A Ozeki going kyujo twice ? I don´t think that will happen.
-
Seems like I have written off Tamawashi too early...he got his second, ah, twenty second wind.
-
Oh the days...Big Mac was far more original and entertaining. The imagination of him going after ther gyoji ("You can´t be serios !") made me laugh. Thanks for that, made my day !

Hi Morty, I didn´t want to deviate from the basho thread further, but regarding Teddy Ballgame, it´s not that he didn´t play ball for three years. For instance, in 1945 he played in an eight team Navy League at Pearl Harbour, that included many of the best players of his era, e.g. Joe D and Stan Musial.
Great discussion, tho, thanks !
Kind regards, Roland

Jumping up to buy time when the opponent is falling is done all the, well, time. I don´t get this one. But they have called stranger things.
-
Takakeisho´s left haymaker didn´t work out twice. That´s impressive from Wakamotoharu.
-
Sure, but while on his way out he gave Kotonowaka the perhaps deciding slap to go down first. I don´t like the call, but with ambiguity of dead body...well, one could make an argument for it. In any case it was kind of a "suicide move"
-
They just don´t like those gimmicks. Dad probably said just that (if he´s on duty today)
-
No idea what they were thinking. A dead body doesn´t slap his opponent down.
-
Ura...that move strikingly resembled Kyokushūzan.
-
Not sure what´s going on with Abi. He obviously doesn´t have his usual power behind his thrusts.

Just for the sake of discussion, and to put it into perspective: imagine one of the best baseball players suspended for a year, and another laboring in minor leagues. More or less suddenly he faces the best pitchers in the the world. What outcome would you expect in their first meeting ?

69..call me lewd and depraved, but in my city we celebrate that birthday for cutting it lose one more time....next one would be 96 Anyway, Happy Birthday and thanks 10000 times for your efforts !

The "exits" of both cries for a caption

I can´t remember them. He favored his boy ?
-
Not so, imo. I can imagine he voted out of principle against his son
-
Ouch. Hopefully Terunofuji can get out of bed tomorrow. He must be in terrible pain.
-
Asanoyama...looked like ring rust against real competition.
-
Akiseyama seems to have not enough left for a 99th promotion to Juryo...

One of the very few who beat Hakuho against his migi-yotsu grip in a belt battle.

[initially posted in the wrong thread] Methinks..Tamawashi is finally nearing his sunset, a great career, particularly for an oshi wrestler.

Wakatakakage Out for Up to a Year after Knee Surgery
Gospodin replied to Kaninoyama's topic in Ozumo Discussions
I am not a physician, but one year for a torn ACL seems a bit long with nowadays´ medical capabilities. Skiers regularly shred their ligaments and usually are back into training after 6 months, perhaps shorter. -
Tamawashi looks quite sluggish, and the timing of his tsuppari is off. It might be just one weak basho, but is Tamawashi finally getting a little long in the tooth ?
-
Even without the injuries, Takakeisho has already peaked two years ago, perhaps even three. To me his recent results are more reflective of the current competition. My money´s down this was his last chance at making it to Yokozuna. Asanoyama will be back in Makuuchi in the next tourney, also Teru at perhaps 80 %, and Hoshoryu won´t regress. Tkakeisho´s window of opportunity is closed, hopefully he remains a good ozeki for a few more years.

Can´t we have a generic henka collection thread where every discussion about it would be moved ?
