Invitation for Makushita Game: Nagoya 2023

I was super-busy over the last week or so. But here's a brief report after six out of seven rounds of Makushita action. Yokozuna Andoreasu together with shin-deshi Konya ga Yamada share a tiny lead in the standings, in front of a trio of Ozeki Ganzohnesushi, M7 chishafuwaku, and M9 Bunbukuchagama. My W/L estimates suggest that Oskanohana will fend off kadoban while Asahosakari would need an uptick in order to avoid falling kadoban. Yokozuna Kobashi is likely to receive a raised eyebrow on senshuraku, but that's all. Sansho standings: Shukun-sho: Zannah, for being the only eligible player picking 6-0 Tokihayate. Kanto-sho: chishafuwaku and Bunbukuchagama with 57 wins apiece. Gino-sho: also Zannah, 13.99 points (e.g., 3 points apiece for Tokihayate and Akinoyama). Good luck on the home stretch!

    Superbanzuke Ranking for Nagoya 2023

The newest and latest edition of the Superbanzuke is now online. Unfortunately, we don't have a Nagoya ranking for Hoshitori Game, but I've come to get used to it. I used the Natsu Ranking data with a 20 percent demerit, as per usual. See how you and your friends and foes fare at http://99998271.com/sb/sb202307.html

Still no standings... The joy of having an automated game, and the frustration of not being the automation man.

    Superbanzuke Ranking for Nagoya 2023

For SB purposes, I had to trim the original picture that Joao sent me. First of all, the picture is inverted vertically. Second, over the graffiti the letters "CERVE" can be read, but there are likely to be more letters not in the picture. I guess the full word is CERVEJA. Now if only we would have some people on the forum who are knowledgeable about international beer brands...

    Juryo Game - Past results

Hi, actually there is a possibility, but it is very well hidden. For instance, here are the banzuke and results from Hatsu 2023 https://juryo.sumogames.de/statistics/BanzRslt.aspx?B=197 By changing the basho number B you can change to other results and banzuke.

    Natsu 2023 Superbanzuke Masters

Hiya and ho. With all games having their final standings published, it's about time to present to you the results of the Natsu 2023 Masters Series. Here is the direct permalink to the results, and this is the report: For a long time throughout this basho, it looked like a triple-digit performance. In the end, however, Susanoo won the Green Mawashi (his 8th overall) with "only" 73.20 points. The reigning World Champion won the yusho in Ozumo Bingo and in Sekitori Oracle. He also finished near the top in Tippspiel, Paper Oyakata, Sekitori-Toto, Sumo Game, and UDH.Gonzaburow won his second career shukun-sho for getting two yusho (RotoSumo and UDH).The gino-sho goes to TochiYESshin (first sansho ever). The American had excellent performances in pre-basho game (a shared yusho in Salarycap Sumo) as well as daily games (yusho in Sekitori-Toto).The kanto-sho goes to overall runner-up and gaming veteran, the legendary Kintamayama. With five scores among the Top 10 it's his second Fighting Spirit Prize (the first one came in 2010).Congratulations to all the winners! Also updated: the current standings of the World Championship. With half the gaming year already in the bag, three players are in triple-digits. Five-time World Champion Pandaazuma has a relatively small lead over current World Champion Susanoo and four-time World Champion Norizo. Former World Champion Joaoiyama is in 4th place, and almost-reigning almost-World Champion Oskanohana features in 5th place.

    Games Talk - Natsu 2023

I noticed that, too, and feel happy for you. With two Superbanzuke games missing, you might be in for jun-yusho in the Masters Series.
  8. Dear potential participant, Makushita Game is again ready for your participation. This time I am particularly delighted to announce that 18(?) years after its inception, the banzuke (hopefully to be uploaded soon by Doitsuyama) will actually feature a tiny Juryo divison for the first time! Hopes are up that you'll contribute to the slowest success story in sumogamedom. Details and stuff can as usually been found at https://makushita.sumogames.de/

Invitation for Makushita Game: Natsu 2023

Final standings: Oortael cruised to the Makushita Game yusho, keeping jun-yusho winner BariiHachiBenson at bay. Congrats to both! In the end, there was a huge difference in performance between the top players (9.31 win points average) and those below M4 (7.43 win point average). This means that the top players have to deduce 2 points from their win point column (plus rounding up) to determine their W/L record. In contrast, other players can take their win points (plus rounding up) to do the same exercise. That being said, the Ozeki pair of Ganzohnesushi and Asashosakari managed to stave off kadoban. The KK/MK lines run between Asashosakari/Itachiyama, and between Koorifuu/Golynohana, respectively. The sansho: The shukun-sho goes to Asapedroryu on fifth(!) tie-breaker against Oortael. Asapedroryu picked Kiryuko (7-0), Takahashi (6-1), Takerufuji (6-1), Omoto (6-1), and Mudoho (5-2). The kanto-sho easily goes to Oortael with strong 68 wins. BariiHachiBenson wins the gino-sho (16.18 points) for picking Kotokuzan (3.00), Daishomaru (3.00), and Otsuji (2.50), among others. Thank you for playing! I am really excited that we had so many new players, and I hope to see many of you in July. :)

Invitation for Makushita Game: Natsu 2023

Standings after Day 10: Wamahada was co-leader after Day 6, but after three abysmal days he finds himself in nowhere land. In contrast, Komusubi Itachi also was co-leader and still features near the top of the yusho arasoi in 2nd place, only to be outperformed by Sekiwake Oortael. Meanwhile, the upper echelons (down to M4) have better average records than the players ranked below M4. What continues, however, is the relatively poor performance by the very top players. Yokozuna Andoreasu is in KK territory, but all other active players ranked Yokozuna or Ozeki are still on course for a make-koshi. The KK/MK currently runs between Itachiyama and Asashosakari in the upper group, and between Takanorappa and Tetsuba in the lower group. Sansho standings: Shukun-sho: Kitanoyama (for picking 5-0 Shishi and 5-0 Daishomaru) Kanto-sho: Oortael (50 wins) Gino-sho: BariiHachiBenson (12.33 points; e.g. 2.5 points for Daishomaru, 2 points apiece for Kotokuzan, Otsuji, and Setonoumi)

    Superbanzuke Ranking for Natsu 2023

Sure, and this is much appreciated. I was just referring to Jejima‘s 0-0-15 score after what seems to be a single absence. I don‘t remember whether players have to ask for kosho in ISP, so that would explain the drop.

    Superbanzuke Ranking for Natsu 2023

You would have to ask Ganzohnesushi for that. I saw that you dropped from M9 to J6 in ISP, being denoted as kyujo for Haru.

Invitation for Makushita Game: Natsu 2023

Standings after Day 6: There are 39 active participants which sets a new record! Thanks for playing the game! After three rounds of bouts, Komusubi Itachi and M9 Wamahada lead the standings, actually with quite a leading margin over the rest of the field. It's interesting to note that the top players (Y-M4) are playing on exactly the same level so far as the players below M4, suggesting that there have been quite some surprises on the dohyo. This is also evident in the fact that only one player ranked Yokozuna or Ozeki (Y Andoreasu) is currently above the KK/MK line of the upper group. For the Ozeki duo of Asashosakari and Ganzohnesushi this would mean demotion to Sekiwake, but there is still plenty of time to improve. Sansho standings: Shukun-sho: Itachi (for picking Shishi, Takahashi, and Hitoshi all at 3-0) Kanto-sho: Wamahada (35 wins) Gino-sho: Zannah (7.30 points; e.g. 3 points for Yuma and 2 points for Chiyonokatsu)

    Games Bugs

Yes, it's a pity that Doitsuyama doesn't seem to find the time before any basho to upload games data. With regard to the Superbanzuke, I have no access to Hoshitori Game data, GTB data, and Juryo Game data (though I assume that Nantonoyama has sent the information), and after the usual 3-day grace period I will post an incomplete Superbanzuke somewhat soonish. Makushita Game is not Superbanzuke but also won't display any standings without Doitsuyama's intervention.

    Haru 2023 Superbanzuke Masters Series

I have just uploaded the results for the Haru Masters Series. Here is the corresponding "press release" After being one of the most competitive players over the last few years, Oskahanada finally managed to win his first ever Green Mawashi. With yushos in Norizo Cup, Odd Sumo, and Sekitori Oracle as well as a jun-yusho in UDH he amassed a whopping 71.50 points, keeping runner-up Norizo (58.03 points) at bay rather easily.Norizo won the shukun-sho for being a high-scoring runner-up, and also for a triple-yusho (Chaingang, Sumo Game, UDH). It's his sixth Outstanding Performance Prize already. Norizo also won the gino-sho with high performances in both daily games and pre-basho games. It's his eighth career Technique Prize, now tying the record with Susanoo.Pandaazuma won his twelfth career kanto-sho with Top 10 performances in nine different games.Congratulations to all the winners! See the results at this permalink. I have also updated the standings of the 2023 World Championship, and this reads like a Who is Who of sumo gaming. Five time World Champion Pandaazuma is back in the game, sporting a small leading margin over Vice World Champion Oskahanada and quadruple World Champion Norizo. The 2021 World Champion Joaoiyama also isn't too far behind. Exciting stuff!

    Haru 2023 Superbanzuke Masters Series

I've apparently forgotten to upload the results with the corresponding permalink. The file should be online now.
  18. You are cordially invited to that lovely little thing called Makushita Game. Goal of the game: predict how the Makushita division pans out, where rising stars and has-beens get together. We have a banzuke ready for the game, and I am looking forward to seeing many entries. Who knows, with some new participants we might even have to create a tiny Juryo division next basho! http://makushita.sumogames.de/

    Favorite Songs

Totally missed the posts about Honegger, by far my favorite classical composer. I first heard his Symphony No. 3 live, and it completely blew my mind. The third movement has the loudest and most cacophonic crescendo I ever heard in classical music of that time, and after that ultimate noise comes a piccole flute with a flickering melody that always brings me close to tears. Invitation for Makushita Game: Haru 2023

Results for the basho are in (though it might be that a lost entry by shin-deshi Tetsuba will be recovered which might lead to some alterations). Ozeki Oskanohana won the yusho and will have a tsunatori next basho. He managed to keep jun-yusho winners Itachiyama and Pepoetse at bay. For players down to M4 you can get your actual win/loss records by using the points total given in the standings and round down half-points. That being said, Ozeki Ganzohnesushi finished 7-8, thus being kadoban in his next basho. For players from M5 downward, you can add half a win point to your win point total and then round down half-points. Sansho: Shukun-sho: Bill (for picking Ryuo, Takahashi, and Dewanoryu) Kanto-sho: Itachiyama (64 wins) Gino-sho: Bill (22.67 points; e.g. 4 points for Miyagi and Chiyooga; 3.5 points for Ryuo). Thanks for playing!!

    Superbanzuke Ranking for Haru 2022

Hi there, the usual three-day grace period was applied for late comers to the banzuke publishers, but (again) that did not help. With Doitsuyama being absent and sorely missed, there is no banzuke for Hoshitori Game again. So I used the Hatsu ranking (minus a 20% demerit) to compute the latest edition of the Superbanzuke. See how you are standing at http://99998271.com/sb/sb202303.html

    Chat GPT

I once asked the predecessor of ChatGPT what Barack Obama would have to say about me. The result was hilarious as the bot made me the running director of UNHCR. That being said, ChatGPT riles me up to no end, and I might consider starting a research project on it. Mensplaining was 2018, but what we are seeing now ("Chatsplaining", you read it here first!) is sometimes hilarious, but can be downright dangerous. The mixture of confidence in its answers coupled with complete cluelessness on so many areas can have detrimental effects on society and should be addressed rather soon by platform developers, I'd say.

    Hatsu 2023 Superbanzuke Masters Series

Hiya! I have just uploaded the accumulated gaming results for Hatsu Basho in the newest latest edition of the Masters Series. It was close but successful. Although she misses out on many Superbanzuke games, Sakura won her first Green Mawashi, even after dropping out of the Top 10 in several games on senshuraku. A yusho in Chaingang as well as jun-yusho in ISP and RotoSumo did the trick for her.For Kaito it was close, but no cigar. With a second-place finish and two jun-yusho (Norizo Cup and Sekitori-Quad), he wins his third career shukun-sho. Moreover, the two jun-yusho were in different gaming categories, thus also netting him his first career gino-sho.As for the kanto-sho, several players were tied with six top 10 finishes. After some deliberation, the Fighting Spirit Prize goes to the best player who was not Kaito - and that was Oshirokita. As a Canadian, the veteran gamer seems to have a knack for the winter basho in January. Last year, he won the Green Mawashi, and this January it's his first ever sansho!Congratulations to all the winners! Lookee here!
  25. I cordially invite you to take part in Makushita Game. Other than in November when the World Championship reports kept me busy, I might even have the time and inclination to provide semi-regular updates on the proceedings. Entry form Hatsu Banzuke
