-0 yusho. He only had three 10+wins as an ozeki in 24 basho, the yusho, a 12-3 and 11-4 when he lost the yusho to harumafuji, underwhelming to say the least. He is mentally weak clearly, i think he got comfortable when he reached ozeki. It may be good for him to get some fire back if he loses the rank or he'll just retire, anyways i think he reached his maximum potential and keeping him as an ozeki will be a waste of time. And then he wins the yusho and i look like a dumbass :(
-
Chiyonkuni is the most spirited rikishi i've ever seen, there's no quitting in him. The real meaning of putting your body on the line.
-
Takayasu looking shaky and out of shape... zuna run ? Will Goeido lose the Ozeki rank ? That would be a bummer for his fans but i feel like he is over the hill and no longer can perform the way an Ozeki does. Always doing fine in training but he doesn't show up when it's on for real. If Hakuho let's a good yotsu-zumo rikishi get to him like Tamawashi got the morozashi, he won't get away with it easily. Seems like a good time for Mitakeumi and Shodai to level up and get a good 12-3 record or a great performance, the flower must bloom... right ? All i hope for is a close and competitive basho, hopefully between Tochinoshin and Kakuryu.

Thought the first day would be today because it said july 8th, well it was july 7th here yesterday hahahaha Sorry Achi, i'll keep consistent on this and the next basho's. -
Sending positivity to Kise, he needs it. If he comes back strong next basho i'll shed tears. Ganbare!
-
He is pushing the limits of his rehabilitation like he should've done since the injury, good for him now we will see at least a decent Kise i hope. He can only be forced to retire afther the 8° kyujo right ? This is his eighth so why fight when he can play by the book and show up next basho.
-
Didn't know she was "famous" outside of Gaki no Tsukai, is the show big in japan ?
-
It's gonna be France\Uruguai vs Brazil\England in the final, hopefully Uruguai vs Brazil. It's been a good world cup, it's the fifth i've watched since im from 1996, 2002 was my first and i did the Ronaldo haircut. Good luck to France though, great team even without Benzema they showed M'bape is the new kid on the block.
