    Goeido to Retire

I hope he can find a kabu in the 3-year period offered by the kyokai. He has been a very decent ozeki, and his zensho was an unexpected surprise The bout I will remember from him is the okuritsuriotoshi loss he had to then-Ama. A must-see for all sumo fans that were not around in 2007 : The newcomers might also enjoy this masterpiece from @Randomitsuki

    Hatsu 2020 Basho Discussion (SPOILERS)

I'm not sure there is a way to query this, I'd say it is necessary to go and see which schedule was chosen by the torikumi makers for each single senshuraku if you want to know the exact number of maegashira in the last three bouts

    Hatsu 2020 Basho Discussion (SPOILERS)

I thank harder about it, and actually there is one case not covered by my previous query. A kyujo rikishi on senshuraku will appear as active on day 15, yet the "bout" will be moved before sanyaku soroibumi and this can shot 2 sanyaku in the process. But as a 2-sanyaku soroibumi would require at least 2 bouts to be cancelled in the last-3 originally scheduled when the database shows "5" or "6" active sanyaku in senshuraku, that can be deemed as highly unlikely

    Hatsu 2020 Basho Discussion (SPOILERS)

Because of bout precedence, this question can be rephrased as: Was it ever a basho with at most 2 active sanyaku on senshuraku. http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Query_bout.aspx?show_form=0&group_by=basho&group_by2=day&day=15&m=on&rank1=Y-K The lower number of active sanyaku on senshuraku is 5, in Kyushu 2018

    Hatsu 2020 Basho Discussion (SPOILERS)

Tokushoryu post-bout reaction was very moving, and fully deserves the yusho after this magnificent win over an ozeki. I am very happy for the guy Out of the 42, he would be #41 (courtesy of Kotoyuki) if I had to rank the guys with yusho winning odds prior to the tournament, and it is truely refreshing to see that this can happen in sumo. He is having the spotlight time of his career, I hope he will enjoy the celebrations as much as he can. Besides that, I still think he will never make it to sanyaku, and this yusho might me his better card to get a kabu. Well done, big guy

    Hatsu 2020 Basho Discussion (SPOILERS)

Last time a yusho winner faced a juryo was Takatoriki in Haru 2000 The fact that almost all top ranked rikishi did not compete at their "expected" level is not something to blame on hiramaku. Overall there is a brunch of entertaining bouts this basho And in Natsu 1961 there was a lower hiramaku that won a yusho, facing and losing to a juryo wrestler, and only meeting one sanyaku, on senshuraku. Then M13 Sadanoyama ended up with a big rope around his belly Rikishi do not pick up their opponents, and Tokushoryu was virtually bound to meet at least once a juryo opponent given his rank. Even if he does not win the yusho, only the fact to appear in a kettei-sen whilst meeting a juryo opponent is equally remarkable (there is this Orochiyama/Nishikinada case in Natsu 1926 but it was in the east/west division time and it is unclear to me if there were kettei-sen as we know them at that time)

    Trivia bits

Hatsu 2020 is only the fourth basho of the 6-basho era to feature no bouts between ozeki (incl. yokozuna) It happened before in: Natsu 1992 (1Y intai, 1O early kyujo, only Konishiki went through senshuraku, yusho sekiwake Akebono) Kyushu 1992 (no Y, 2O early kyujo, only Akebono went through senshuraku, yusho ozeki Akebono) Aki 2001 (1Y and 3O early kyujo, only stablemates Musashimaru and Musoyama went through senshuraku, yusho M2 Kotomitsuki) So Hatsu 2020 is unique in the sense that two ozeki made it to day 15 whilst not being stablemates, and yet no torikumi was scheduled between them

    Hatsu 2020 Basho Discussion (SPOILERS)

That looks like a low-rank record for senshuraku musubi-no-ichiban, or sanyaku soroibumi

    Games Talk - Hatsu 2020

So far GTB entry only goes to M17, and a M18e is not impossible next tournament

    Hatsu 2020 Basho Discussion (SPOILERS)

It is also conceivable, depending on the final record of lower sanyaku and joijin maegashira, that a M18e spot would be created. Last time a M18 existed was Aki 1959, when makuuchi had 46 wrestlers.

    Games Bugs

I know. The same issue occurred like two years ago in one of my first basho in charge. The other bug also still appears every now and then. No need to scream, no one's life is in danger here. It will be fixed eventually.

This issues often pops out. Usually it comes back in order on its own. If it does not, I will ask Doitsuyama to kick the automation in the balls. The scoring system is quite unstable sometimes but I always check that the final standings are correct, at least for the top 10 players.

    Metasumo 2020

    1-5 Pandaazuma 6-10 Andoreasu 11-20 Gurowake 21-40 Flohru 41-80 Athenayama 81-120 Suwihuto 121-200 Hakajusakari 201+ Kasamatsuri

    Trivia bits

Takayasu is, sur sure, an ex-ozeki. The Hatsu 2020 situation is no different from the Nagoya 1976, is which Mienoumi succeded in getting the 10 wins for immediate promotion. As he ended up yokozuna, I hope the same path for Takayasu. As for having 4 ex-ozeki, Terunofuji could be promoted with 13, might with 14 and will be with 15 wins this Hatsu, so the scenario is not impossible

    Banzuke for Hatsu 2020

Abi has just an amazing bad luck. Three time at least one sekiwake spot is freed, but each time a demoted ozeki comes in the way and Abi falls in the next-in-line spot. This three ozeki demotions in a row makes him just amazingly unlucky

TORCHBEARER 2019: the picks, torch match notices, results

Congrats to the winner! At least I didn't finish with 0... But shouldn't I get some final rikishi points since my pick was Akiseyama?

Promotion/Demotion and Yusho discussion Kyushu 2019

Usually on Monday, 13 days before the first day of the tournament (being in general the second Sunday of each odd-numbered month) For Hatsu basho, it differs a bit. This year, rankings will be anounced on December 24th.

    Recap of the decade?

Ranked on banzuke in Makuuchi: All: Hakuho, Kakuryu, Kotoshogiku All but 1: Goeido, Tochiozan All but 2: Yoshikaze, Okinoumi All but 3: Tamawashi
  21. Nantonoyama

    Games Talk Kyushu 2019

That is indeed infortunate , even more since there was no way I could finish make-koshi. So banzuke climbing it is
  22. Nantonoyama

    Games Talk Kyushu 2019

Looks like I forgot to press the X3 in odd, so I am stupidly not classified in the end. What does that mean rank-wise? Kosho-equivalent or 0-0-15?
  23. Nantonoyama

2019 Kyushu Basho Discussion (spoiler alert)

Kettei-sen bouts are not considered when it comes to banzuke movements. 7-0Y or 7-0D will be treated exactly the same. In the non-impossible case where both Terunofuji and Midorifuji went to a 7-0 makushita yusho kettei-sen, both would have been promoted
  24. Nantonoyama

    Stable? Why?

A Formula 1 team is called a stable in italian (scuderia) and French (écurie). The origin in horseracing is pretty straightforward here. As a French speaker I can say the word écurie (stable) is used. Whether it is a direct translation from English or not I do not know.

    UDH Kyushu Basho 2019

In general, I think the deadline should be as late as possible. Also in this case I do understand that the guys putting Kakuryu as 6-pointer get full points. I live in Europe and I did not get up early a Sunday morning to see if I have to change my picks. But this is MY problem. The World is round and if some people can take advantage of it, good for them...
