Basho Talk - Nagoya 2015 +++ Spoiler alert! +++
torquato replied to kuroimori's topic in Honbasho Talk
That was the first time that I've ever seen a crowd chanting in unison for a particular wrestler. Well, Goeido comes from Osaka. It happend a couple of times the crowd during an Oska-basho was cheering for him like that [in hope the local hero might become Ozeki or Yokuzuna or beat at least the great guys]. I was rather suprised that this happened in Nagoya... The chearing for Goeido was really worth mentioning, though this time.... -
That's what I thought, even without having your expertise.^^ It doesn't seem to fit Kuramae Kokugikan. In the background there is a vertical advertisement banner. In the middle it says ウイスキー* aka 'Whiskey'. Right next to it some other related advertisement text is visibile, but not readable. Tried to figure out what it could be. 'Adjusting' contrast, etc... I couldn't work it out. Maybe someone can pin this down. *The older spelling was ウヰスキー. Wonder if that does necessarily imply postwar times? One way to fix a terminus post quem?

Could anybody tell me, what the f**** Kaisei is doing in Brazil with Humpty Dumpty right now? Shouldn't he do Sumo in Nagoya? I still don't get it. And does anybody know, if they can recieve NHK sumo transmission in Alice's Wonderland? Has Humpty Dumpty ever got a kachikoshi?

Promotion/Demotion and Yusho discussion Nagoya 2015
torquato replied to Asashosakari's topic in Honbasho Talk
I'm very pretty sure that Kyokutenhou would retire on demotion. Well, I'd at least be very surprised if he'd stay on in Juryo. Positively...? Don't know.... Kotoshogiku's case is somehow different. After demotion he still has his chance of imediate return with a 10+ kachikoshi. I'm pretty sure he won't retire before that turns out helpless... I'd imagine Kokutenho to retire after the next Banzuke release and Kotoshogiku during honbasho... Just my wild guess without much expetise... -
Day 11 1. Hakuho 213 2. Kakuryu 151 3. Endo 103 4. Terunofuji 101 5. Kisenosato 80 6. Tochiozan 69 7. Goeido 44 9. Takayasu 20 9. Myogiryu 20

As far as I see it, Kyokutenho is safe with 3 more wins, he could stay in Makuuchi with 2, but that is on the edge and with less then 2 he will be demoted. I'm very sure that he will go intai on demotion. So a very crucial basho for him. I cross fingers for him. Edit: Mmmhhh... Didn't notice. These comments would rather belong to the Promotion/Demothion-Thread right?

Nothing of importance, but I just noticed, that Osunaarashis change of writing his 'first' name 金太郎 -> 金崇郎 per Kyushu 2014 is still not reflected in the DB.

Basho Talk - Nagoya 2015 +++ Spoiler alert! +++
torquato replied to kuroimori's topic in Honbasho Talk
Exactly. Hakuho was acting just the way he is allowed by rank and experience to act in a keiko session. "Babyface, come back later when you're grown up and need to shave!" -
Thanks for the catwalk.
-
No, that's just the middle part of his shikona from top to bottom on the left side. Yes it is. It is actually one and the same. Something, I must confess, I was't aware of. The middle part of his shikona is in fact this 夢 (yume). :)
-
Had this one in mind and noticed, but forgot to post...

Day 8 1. Hakuho 169 2. Kakuryu 117 3. Terunofuji 68 4. Endo 65 5. Kisenosato 6. Tochiozan 28 7. Goeido 24 8. Osunaarashi 19 9. Myogiryu 18 9. Kotoshogiku 18 Osunaarashi says thanks too. The Endo bout got him at least once into the top 10.
-
The decorative element seems to be the Kanji 夢 (yume), which means 'dream', 'vision'.
