I just wanted to share some newbie thoughts on playing for the first time. First off, not matter how badly I did, I enjoyed myself. GTB was my first game. As someone with a mathematics background I find this an interesting challenge. Trying to discover the mathematical rules for myself as to how promotion and demotion works is something I'm looking forward to. The human factor is more problematic. RotoSumo was my best result, finishing 11th overall. I like the pre-basho format because I have more time to think. The daily games were difficult (though I still want to do Bench next time). I played TUG and TTT and did poorly in both. I also did GKA, which I had a better performance in. Previously, my basho watching was waiting for the NHK World highlights to come on. Given the time zone I was in, the highlights for the previous day would come on just 2.5 hours before the start of the next day's Makuuchi bouts. However, for the daily games I would need to submit my picks well before that time. I couldn't watch the bouts live because I was in bed, so I had to watch them the next day (Thanks Kinta!). Unfortunately, even though I work from home I still have to do that work so I couldn't devote as much time as I would like on my picks. After watching the video I would have to make some picks. Usually, they were just guesses. There was no time for analysis by looking at the head to head, for example. Any time I could spare was spent looking at the W-L matrix to try and work out my guess for GKA. In summary, games are fun, but daily games are difficult due to time constraints.

Do you really mean the January 2017 banzuke? Anyway, East M7

I love winter sports. The Winter Olympics is my favourite competition. Though some of the sports are a bit bizarre. Ski Jumping - Let's throw myself off a big hill on wooden planks... Luge - Let's slide down a twisty, dangerous tube on my backside on a tea tray and do it incredibly quickly...
-
I think the overall performance was so bad, 2 wins were added to everyone to try and create a balanced banzuke that reflects how everyone did against each other.
-
Sorry to ask this here, but I can't get hold of you because your inbox is full. I was wondering if I could be added to Bench Suo for next basho.
-
I think after Aki, they were 2nd 3rd and 4th, but their performances in the last basho were better so they dropped down.

Even with natural house elf skills there is no way Dobby gets beyond Sandanme.

The same people keep appearing in that video. No surprise though :)

Since one hasn't been started yet. I've been trying to catch it live, but the streaming is terrible for me at the moment. Post live thoughts here :) EDIT - Just noticed that Ichinojo lost. I only know by the text. Since I have to wait for videos (or NHK highlights), how did he look?

2016 Kyushu - THE UNDERDOG GAME (TUG) - ENTRY, TORIKUMI, STANDINGS
Sakura replied to Achiyama's topic in Sumo Games
I'm surprised I managed to get to 5 to be honest. -
It was on-demand day of for me. But then I'm so far behind Japan in Time Zone, the Juryo bouts for the next day were going on just as I was able to sit down and watch.
-
When I've been unable to watch the highlights live, I went with this option. It was great. i didn't realise that they hadn't done it before.
-
Even though I didn't play, I followed this game closely. It was interesting to check the results at the end of each day. I was intrigued as to how you'd deal with the crowded top of the banzuke. I look forward to following along (and hopfully playing) next time.

It works just using S.

Games Talk Kyushu 2016 - spoiler advisory: explicit postings
Sakura replied to kuroimori's topic in Sumo Games
Not a bad first RotoSumo for me finishing 11th. My daily games results were abysmal. :) -
Do you think Sakamoto would go 8-7 in Juryo? Some thoughts: Kakuryu. Not surprised he had a good basho. Hakuho still injured. I put too much faith in returning injured people on my RotoSumo guess and he was one of them. Harumafuji - most disappointing performance for me. I expected more from him. Kisenesato - Nice surprise. Didn't think he'd beat all 3 Yokozuna. Pity he had those other losses. Goeido - Great start, I feel like his quality (or motivation) dropped after losing to Kisenesato. Endo - Disappointing that he couldn't get over the hump and get the KK. Especially since he faced a few lower ranked (than him) Maegashira.
-
That's what I posted in a different thread. No idea how to quote across threads... I didn't know whether he'd win the Yusho, but I saw him (Kakuryu) being there or there abouts. I don't know why I didn't pick him for RotoSumo
-
Wait, did I do well enough to get an award with 9 other people That was fun and tough. I made a mistake not picking Harumafuji when I knew it would be him. And I chose Takanoiwa as a gamble over Ikioi. I can't feel bad about not getting the other guesses though. In the second half I spent ages each day staring at the W-L matrix trying to work out what they would do with Ishiura and how that would affect everyone else.
-
I never said he was a sure loser. It's just that my expectations for Kisenesato are low enough that losing to Tochinoshin after beaten the 4 top ranked guys in a row was not remotely surprising to me. If it were Goeido that had just beaten three Yokozuna like that then my expectations would have been that he would have beaten Tochinoshin as well.
-
Kisenesato losing was disappointing but not surprising. In fact when I saw that he had to fight Tochinoshin I knew that was that for his yusho chances.

I blame Ishiura for messing up my ideas 15. Endo

The scores are cumulative. On the left Hanai, Wakayama and Maeda all appear three times winning each time.
