I think they learn pretty early, that it's better to lower the head at tachiai and NOT to go in face first, when 150kg+ come flying at you. Cuts would be one of the lesser problems. Thinking 'bout broken noses, cheekbones and jaws... Hoping for Chiyoshoma, that this weren't his last kensho. And if, at least he got some in his last makuuchi bout.

Some people on twitter think that Shishi's sumo is dangerous. His fall from the dohyo today was a result of bad ring sense, not complete exhaustion. I wonder what they call Takakeisho's flying headbutts...
-
Can we really call a henka, what The BigSlow did today? I've seen glaciers moving quicker, but hey, it worked... This is now officially Tamawashi's worst start into a basho. He went 0-7 twice (2018.09 K1e, 2014.03 M1w) before. I hope he stops it there, i want him to get that record. Wow, i can see uncle throwing the remote at his TV right now. Well done Ura, very well done. YES! That's how you beat Takakeisho. Another well done to Tobizaru.

The makuuchi streak has been going since 1974.11. 1974.07 was Kitanofujis last basho and his only makuuchi fellow Kitaseumi scored a bad MK, kicking him down to J1, from where he went back to makuuchi 1974.11.

Someone must have mixed some speed in today's chanko. Holy mochi...

ooops. corrected.

Atamifuji going 4-0 in his second makuuchi basho with only one arm is quite impressive. In today's bout it looked, like his right arm was only there to distract the Evil Twin. I hope his shoulder is better than Hakuoho's. Ura doing attack sumo is so much fun to watch. Else a quite disappointing day.

Chiyosakae and Azumaryu will meet tomorrow, the first time since maezumo 2009.01.

Day 2: Nishikigi / Abi -
It's really sad. He has to watch "Waterboy" with Adam Sandler. I'm dead serious. He is too nice. He has to channel his inner Chad Rowan. Akebono instilled FEAR in his opponents, just by staring at them. And then he raged them off the dohyo. Hokuseiho...i want to give that good boy a belly rub, and that's exactly the way he fights. The biggest of fluffs, but no bite.

Hello? Anyone here? Do we really need the 'muricans to wake up, to get this going here? I can't remember ANY basho day being so quiet.

John Gunning Re: The Ozeki Duo (sorry, Takakeisho)

You sure? -
Last bout and no comments so far? Asanoyama doing Ozeki sumo, Takakeisho not doing Ozeki sumo. Happy to see at least the other Os going strong. Some mattas, a torinaoshi, the east side almost sweeping it, could have been a worse start to a basho.

Hakuoho is out, votes voided.

Sorry, but this title belongs to Aminishiki. I hope Akiseyama can stay longer in sumo, he seems to be a decent guy. Let the kabu-shenanigans begin.

You can count me in per default from now on.

Shitabayama making new friends...

Finally someone with common sense.
-
Yeah, still M14-16 and it's not really a big feat to score well in low makuuchi, if you're mildly competent.
-
He had 11 wins last basho instead of his standard 8 or 9, because he was matched against M14-M16. Whoever thinks he can pull off a 13-2 or even a 14-1 at this point of his career, should stop munching on magic mushrooms.

Was there a time this wasn't the case? I mean globally speaking since the beginning of humankind? Next they go for the yukata and the hairstyle.
-
I bet the lawyers will cost more, just give him the money. Making a fuss about €26500...

You forget the medicinal check. Who else misses the guy in pink?

The losses this basho are more about quality, not quantity
