    Sekitori Shiritori

Just wait until Denhou and Ryuuou make it to Juryo and you'll be right as rain. By the way, we played a similar game with a few of my cricket-watching friends called The Eternal Muslim: Sanif Mohammed + Mohammed Wasim + Wasim Akram - > Sanif Mohammed Wasim Akram

    Trivia bits

Found a J5 after a quick look through the database: http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Rikishi.aspx?r=4168 Edit: and a Ms43, incredibly, who held the Kagamiyama kabu from 1911 to 1951: http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Kabu.aspx?kabu=30

Promotion/Demotion and Yusho discussion Kyushu 2018

I'm still pissed at Yago for what he did to Othello and everyone else. He's a right psychopath.

    Kyushu Basho 2018 Discussion [SPOILERS]

I'm struggling to see why the kimarite by which Takakeishou won today was a hikiotoshi. Yes, he did pull his aite down, but not only did Myougiryuu not fall down following the pull, but he also stayed in the dohyo on his feet. It clearly seemed to be an okuridashi to me. And in any case, any kimarite that ends in - otoshi must involve someone falling down, right? The clue appears to be in the name. The kimarite-calling of late also seems to have loosened its definition of what a throw is.

    Kyushu Basho 2018 Discussion [SPOILERS]

Per the Japanese Wikipedia, its approximate capacity is 10000 total: 6000 in the lowest tier, 2500 in the middle and 1500 in the uppermost.

    Harumafuji danpatsushiki

Perhaps Harumafuji causing Kisenosato's injury in Haru '17 might have something to do with the tension...

    Trivia bits

Ah, thanks very much for that. The version I had in mind was the first one you linked - Gurowake's accurate interpretation aside. Side note, Kyokutenhou's career length never ceases to surprise me. I only knew Kushimaumi from the obliterating harite knockout he received from Kyokudouzan in 1993 - which I had assumed had taken place a few years earlier than that. I never thought Kyokutenhou would have faced him.

    Trivia bits

Sorry, perhaps I wasn't clear enough. I'm looking for the rikishi who faced the largest number of different aite in makuuchi - not the aite pairs with the most bouts.

    Trivia bits

Would anyone like to lend me their wisdom and tell me what's the right query to search for the rikishi with the most makuuchi aite faced? @Asashosakari, @Jakusotsu, @Gurowake, perhaps?

    Pandaazuma Happy Birthday

Happy birthday, and may the year ahead be better than the one behind you! Not too much better in sumo gaming though, give the rest of us a chance.
  16. Probably because the first man to undergo reconstructive surgery of that ligament was Tommy John, a baseball pitcher, and the surgery is now commonplace and effective largely thanks to his and other pitchers' success. I even heard references to "Tommy John surgery" even in my water polo days, in a team where nobody knew anything about baseball.

    Trivia bits

In Hatsu 1971, Tochiazuma "Tochiazuma's dad" Tomoyori went 2-13 with a fusensho and a kinboshi. Has there ever been another instance of a rikishi who completed a basho without going kyujo and whose only wins he had a say in were against yokozuna?

    Aki Basho 2018 Discussion [SPOILERS]

Let that be a lesson to us all. Toss salt like there's no tomorrow and you'll end up senile at 56. Meanwhile, Mitakeumi has an excellent start to his Ozeki run: 4 wins in 3 days.

    Mitakeumi shikona change?

I can imagine the conversation between Kotetsuyama and his shisho after the last makuuchi injury: "I'm going kyujo, I can't bear this injury." "Are you sure, Kotetsuyama?" "Itai, itai!" "All right then."

    foreigners?

Just read up on this. A US citizen residing outside the USA is therefore subject to income tax in two countries? Sounds like something of a gouge to me.

    Nagoya Basho 2018 Discussion [SPOILERS]

Catching up here- but some people will say that he never did perform the way an ozeki should. I think that since he has maintained his rank for the past few years, it's ozeki-worthy by definition, but through most of his tenure he didn't exactly look like a yokozuna candidate, to put it kindly.
