    Kyushu 2021 discussion

Yup. He seems to lose focus more than others would. His sumo and my golf game frustrated the hell out of me. But despite his two losses hitherto, I think he has been better than usual. Terunofuji is set to dominate ozumo for years until his age catches up. I don't see anyone on the horizon to stand his way. Ura is looking good. It's a long shot but his Sanyuku debut may happen after this basho.

My 1st KK (barely) after 15 tries! I am in tears. Using a spreadsheet helped instead of doing it in my head.

Aki Basho 2021 - Discussion Thread (Spoilers!)

It sure was entertaining. I was surprised Ura gave Terunofuji a run for the money. I assumed it would be a walk-over by Terunofuji. No other bouts stood out.

The same could be said about Mitakeumi (and my golf game). All hopes on Myogiryu today to make the Yusho race interesting.

Takakeisho still looked sluggish while beating Wakawaka. Daieisho's 6-2 looks very doable on day 8. Mitkaeumi, sigh. I was expecting him to easily dispatch a struggling Ichinojo.

Aki Basho 2021 - Discussion Thread (Spoilers!)

It worked for Ura a few times before. But from the start, this effort was ill-timed/advised. Ura had no chance at successfully executing the kimarite. It was fun though. Wow, Tobizaru and Takarafuji went for a marathon. This was not so fun.

Aki Basho 2021 - Discussion Thread (Spoilers!)

Someone else is in Takakeisho's body. He seems to be demotion bound. Another Yusho for Terunofuji seems like a sure bet at this point, especially, after Chiyonokuni's loss today. I am hoping for Mitakeumi to keep pace with the Tyranofuji. Otherwise, there isn't much to see in this basho.

The last two wins by Ura were very entertaining. He made me smile. Arigato.

    Banzuke for Aki 2021

I look at it the other way. It is amazing that he even made it to the Makuuchi division more than once. I love to watch him win at any level.

    Takagenji Caught Smoking Weed

    Good riddance either way.

    Takagenji Caught Smoking Weed

There were a number of well-known transgressions he and his twin brother were guilty of. I will be happy to see him out of ozumo if it ever happens. He probably lost more fans when he tried to knock Enho out in the last basho. Ozumo does not need someone like Takagenji.

Promotion/Demotion and Yusho discussion Nagoya 2021

It seems that way. Yutakayma (10-5, J1E) should get the lone promotion. Mitoryu should hope that there is an intai or two at the Makuuchi rank.

    Nagoya Basho 2021

It is very possible that there would be only one demotion from Makuuchi in this basho. In that case, Yutakayama will get the promotion leaving Mitoryu lamenting about his banzuke luck.

    Nagoya Basho 2021

Well, that may depend on how many open slots there may be. There may be just one and Mitoryu may have to wait. Despite the record, it does not look good for Mitoryu. He'd better win the final day match and hope for getting help from others. Enho ... sigh.

    Nagoya Basho 2021

It's about time we get a new Yokozuna and I think Terunofuji's record speakes for itself. If he doesn't get it, I'd be surprised. There were some interesting monoiis (and at least one no-call) on day 13. I hate to see Ura lose it but he clearly looked to be guilty of a hair pull. Other than the Teruno & Hak sprinting to 13-0 records, this basho has been ho-hum. Early exit by Takakeisho, no Asanoyama took some air out early. Hoshoryu continues his steady (2 steps forward, one step back) march to the top. He is about a year ahead of Chiyonofuji's pace. Whether Hoshoryu can reach the top or not is uncertain but IMO, he is the best of the current prospects.
