  2. I had Kotonowaka, but changed it to Shodai when I saw that having Shodai would mean doing an OvS later. After all I learned about this shimpan group it was stupid to do, since it is readily apparent they don't think about such things. 10. Takakeisho.
  3. 9 Shodai Though it's not the only way to complete the sanyaku slate fully. @Sumo Spiffy could easily be right with Kotonowaka.

Aiming to have up to date standings later today. Day 7 torikumi Sanyaku 1: Midorifuji (vs Takakeisho) 2: Shodai (vs Ura) 3: Tobizaru (vs Wakatakakage) 3: Wakamotoharu (vs Hoshoryu) 5: Daieisho (vs Takayasu) 1: Tamawashi (vs Kotonowaka) M1-M8 1: Midorifuji (vs Takakeisho) 2: Shodai (vs Ura) 3: Wakamotoharu (vs Hoshoryu) 5: Daieisho (vs Takayasu) 1: Tamawashi (vs Kotonowaka) 4: Ichinojo (vs Meisei) 3: Ryuden (vs Hokutofuji) 1: Myogiryu (vs Nishikigi) 1: Abi (vs Takarafuji) M9+ 1: Abi (vs Takarafuji) 1: Kotoshoho (vs Takanosho) 4: Chiyotairyu (vs Aoiyama) 6: Chiyoshoma (vs Kotoeko) 1: Onosho (vs Kagayaki) 1: HIdenoumi (vs Oho) 1: Terutsuyoshi (vs Ichiyamamoto)
  9. I almost put Mitakeumi. I was afraid that they were not sensible enough to do the right thing. Then I thought `they can't be that bad' and went with Takayasu. It turns out that this group has even less of a clue than I thought.
  10. Yes, I was thinking along these lines (Haru 2019 with 2Y/3O all active was the last I could find that did it that way.)

Day 6 torikumi Sanyaku 1: Shodai (vs Midorifuji) 7: Ura (vs Takakeisho) 11: Mitakeumi (vs Takayasu) 1: Daieisho (vs Hoshoryu) 4: Tamawashi (vs Kiribayama) M1-M8 1: Shodai (vs Midorifuji) 7: Ura (vs Takakeisho) 11: Mitakeumi (vs Takayasu) 2: Nishikifuji (vs Myogiryu) 2: Nishikigi (vs Takarafuji) M9+ 2: Chiyoshoma (vs Takanosho) 1: Aoiyama (vs Kotoeko) 2: Terutusyoshi (vs Oho) 2: Mitoryu (vs Ichiyamamoto) 1: Kagayki (vs Hiradoumi)
  12. Tamawashi is a terrible choice for Day 6, which is why I picked it. I have no faith in this group of torikumi makers to think ahead. If they go with the final four round robin then they now have no other match-up for one of the days 13 through 15. Of course, they could be planning not to do the final four round robin.
  13. I would argue that the pattern was normal on Day 4.

Is six the smallest possible sanyaku?

I would feel like the tradition of the kore yori san-yaku might look better with all 6 of the sanyaku rikishi participating, but we wouldn't know for sure until it happened.

Is six the smallest possible sanyaku?

15 would be the number for a 6-rikishi sanyaku with no absences or intra-heya matches. If they went with OvO, SvS and KvK for the final three matches on Day 15, then there would be two days without an intra-sanyaku match. Would days 1 and 2 miss out or would they start Day 1 with and OvK and then have days 2 and 3 miss out or something else?
  16. There could be issues later on with them doing Mitakeumi vs Tobizaru now, though they still can work around that one. I don't trust them to do the right thing. 6. Tamawashi
  17. Not necessarily. The priority for scheduling only follows that system for Sanyaku on certain days. See the Ozeki on Day 4 of this basho for an example.

  21. So, I can see a number of reasonable ways they can now move forward. This isn't what I would do in the same situation but I'm guessing that they'll go with 5. Daieisho
  22. I thought that Kiribayama v Tobizaru and Tamawashi v Daieisho was the only reasonable choice for Day 4 based off of ususal torikumi making. It's Day 5 for me that has at least three reasonable choices.
