Funny videos and photos of rikishi at play

My pleasure. He's a very honest character, Furiwake-oyakata, eh?

Been looking for this clip for a long time...still one of my all time favourite segments in in the Year End Batsu Games until now :D https://www.facebook.com/AbsolutelyGaki/videos/934099600005692/ For the ones who are confused : Furiwake-oyakata (ex-Takamisakari) did a really funny parody in 2014's annual Year End batsu game.

    Mitakeumi shikona change?

He'll always be Mita to me ☺️
  6. Oh wow I did not know about the fairly recent Jakarta tour before the article! How come I did not hear any of it at the time? Looked like it was a sucessful tour too judging from the photos and old news articles I googled.

    Ex-Wakashimazu grave injury

I'm torn between giving the "Like" for Nishonoseki-oyakata's continued improvement, or for the unexpected and delightful sight of his stunning daughter on this nonchalant Jakarta morning. *sigh.......*

    Basho Talk Natsu 2018 (SPOILERS)

I thought it was hilarious fun. I'm not a sumo veteran fan nor am I a total newbie fan too, but I was one of the many who yelled/typed "MAWASHIII!" just because it was the funnest thing to do at that particular moment, smiling so gleefully as I saw the chatroom exploded. Same feeling like when watching football live at the stadium : lots of not-really-clever verbal outburts and whatnot, but the emotion was palpable and you get swept along with it. And of course the quality of the banter will be totally different over there than in this forum, where we have time to edit and consider our responses. I use both and loving it.

    Basho Talk Natsu 2018 (SPOILERS)

Or just the fact that for the naked eye during the heat of the moment, both touched the ground at almost exactly the same time and simply too close too call, thus the torinaoshi as a fair outcome of the monoii. I'm not sure how much the video shinpan have a say in the matter in this case, but I'd like to think even the both rikishis feel a rematch is the best decision.

    Basho Talk Natsu 2018 (SPOILERS)

From now on everytime I see a rikishi get Tochinosin-ed multiple times by the banzuke committee, I'm going to say, "That guy's a future Ozeki for sure".

    Basho Talk Natsu 2018 (SPOILERS)

There's little to no point being a little bit better than the worst current active sumo wrestler around, no? Unless you're looking to live in Japan while not paying for meals and lodging. Mind you, I have a sneaky suspicion I would still lose to Hattorizakura in an arm-wrestle or amy strength contests....

    Basho Talk Natsu 2018 (SPOILERS)

Wow Tochi-Ichi....I was almost as out of breath as Tochi was at the end of the bout! Was ooh-and-aahing and banging the table so hard watching the recap my wife was giving me dirty looks.

    Basho Talk Natsu 2018 (SPOILERS)

Watching day 6's opening Makuuchi bout made me quite sad... I remember when I started watching ozumo about two years ago both combatants were sanyaku mainstays and were at the peak of their powers. Such a rough sport...

    Basho Talk Natsu 2018 (SPOILERS)

What's more impressive than Endo's balance is his sheer strength of his left hand grip on Ichinojo's mawashi during the attempted push/throw down. That steadfast grip enabled him to use it as a pivot to resist Ichinojo. Imagine a 200+ kg guy trying to topple you down by gripping your belt from behind while simultaneously pushing your head down with his other hand, and all you have is your left hand holding onto the lower half of his slippery silk belt. Gripping stuff!
