2019 Aki Basho Discussion (spoiler alert!)

Terunofuji has droped by sitting out of tournaments, not by piling-up make-koshi records. It seems fine as long as he only gets kachi-koshi records on his way back. Hard to predict what kind of reactions and criticism he might get if in one of the upcoming tournaments he gets a make-koshi record as a "too low" rank

    Izutsu-oyakata has died

That is a very sad news indeed. I guess moto-Terao will kinda inherit the Fukuzono family affait of the Izutsu kabu... unless Kakuryu has plans

    Yoshikaze situation

He could wait until Monday or Tuesday after the tournament (so before the banzuke committee) so that the kabu borrower can have one more basho as oyakata, and he gets some more money from salaries, bonuses and kabu loan...

    New recruits for Aki 2019

Since the mongolian recruit will not be maezumo this time, if there is no returnee from banzuke-gai, it is possible that only one guy will show up for maezumo. What happens in this case? A pairing against a jonokuchi rikishi?

Haha not quite the same Eid I'm afraid

    Latest kabu-babu changes

That pretty much looks like intai is approaching fast for Ikioi

Congrats Bill for the yusho! Been denied an ozeki promotion over a mono-ii, my fate was being Tochinoshin-ed It's amazing I'm having my best year ever as a sumo gamer (8th in the standings) and yet to win a single yusho this year (is there a special prize for that?)

And what if we don't update the final results?

    Juryo Promotions for 2019 Aki

I guess they considered that those two bouts (Arawashi vs Kaisho and Kotonowaka vs Wakamotoharu) were direct exchange bouts. There is no other reason I can see for a Ms4w at 4-3 is ranked in front of a Ms5w at 5-2.

Nagoya 2019 Discussion (here be spoilers)

There is no doubt Izutsu owns his kabu. The only case the "Owner" column is filled is when the "Holder" column is either "vacant" or another rikishi (loan). In all other cases, the holder is obviously also the owner.

Nagoya 2019 Discussion (here be spoilers)

? Natsu 2019 Ichinojo (4-7-3) vs Myogiryu (6-8) Kyushu 2018 Kagayaki (4-10) vs Ichinojo (6-8) Only in the last 6 tournaments. In both cases sanyaku vs maegashira. In both case an alternative with other sanyaku vs maegashira, both kachi-koshi, was available.

    Aminishiki injured/ Intai

What an amazing career he had. Congratulations Aminishiki. And hail Ajigawa!

    Banzuke for Nagoya 2019

I am having a hard time in trying to understand the banzuke making patterns that were in force at that time. As anyone a clue? (I am sure some of you do)

    Banzuke for Nagoya 2019

I am not talking absolute-wise but relative-wise. I agree Takagenki rank is in line with his record and previous occurrences (whatever that means). Kotoeko got a massive overpromotion (which sometimes happens with some luck). I just wanted to point out that a rikishi only 3 ranks higher highly benefited from the division gap (worthing circa 3 full wins in this case)

    Banzuke for Nagoya 2019

The Asanoyama case is surprising, indeed, but what surprises me way more is that Daishoho (M16e, 9-6) and Kotoeko (M15w, 8-7) are ranked ahead of Takagenki (J2e, 13-2)...

    Takakeisho injury update

He seems to receive proper advice from professionals and have a long-term approach of his career. It is healthier on many grounds, even if it could cost him his rank for Aki.

    2019 Natsu - Kimarite Statistics

Hmm thinking about it, it might be the kimarite era, from the last reformation, so 2001 or so. Am I right?

    2019 Natsu - Kimarite Statistics

Thank you for this kimarite post, always very interesting. But I guess here you meant from the beginning of Heisei, unless you considered another type of era... And I wonder... Since those low yoritaoshi/oshitaoshi rates are linked with a yokiriki/oshidashi high, what could that mean bout-wise... a "cleaner" sumo?

    Trivia bits

This basho, Natsu 2019, was only the second time in the records where 5 sansho were awarded to maegashira rikishi: Gino-sho M5 Ryuden Shukun-sho M8 Asanoyama Kanto-sho M4 Abi, M8 Asanoyama and M12 Shimanoumi The only other time it happened, in Aki 1991, sansho winners were: Gino-sho M3 Wakahanada (Future Yokozuna Wakanohana) and M12 Mainoumi Shukun-sho M3 Wakahanada Kanto-sho M1 Tochinowaka and M5 Kotonishiki However in this Natsu basho 2019, all sansho winners have no sanyaku experience (as well as the yusho winner), I guess this is a particularly rare occurrence to have all price winners without sanyaku experience.

    New sumo trophies

Jacques Chirac established the French President's Cup, not PM. And Sarkozy cancelled it when he arrived into office, brightening the removal with some particularly unpleasant comments on sumo wrestle.

    Games Bugs

Yeah yeah I understand your point. I was just pointing out that the automation did not follow my understanding of the rules. This is quite an unusual case, the game tate-gyoji will have to ensure how is done the computation and align it with the rules (or in the rules)

When I read the rules, " If more than one rikishi pulls out, the substitute will count only for the first to exit. " is rather clear to me. The sub enters when the first rikishi goes kyujo, and CANNOT BE USED AGAIN As a consequence, the sub does not fill the higher empty spot but the spot of the first rikishi to withdraw (what if two rikishi withdraw the same day? On which ground would the higher placed take precedence). As another consequence, if the first rikishi to withdraw returns, the sub cannot enter another time. This is my understanding of the rules

    Trivia bits

Out of the yusho without sanyaku experience, Asanoyama is the first to secure the tournament before the final day!
