    Coronavirus in China

That's my fault. Stupidly I linked back to the forum instead of the article. Thanks for the help. It's fixed now.

I wonder if they cancel the basho due to the Coronavirus if they won't just hold the banzuke for March and issue it 2 weeks before the May basho.

With Shodai having 2 more wins and the sole Jun Yusho from 2 ranks behind? I didn't even think about it.

I just felt that if they didn't feel compelled to make one for Asanoyama at M8 they wouldn't for M17.

I dropped Kotoyuki but kept Meisei. I figured with Kotoyuki having surgery and never starting he would go. I promoted Kotonowaka, with Tomokaze out he was basically a J1 last basho IMO. Did not get a confirmation email but I am on the list of entries so I hope it's okay. Maybe I mistyped my email. Mine was this: Kakuryu Y Hakuho Takakeisho O --- Asanoyama S Shodai Hokutofuji K Endo Daieisho M1 Takayasu Okinoumi M2 Mitakeumi Abi M3 Tokushoryu Yutakayama M4 Enho Ryuden M5 Onosho Kagayaki M6 Myogiryu Takarafuji M7 Tamawashi Shohozan M8 Kiribayama Tochiozan M9 Takanosho Tochinoshin M10 Sadanoumi Chiyotairyu M11 Ishiura Teurtsuyoshi M12 Aoiyama Kotoshogiku M13 Ikioi Kaisei M14 Tsurugisho Azumaryu M15 Chiyomaru Nishikigi M16 Daiamami Kotonowaka M17 Shimanoumi Meisei M18 ---

    Bench Sumo news

Sad for me. Not a good time to get my first MK. Just have to get the Juryo yusho in March to make up for it I guess.

    Hatsu 2020 Superbanzuke Masters

No Americans in the top 10 and 6th overall in medals? Not as good as we can and should be. Look out rest of the world in March. Congrats and thanks to @Gaijingai for getting our sole Yusho.
  13. I agree. The rest is a crap shoot. For the rest of sanyaku I expect Mitakeumi, Hokutofuji, Yutakayama and Takayasu.

    Mitakeumi in 2020

He will stay in Joi. Bounce up and down from sanyaku. May even win another yusho. But he won't put those 3 good basho together.

He'll come back. Joi in January.

Hakuho - 16th time of asking

Yes, it will. I think there is 0% chance he is on the banzuke in January 2021. I think he'll get 1 more Yusho in July, then gone not long after.
  18. He'll be yokozuna and in the running for the Yusho most of the time. The herd is thinning out and he's the last standing. It will take most of the year for the younger guys to catch him on average.

Kiribayama - New Kid on The Block

Mid maegasira. 3 KKs but they'll be balanced by some low numbers near the top. Averages less than a KK for the year.

Kotoshogiku *and* Shohozan - the veterans poll

Shohozan has been fine but not great. He'll hang on through the end of the year and get 2KKs I think. Kotoshogiku has been in steady decline with 5 straight MKs. I predict he'll get another in March and follow Goeido's lead right after. Outside of Terunofuji the future is no shaping up well for former Ozeki.

Promotion/Demotion and Yusho discussion Hatsu 2020

Well, you already have Goeido and Arawashi going intai. I would not be surprised to hear the same from Sokokurai and Toyonoshima although the later sounds like he's on the fence. Also, there's Gagamaru, who pulled out midway through this basho and with no wins is likely to drop far from promotion range. Given how he's been fairing that could mean a year or more to get back to Juryo. A tall order.

    Goeido to Retire

I can not say I was a huge Goeido fan but he was a good ozeki. Especially when you consider the era. Facing Kisenosato, Kakuryu, Harumafuji and Hakuho for most of those basho getting a yusho meant going 3-1, at least, against them. A tall order. Yes, he had far too many 8s when he should have had 9s or 10s, but he was no slouch.

Promotion/Demotion and Yusho discussion Hatsu 2020

I would agree with Daiamami being stronger by the numbers Tomokaze's kyujo makes Kotonowaka a de facto J1 for this basho with a KK. Plus Kotonowaka had an exchange match against Kiribayama, who went 11-4 with a sansho, and won. I thikn Kotonowaka gets the edge. I think it likely they may demote Kotoyuki too so Daiamami will go up. Didn't they say Kotoyuki had surgery? If so he is kyujo for March too probably.
