Very interesting. But say, in the next 10 to 15 years, what is your opinion of seeing it happen ?
-
IMHO there´s a major difference between "world sports" and those that are distictively linked to a certain nation or region, and more deeply ingrained in culture. Correct me if am wrong, but I do not remember a single cricketer, footballer, tennis player, baseballer or track and field athlete who was, personally, frowned upon because of his nationality. Underestimated, perhaps. [edit: reasons out of their control, like politics, not included]

Four Sanyaku scalps out of six wins . If I had to put my money down, I´d say he doesn´t go on a binge the night before matches that are important to him, whereas his "preparation" is less proper on other days...

Kubinage (attempts) become en vogue again ? Goeido must be jumping on his sofa
-
A question: has Mitakeumi secured a kabu ?
-
Kisenosato was promoted on 12-3J / 14-1Y and the tiny difference of another 11 jun-yusho. So yes, especially how Hoshoryu was manhandled the last two days, I think is pretty safe to say it´s over for this time.
-
Well...perhaps next basho, if he can reach 12 wins in this.
-
I expect more of his second-week opponents to go with oshi sumo against him.
-
Shishi has thighs the size of an ox. Might warrant a new shikona....
-
It might not the first time I am wrong, but I see a lot of ring rust from Terunofuji.
-
Hmmm, 13-2, he better doesn´t lose against a Maegashira and defeats Terunofuji. Otherwise I´d say 14-1.
-
Thanks. Forgot that M17 yusho
-
Eleven different yusho winners in Makuuchi. I doubt I will see that again in my life.
-
I remember a funding campaign promoted on fb by sumo fans, to get him extra size sneakers, since he grew out of everything his family could afford.
-
By now his overreliance on throws, particularly when he comes under pressure, makes him predictable.Improving his yotsu skills definitely wouldn´t hurt.
-
I remember that term from the 80s, when six+ guys sat before one C64 together...oh where are the days...[sorry for digressing]
-
From the perspective of Sadogatake oyakata: Koto the Younger being denied kachikoshi with an uwatenage of all techniques..I´d really like to know what he is thinking right now
-
I am not sure. A henka against somebody who rarely does it and is maybe on average being henkaed does not sound that convincing. I doubt he would not have done it against Chiyoshoma or Abi.
-
Puh, hard to catch up after six days...a question to the forum members: Takakeisho would be be 28 if he retires now. What was the youngest age of oyakatas since owning a stable and remain active as a wrestler was forbidden ?
-
"If my body allows me to..., I will..."
-
I do not remember too many Yokozuna (voluntarily) retiring when they still can compete for the yusho. With the YDC probably placated for the time being, he can take two basho off, come back to restore order, and wait until a successor emerges...
-
Would a Wikipedia-entry like "Only injuries prevented him of setting a new record for number of times being kadoban ?" be too much of an oxymoron ?
-
At least we have seen the last of Takakeisho as Ozeki, this time he will not be coming back
-
With all due respect for Abi and his ability, I just cannot bring myself to root for him. The simple reason is his "brand" of nodowa. It is fine with me to use that technique to bring your opponent into an upright position, but using it as (pseudo-) punch almost like what you get tought in the military - no. Same for kachiage, btw. Just my humble opinion.
-
Is it too early to speak about an "Ozeki curse" ? Injuries, suspension, loss off form...not exactly best crop since 2017, Takakeisho excluded. Or am I biased ?
