    Bench World Cup 2018

From now on, my saviour Jejima has kindly offered to cover for me as refioji. Due to a combination of two very difficult reasons, I am finding it hard to bring you regular updates. Our house's distribution board was incapacitated during a flood (yes, it rained, torrentially, in Athens, in June...) and I'm not even there most of the time, instead spending most of my time running a bedridden friend's errands some 50 km away and caring for his (less ill) dog. Honestly it's not all bad, insurance is taking care of the electrician bills, the actual house is a first-floor flat (but with a ground-level distribution panelboard) which was unharmed by the flood apart from very minor things, I'm spending my days away from the city and the chaos, near the sea with a good friend- but Internet access, especially through a proper PC and not a phone, is an issue. My sincere apologies to @Fukurou, @Haidouzo, @Achiyama, @Kintamayama, @Nantonoyama, @Jejima and all the participants of the Bench World Cup I've neglected, and many thanks to @Jejima for taking over.

And of my path to glory. -------------------------------------- Amazingly, Nantonoyama maintains an unbroken chain throughout the bout and scores on slots 5, 6, 9 and 10 to take this 4-0 in impressive fashion, and leapfrogs everyons to take first place in the group. Group C Round 2 results: Bozhanitakara: 1. Russia, 2. France, 3. Portugal, 4. Uruguay, 5. Argentina (C), 6. Switzerland, 7. Sweden, 8. Saudi Arabia, 9. Australia (R), 10. Peru, 11. Iran --------------------------------------------------------- Bozhanitakara takes down Haidouzo, 2-0, scoring in slots 3 and 4, before having er chain broken in slot 5 after 4 straight wins. --------------------------------------------------------- Kintamayama: 1. Russia (C), 2. England, 3. Denmark, 4. Germany, 5. Argentina, 6. Sweden, 7. Croatia, 8. Peru (R), 9. Japan, 10. South Korea, 11. Saudi Arabia vs. Nantonoyama: 1. England, 2. Uruguay, 3. Argentina, 4. Please? ---------------------------------------------------------- This match was a frustrating deadlock for Kintamayama and a narrow escape by Nantonoyama. Kintamayama broke Nantonoyama's chain in slot 3 after two 2-win slots, the pair both had winners in slot 4 and losers in 5, and finally Kintamayama's chain was broken in slot 6. Final score, 0-0. --------------------------------------------------------- Group C standings: 1. Bozhanitakara 4 points (GD +2) 2. Haidouzo 3 points (GD 0) 3. Nantonoyama 2 points (GD 0) 4. Bench World Cup 2018

Finally, an update on Group C, which I have neglected horribly. After one billion billion days in round 2: Bozhanitakara: 1. Russia, 2. France, 3. Portugal, 4. Uruguay, 5. Argentina (C), 6. Switzerland, 7. Sweden, 8. Saudi Arabia, 9. Australia (R), 10. Peru, 11. Costa Rica vs. Haidouzo: 1. England, 2. Germany, 3. Denmark (R), 4. Argentina, 5. Russia, 6. Colombia, 7. Serbia (C), 8.Japan, 9. Egypt, 10. Panama, 11. Iran --------------------------------------------------------- Kintamayama: 1. Russia (C), 2. England, 3. Denmark, 4. Germany, 5. Argentina, 6. Sweden, 7. Croatia, 8. Peru (R), 9. Japan, 10. South Korea, 11. Saudi Arabia vs. Nantonoyama: 1. England, 2. Uruguay, 3. Argentina, 4. France (R), 5. Poland, 6. Switzerland, 7. Peru, 8. Sweden, 9. Morocco, 10. Iran (C), 11. Panama Comment: If I lose this match (on purpose), do I get some extra GTB points for Aki guessing? Please? ---------------------------------------------------------- Bozhanitakara's victory is assured, after 4 wins in her top 4. Haidouzo was brave with the placement of his high-risk (R) team and got his chain broken early. Bozhanitakara has 2 goals already in the pocket, but she may score one or two more depending on what England and Germany do. Kintamayama hasn't scored yet, but he cannot lose after Nantonoyama got his chain broken by three Croatian goals (how the hell did that happen? I'll go see some highlights after this.) If England lose, Kintamayama wins; if they draw or win, he'll have to look for a first/second goal somewhere lower (maybe slot 7?), and would rely on Colombia beating Poland to have a chance for victory.

    Bench World Cup 2018

Group C Round 1 results: ------------------------------------------------------------------ Nantonoyama: 1.England, 2. Argentina, 3. France (R), 4. Uruguay, 5. Peru, 6. Poland, 7. Sweden, 8. Iran (C), 9. Morocco, 10. Panama, 11. Switzerland Comment : Represent France and put England on the top spot... What. A. Shame vs. Bozhanitakara: 1. France, 2. Uruguay, 3. Russia, 4. Argentina (C), 5. Sweden, 6. Peru, 7. Portugal, 8. Costa Rica, 9. Australia (R), 10. Switzerland, 11. Saudi Arabia --------------------------------------------------------------------- Interesting bout here, let's see the blow-by-blow. In slot 1, we have no score. In slot 2, Bozhanitakara scores and leads 1-0. Then Nantonoyama scores assisted by (R)-team privileges to make it 1-1, and again in slot 4 to take a 2-1 lead with no chains broken. In slot 5, Bozhanitakara breaks Nantonoyama's chain and scores an equaliser- the score is now 2-2. Bozhanitakara fails to score in the next two slots and finally gets her chain broken in slot 8. Final score: 2-2. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Kintamayama: 1. Germany, 2. England, 3. Argentina, 4. Russia (C), 5. Denmark, 6. Sweden, 7. Croatia, 8. Peru (R), 9. Japan, 10. South Korea, 11. Saudi Arabia vs Haidouzo: 1. Russia, 2. Argentina, 3. England, 4. Germany, 5. Colombia, 6. Serbia (C), 7. Denmark (R), 8. Iran, 9. Japan, 10. Egypt, 11. Panama ------------------------------------------------------------------- Kintamayama gets his chain broken in the first slot- Germany did a lot of damage to a lot of people, including Haidouzo in slot 4, who nevertheless takes this match by a score of 2-0, scoring in slots 1 and 3. Standings: 1. Haidouzo 3 points (GD +2) 2. Bozhanitakara 1 point (GD 0) 3. Nantonoyama 1 point (GD 0) 4. Kintamayama 0 points (GD -2)

As it stands, Bozhanitakara scores on slot 2 and Nantonoyama scores assisted by (R) team France on slot 3 to make it 1-1. Haidouzo scores on slots 7 and 8 to take a 2-0 lead over Kintamayama, but has to keep his chain unbroken through 6 slots for those goals to count.

And so Australia lose twice within 5 minutes today- apart from the 2-1 defeat to France, they just suffered their first home loss to the Irish rugby team since 1979.

    New ozeki Tochinoshin pics overview

If I may be a linguistics dork some more here, I don't think anyone uses the name "Helvetia" except for Greece, actually. It comes from the Latin "Confederatio Helvetica" (Swiss Confederation). And while we do use the name (H)ellas for ourselves down here, a more prevalent name for Greece is Ionia, or derivatives thereof. Quite a few countries in Asia call us Yunan(istan), and I was told we're called Yavan in Hebrew (I was actually informed of that on the walk towards a @Kintamayama concert). As for Georgia, I suppose their vehement anti-Russian sentiment combines with the lingua franca status of the English language to explain their preference towards ジョージア.

That's the English pronunciation, in fact- the Georgians call their own country Sakartvelo.
