Should I wash a new Mawashi to soften it

In the film 'Perseverance' (A Normal Life) that follows the first steps in the sumo career of Kyokutaisei, one of the household chores was to go to the laundrette to wash mawashi, and later you could see the long strips hung out to dry.

'Machine washed mawashi' alliterates even better... <ducks for cover>

    Hakuho retires

    He looks very spiffy.

    Hakuho retires

Maybe it was just to keep the right number. 42, you know, the Answer to Everything.

    Asahifuji kanreki dohyo-iri

I wish I could be there for both events. I am one of those long standing Aminishiki fans, from the days of his first appearance in Makuuchi.

    Hakuho retires

Unbelievable how much flak he is getting. Don't Ishiura, Hokuseiho, Enho, the youth in the Hakuho Cup count for anything at all? Sure there were hinkaku violations and some of it was hurtful, but there have been oyakata less suited to the task than he. In criticizing past transgressions the YDC sounds spiteful, continuing a policy to set foreigners apart as being no good. I am sure that Hakuho will be a great oyakata and shisho raising great deshi, tons better than a certain other who raised horrible deshi and almost tore the NSK apart. Just my 2cents, YMMV.

    Terunofuji is the 73rd Yokozuna.

Shorter bouts would be better for the knees than a sustained driving effort, surely. But the weakness has also forced him to develop other weapons, to become less of a one-trick pony, reinventing his sumo. I have great respect for that, it can't have been easy. So he is putting a lot more thought into his bouts, defense as well as attack. I'd say we getting more entertainment than we would have gotten had he not been injured and become Yokozuna in 2018.

Yeah, counting them is a bit of a pain. It would be much better if the commas were all in the same spot but I guess they don't have enough room on the sheet for that.

I'm counting 48, excluding the Morinaga-sho that isn't known at the time the torikumi is printed. Parading all those banners around the ring surely takes some time!

Another question: is there a Morinaga-sho every day, awarded post-bout so not mentioned in the torikumi, and does the envelope contain the same amount as the kensho? Two questions, really. And a ruthless efficiency. Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!

@Akinomaki I was looking at the kensho for Day 4 and I noticed that Chiyonokuni had been granted 3 kensho placed on his bout with Tsurugisho. But Tsurugisho had a fever and went kyujo to be tested. Isn't it usual to withdraw the kensho for a fusensho?? Note: he had 5 on Day 1, 3 on Day 2, and 2 on Day 3. For Day 4 there were 3 placed kensho, not 2, but these should not be counted... so the lists after Day 4 could be wrong too.

    Ridiculous Predictions Aki 2021

As for a ridiculous prediction, how about this one: Ishiura, having perfected his hinerite, remains undefeated till day 15, and has tt face Hakuho in the kettei-sen for the yusho, and is henka'd by the Yokozuna causing an immediate call for his retirement.
